CONDITION MONITORING – FUEL AND LUBRICANTS

ANALYSIS

LUBRICANTS

The Condition Monitoring Division of Intertek Geotech

provides lubricant analysis to monitor the working

condition of fixed and mobile machinery. The primary

function of an oil analysis program is the early detection

of degradation, contamination and wear problems

which, if not checked, could otherwise lead to costly

damage, equipment failure and unsafe operation.

In summary, the benefits of a Condition Monitoring

program are;

• Reduced operation and repair costs

• Increased equipment availability

• Increased operational reliability

• Improved safety

Oil analysis programs have shown significant cost

benefits to participating companies, with condition

monitoring programs costing about 10% of the damage

incurred from detectable equipment failures.

Intertek Geotech’s oil condition laboratory is a NATA

accredited facility and offers a full suite of testing,

including oil characterisation, ferrography, wear

analysis and particle counting. The interpretation of

analytical data is provided routinely to clients.

SERVICES

• Full range of oil analysis for characterisation and

condition monitoring, including spectrometric

analysis by ICP and FT-IR

• Analytical Ferrography and Filterography (incl.

Photography)

• Direct Reading Ferrography

• Particle Counting and Sizing

• Analysis of Greases

• Microbial Contamination Testing of Diesel Fuel

• Coolant Analysis

• Interpretation and Evaluation of Results

• Complete oil monitoring programs, including

sampling schedules, sampling equipment,

summary reports and follow up of any actions.

TYPE OF EQUIPMENT

• Fixed plant – gas plants, mining

• Mobile equipment – transport businesses

• Power generation – power stations, turbines, etc.

• Transmissions, Hydraulics, Compressors, Final

Drives, Differentials, Engines.

FUELS – INDUSTRIAL CHEMISTRY

The Fuels – Industrial Chemistry Section of the

Condition Monitoring Division of Intertek Geotech

provides two main services to clients: Testing and

Consulting.

Testing includes the analysis and testing of liquid fuels

and materials as well as product control and

specification testing. Testing is performed for small

and large operators on either a casual or contract

basis.

Consulting utilises the diverse laboratory facilities and

expertise within the company to provide a problem-

solving service to clients.

Geotech has considerable experience in large

multidisciplinary projects where chemical analysis and

interpretation are necessary.

SERVICES

• Testing of all Types of Liquid Fuels and Crude

Oils

• Analysis of a Wide Range of Inorganic and

Organic Material

• Material Failure Analysis

• Corrosion Product Analysis

• Metal Analysis

• Analysis of Deposits, Sludges and Residues

• Material Testing for Insurance and Litigation

Purposes

• Specification Conformity Testing

• Aviation and Military Fuel Testing

• Fuel Shipment Quality Assurance

• SEM-EDX, XRD analysis

SPECIALTY CHEMICALS & FUEL

TREATMENTS

Geotech has manufactured the Gold Standard

Premium Products range of chemical formulations for

the treatment of fungal and bacterial growth in diesel

fuel for the past 20 years. This includes Geotech’s

most popular product, CLADOCIDE GOLD, which is

formulated as broad spectrum biocide for the

prevention of this contamination.

Several forms of micro-organisms can survive and

multiply in hydrocarbon products and fuels, growing in

fuel handling systems, storage tanks, fuel delivery

trucks, delivery lines and the fuel tanks of machines.

This causes problems such as fuel tank gauge

damage, injector and pump failures and filter blockage.
