ConductorsEstablished in the spring of 1994 by Dana Demant, Bill Morrisette, and Gene Slayter,
the Springfield Community Concert Band has been a rousing success. We have pre-
sented many free Concerts in the Parks in both Springfield and Eugene, performed at
Springfield Filbert Festival and Christmas Parade. We have held an annual Children’s
Concert in Springfield’s Library, and been the opening act for a Fourth of July concert
featuring “Riders in the Sky.”
As a true community band, anyone who plays an instrument is invited to join the
Springfield Community Concert Band. Our members range in age from 15 to over
70. Occupations of our members include teachers, retirees, stay-at-home moms, and local business owners. If you
are interested in more information about our band, please contact Dana Demant at (541) 345-7377.
Dana Demant, the founding director of the SCCB, has been a music teacher in the Springfield School District for
over 25 years. He is currently the band and strings teacher at Agnes Stewart Middle School--and loving it! Besides
directing the SCCB, he also conducts the Eugene Junior Orchestra. Dana has been happily married to Lauren
Lindstrom for 28 years and has two fabulous daughters, Jordan and Zoe—who are both hilarious.
Patrick Dixon has been teaching music for the Crow School District since the Fall
of 2000. He teaches all bands (including jazz), choir, and general music. Every other
year he teaches College Now Music Appreciation for upperclassmen. In the past he
has even taught middle and high school art.
Mr. Dixon is an Oregon native, and graduated from Redmond High School. He also has
degrees from the University of Oregon, University of North Texas, and Yale University.
Before he was a full time music teacher he worked as a professional performing musician,
playing bass trombone for both classical orchestras and jazz bands, as well as a soloist
and on a number of different recordings. He has also taught at the University of Oregon,
Oregon State University, and at the Oregon Festival of American Music.
Mr. Dixon is married to Elizabeth Hoffman, flute instructor for Lane Community College.
Mr. Dixon has many outside interests including cooking, writing, painting, drawing, and sculpting. His current
favorite book and movie (coincidentally) is the Lord of the Rings. His guilty pleasure is watching Z-Grade sci-fi,
horror, and zombie movies.
