Vision statement

The vision of the IeMRC is to be the UK’sinternationally recognised provider ofworld class electronics manufacturingresearch. It focuses on sustaining andgrowing high value manufacturing in theUK by delivering innovative andexploitable new technologies, highlyskilled people and strategic value to theelectronics industry.

“The benchmarking target for the IeMRC’s research portfolio is that all its projects be classed as Internationally Competitive with at least 33% classed as Internationally Leading across all sectors rising to 50% of the projects in sectors where the UK is traditionally strong”

• Establish a college for peer review• Centre‐level and project‐level audits

The research quality audit

• Proposals will be subject to international peer review/assist

• Applicants can respond to international peer review/assist

• Final reports are critical – they will all be subject to international peer review

• Visiting international review panel in year 7 and year 10 (with conference)

• Each IMRC has to deliver at least 10 economic impact case studies by year 7– Irrespective of size and maturity of the IMRC

• Projects can deliver more than one case study each

• We are examining best way to collate and present these case studies

2009 Calls

• Doctoral training awards– 3 offers made

• IeMRC phase 2 flagships– 20 outline proposals received

– 6 invited forward to submit full proposals

– Shall announce the winners before Christmas

• IeMRC 2nd Call for Proposals – Launch today!

2nd Call for Proposals

• Inviting outline proposals (simple Outline Proposal Form)– Submit by 3pm October 9th

– Shortlist published October 21st

– Full proposals due 3pm December 4th

– Awards to be made in January 2010– Research can commence March 1st 2010

2nd Call for Proposals

• Be mindful of selection criteria

• Be mindful of the Gateway section– Fit to call and IeMRC research themes

• Business case is critical

• IeMRC will fund 80% of FEC– Using EPSRC’s funding model

– Be mindful of inflating investigator time!

– Justification of Resources at stage 2 is critical

Future calls for proposals

• We expect another Doctoral Training Award competition in late Spring 2010– Depends on EPSRC’s DTA scheme development

• We expect a 3rd call for proposals late Spring/early Summer 2010
