Who is TechSoup?• TechSoup is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.• As of June 2010, TechSoup served more than

127,000 organizations, distributed more than 6.3 million technology donations, and enabled nonprofit recipients to save more than $1.8 billion in IT expenses in 33 countries around the world.

• The Microsoft Software Donation Program for U.S. nonprofits and public libraries is one of TechSoup's most popular donors.

• As of June 30, 2011, 103,511 organizations in the United States and U.S. territories had received donations with a fair market value of over US$1,643,000,000.

What is the Microsoft Donation Program with TechSoup?



Microsoft has made several updates to its donation program to make it easier for organizations to access the software donations they need, when they need them.

TWO YEAR CYCLE DATE•An organization's 1st donation request after July 27, 2011, initiates the beginning of a 2-year cycle. This 1st cycle then sets the organization’s reoccurring cycle schedule thereafter

NEW (AFTER JULY 27TH, 2011):LICENSE MINIMUMS•There is no minimum number of licenses required per donation request!

• Microsoft donations are available to many U.S. nonprofits with a 501(c)(3) designation and to public libraries.

• Some types of nonprofits are not eligible, such as educational institutions, political organizations, faith-based organizations, most healthcare organizations, and private libraries.

Eligibility



• If your organization is faith-based, but has a primary mission or program that is nonreligious (secular), you might be able to register at TechSoup with an organization type that is eligible for Microsoft donations.

• All donations may be used only to support your organization's nonreligious activities.

• Public libraries may request Microsoft donations through this program for public access computers only. Donated software is available only for use on public access computers or computers used directly in the management of the public access computers or the library's public access program.

Special Rules for Public Libraries



The following organization types have recently been made eligible to request Microsoft donations: Scientific research (diseases)

– Hunting or fishing club – Swimming or tennis club– Other sports club; Note: Boys Club, Little League, etc.– Training in sports – Amateur athletic association – Private Grantmaking Foundation– Private Independent Foundation– Private Operating Foundation

• Title Groups are a collection of different products that serve essentially the same purpose.

• You can request up to 50 licenses total from up to 10 different Title Groups in each of your organization’s 2 year recurring cycles

• There is no longer any limit to the number of times you can request Microsoft products through TechSoup, only limits to quantity.

What are Title Groups?



TITLES VS. TITLE GROUPSOLD (BEFORE JULY 27TH, 2011):TITLES•Organizations may request up to 6 titles with up to 50 licenses per title every 2-year cycle.

NEW (AFTER JULY 27TH, 2011):TITLE GROUPS•Organizations may request products from up to 10 of the Microsoft Title Groups, with up to 50 licenses per Title Group. This includes non-server applications, operating systems and license-only Title Groups (CALs).



• All versions of the same product are in the same Title Group, including:

– Year versions (such as 2010, 2011)– Language versions (such as English, Spanish)– Processor versions (such as 32-bit, 64-bit)– Platform versions (such as Windows, Mac)– Class versions (such as Standard, Enterprise)

Microsoft’s intent for their donation program has always been to allow organizations to request up to 50 licenses of a product, regardless of the version, edition or language.

Title groups are being implemented to more accurately adhere to Microsoft’s program guidelines. Most organizations will not be impacted by this change.

NEW (AFTER JULY 27TH, 2011):NUMBER OF REQUESTS•There is no limit to the number of times an organization can make a Microsoft donation request within the 2-year cycle as long as they have not used up their full donations allotment.

• Examples:– 5 Windows Server Licenses– 2 Windows Server Licenses and 2 Exchange Server

• Client Access Licenses (CALs) do not count as a server product. They are part of their own title group.

Software Assurance



• Receive complimentary upgrades for two years on most Microsoft software that you receive from TechSoup (there will be a one-time shipping cost for some products if you wish to receive media)

• Request backup CDs or replace missing discs• Access online product training• Obtain special licenses for using some

products on your home computer

With Software Assurance, You Can…



• You can still request free upgrades after your Software Assurance has expired, but you can upgrade only to versions that released before the expiration.

• Software Assurance upgrade requests must be obtained directly from Microsoft and do not count against your TechSoup limit of 10 title groups by 50 licenses.

• The Get Genuine Windows product for Small and

Medium Organizations offers the full Windows

operating systems:

– Windows 7 Professional 32-Bit – Get Genuine

• Get Genuine products are full operating systems, not

upgrades.

What are Get Genuine Solutions?



• Get Genuine products do NOT come with Software Assurance

• Orgs can get the Windows OS upgrade products through TechSoup when the next version is released

For nonprofits and public libraries that are out of compliance with software licensing due to software piracy or other licensing issues. GGS corrects scenarios in which an org has an existing PC with one of the following operating systems installed on it:

•Counterfeit, pirated, or otherwise illegal, unlicensed, or improperly licensed Windows operating system•Home Premium, Home Basic, or Starter editions of Windows 7 or Windows Vista•Home or Starter editions of Windows XP•Linux, FreeDOS, or other operating system•No operating system
