LONI ARRESE / PhD, CCC-SLP Loni Arrese, PhD, CCC-SLP is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology, College of Medicine and the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences at The Ohio State University. Dr. Arrese is the Director of the Cancer-Induced Dysphagia Laboratory where she and her team aim to improve patient care by establishing physiologically guided inter-ventions for dysphagia management as well as identify objective markers for recognizing indi-viduals at risk for long-term functional deficits following head and neck cancer treatment. Her specific research interests include assessment and identification of the underlying impaired governing mechanisms contributing to swal-lowing impairment in individuals with head and neck including the coordination between respiration and swallowing. Dr. Arrese has grant funding from Pelotonia to support this work.

LISA M. KOPF / PhD, CCC-SLP Lisa M. Kopf, PhD, CCC-SLP is an assis-tant professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at the University of Northern Iowa. She received her PhD from Michigan State University in CSD, as well as a Certificate of Serious Game Design. Dr. Kopf’s primary research interest is in the application of user-centered design and serious game design principles to the prevention and treatment of voice disorders.

JERRY K. HOEPNER / PhD, CCC-SLP Dr. Jerry Hoepner is an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire. He teaches coursework in adult neuro-genics, including Anatomy & Physiology, Neuroanatomy & Physiology, Aphasia, Acquired Cognitive Disorders, Dysphagia, and Counseling. He is a founding editor and editor-at-large of the Teaching and Learning in Communication Sciences and Disorders (TLCSD) journal. Jerry’s teaching research focuses on non-course based learning oppor-tunities (e.g., immersion learning, undergradu-ate research, course-embedded clinical expe-riences), pedagogy, and training CSD students as educators. This research has been published in a variety of journals, including: the Journal of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, Journal of Teaching and Learning with Technology, and Council of Undergraduate Research Quarterly. He also remains active in clinical research, including student and camper outcomes at the Chippewa Valley Aphasia Camp, social net-working applications for individuals with apha-sia, Video Self-Modeling interventions for indi-viduals with acquired cognitive disorders, and communication partner training. This research has been published in a variety of journals Brain Injury, Aphasiology, and the Journal of Interactional Research in Communication Sciences and Disorders. In addition, Dr. Hoepner has published several chapters in edited texts. Jerry remains active in community program-ming for individuals living with traumatic brain injuries and those living with aphasia, including being a co-founder of the Chippewa Valley Aphasia Group, Chippewa Valley Aphasia Camp, Blugold Brain Injury Group, and Mayo Mild Brain Injury Group.

JANE R. WEGNER / PhD, CCC-SLP Dr. Wegner is a Clinical Professor in the Intercampus Program in Communicative Disorders at the University of Kansas. Sheis the Director of the Schiefelbusch Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic and the Pardee Augmentative and Alternative Communi-cation Resource and Research Laboratory. Dr. Wegner’s clinical and research interests include augmentative and alternative commu-nication, general education curricular access for students with complex communication needs, and service delivery models for school speech-language services. She has directed personnel preparation projects funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs including the Communication and Autism Project; the Communication, Autism, and Technology Project; the Augmentative Communication in Schools Project, and the Augmentative Communication in the Schools-Kansas City Project. Dr. Wegner is an ASHA Fellow and serves on ASHA’s Speech-Language Advisory council.

EMILY DIEHM / PhD, CCC-SLP Emily Diehm, PhD, CCC-SLP is an Assis-tant Professor at the University of Toledo in Toledo, OH. She earned her BA in Speech and Hearing Science from The University of Iowa. She received her Master’s and PhD in Communication Science and Disorders from Florida State University. Dr. Diehm teaches graduate and undergraduate classes on oral and written language development, as well as developmental language disorders. Dr. Diehm’s clinical and research interests include inter-vention approaches for young children who are at-risk for later literacy disorders due to lan-guage impairment or low-socioeconomic back-grounds, as well as how to enhance educators’ abilities to make evidence-based decisions.

LAKEISHA JOHNSON / PhD, CCC-SLP Dr. Lakeisha Johnson is a research scientist at Georgia State University in the Urban Child Study Center. She is also a part-time instructor within the Communication Sciences and Disorders department and certified speech-language pathologist. Her research interests include language, literacy, and executive functioning development in African American children and other at-risk populations.

ANDREA BOERIGTER / MA, CCC-SLP Andrea Boerigter is a pediatric speech and language pathologist in Sioux Falls. Andrea received her BA and MA from the University of Northern Iowa. She spent the first six years of her career working at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City focusing on language devel-opment in children. Since her move to Sioux Falls, Andrea has been doing private practice with a focus on natural language development and feeding development. Andrea also owns Bloombox and writes TheSpeechMom.com. Andrea spends every spare minute she can with her husband and two naughty little boys, Hank and Gus.

RACHEL SMITH / BA, Nurtured Heart Trainer Rachel Smith is a graduate student at the University of Northern Iowa, majoring in Speech-Language Pathology. She is the mother to a four year-old daughter. Rachel first took the Nurtured Heart Approach training in Fall of 2016. After seeing results in both her relationship with her daughter, and her rela-tionships with clients in graduate school, she decided to become a trainer for the Nurtured Heart Approach. Rachel became a trainer for Nurtured Heart in July 2017 and hopes to train others how this approach can be useful in the field of Speech-Language Pathology.

RENE L. UTIANSKI / PhD, CCC-SLP Rene Utianski, PhD, CCC-SLP is a Re-search Associate and Assistant Professor of Neurology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She earned her BA in Psychology and Speech and Hearing Science from The George Washington University. She received her Master’s and PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Arizona State University. She completed a research post-doctoral fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Arizona studying EEG correlates of dementia in patients with Parkinson’s disease and a clinical post-doctoral fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, focusing on the differential diagnosis of acquired and degenerative speech and language disorders.

NICOLE ROGUS-PULIA / PhD, CCC-SLP Nicole Rogus-Pulia, PhD, CCC-SLP is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Surgery and Affiliate faculty in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Additionally, she is the Director of the Swallowing Research Program in the Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital as well as Director of the multi-site Veteran Health Administration’s (VHA) Swallow STRONG clinical program. The goal of Dr. Rogus-Pulia’s research program is to systematically identify and characterize factors underlying dysphagia in older adults and trans-late these findings into novel, evidence-based treatments for prevention of pneumonia onset. Her specific research interests include the effects of tongue strengthening on swallow function and health status, the impact of altered salivary production on swallowing, and the design of interventional studies for dyspha-gia in patients with dementia. Dr. Rogus-Pulia has grant funding from the VHA, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation, and the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) to support this work.

GLENN WEYBRIGHT / MS, CCC-SLP, BCS-F Glenn Weybright, MS, CCC-SLP, BCS-F, is a person who stutters, a private-practicing speech-language pathologist in Portland and an adjunct instructor, Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences at Portland State University. His degrees are from Portland State. He is a founding member of the Portland chapter of the National Stuttering Association.
