Declare to which version of the ENERGY STAR specifications the product complies

Provide link to the product or product family listing on the U.S EPA ENERGY STAR1 website (or international partners2,3)

OR

Provide analytical test data for the product based on the US ENERGY STAR program requirements

Declaration must be made on the EPEAT Registry at the time of registration.

Specific product or product family must be listed on the website for the latest ENERGY STAR program requirements in the US or international partners2,

The product should fall within the scope of the product types covered by the applicable US ENERGY STAR program requirements. The supporting data should indicate that: (1) the specified US ENERGY STAR Test Method was followed (these can be found in the Program Requirements documents); (2) the calculations were performed accurately; and (3) the product meets the required levels. Test reports must include Power Supply and Power Management and indicate conformance to these. Tests must be performed on the most energy-use intensive configuration in the product family.

The listing on the ENERGY STAR website or analytical tests must have dates prior to the product registration date on EPEAT or new version effective date (as appropriate).

Testing can be performed by non-EPA labs, but they must follow test methods and meet requirements of the current ENERGY STAR specification.

Due to the expiration of the EU-US ENERGY STAR Agreement in 2018, products that are EPEAT registered in the EU may demonstrate conformance to this criterion either by providing their listing to the US ENERGY STAR program which includes the EU country/region it is marketed or sold in, or by providing laboratory reports showing compliance with ENERGY STAR requirements using the country’s voltage specifications.

1 Energy Star specifications for imaging equipment can be found here: https://www.energystar.gov/products/office_equipment/imaging_equipment2ENERGY STAR qualified product listings are only available for products marketed in the United States or countries where Energy Star has an international partner. Products can appear as meeting the EPA ENERGY STAR Requirements in the following countries: US and Canada, European Union, Japan, and New Zealand. Note that many of these websites also include a list of countries in which the qualified product is marketed. This means that the product was tested in accordance with the conditions (voltage/current) for the listed country.

Declaration of compliance to ENERGY STAR version

1680.2 4.5.1.1

Manufacturer must declare the ENERGY STAR specification version to which the product complies. In the event of an ENERGY STAR update, EPEAT

will request manufacturers to update the EPEAT registry with the most current information.

After the implementation date of a new version of ENERGY

STAR , EPEAT requires manufacturers to archive products that no longer comply with the current

version.

Documentation of an LCA analysis or carbon footprint detailing the greenhouse gas emissions of the product.

Documentation must show that a complete cradle-to-grave assessment was conducted for the product, including from raw material extraction through final disposal or end use by the consumer. The documentation must indicate the standard and version number utilized to conduct the assessment (PAS 2050:2008, the GHG Protocol, ISO 14097, or ISO 14040/14044).

EcoLeaf environmental declarations published on the JEMAI website are an example of documentation that indicates conformance for this criterion for certain product categories1. It must be specific to the product. See Clarification 32 for more information.

KEITI Carbon Footprint Program certifications also indicate conformance. They must be product specific. See Clarification 41 for more information.

The assessment may be done for the specific product registered or for a “family” of products that includes the registered product.

1 Product categories that have been found conformant to 4.5.2.1 using JEMAI’s Ecoleaf program include: Electrophotographic Dry Process Photocopier, EP and IJ Printer, and Facsimile (multifunction devices should use the EP and IJ Printer product categories). See Clarification 32 for more details. Other product categories must be reviewed in order to meet this criterion using JEMAI’s EcoLeaf program.
