Most platform locations don’t have much down time to uti-lize operational personnel to conduct routine maintenance. This is where Shamrock’s Valve Greasing Program is ex-tremely beneficial to oil & gas companies operating in the Gulf of Mexico. Casing, Master and SSV/SDV Valves can become the most problematic, if not properly maintained.Grease is more than lubricant. It is an essential aid which protects internal parts from corrosives such as H2S and CO2, and also helps to seal the valve. Grease breaks down and needs to be replaced on a routine basis. When a valve loses grease it will not only begin to leak, but it becomes hard to operate, or worse will freeze in open or close position. This leads to downtime and halt in produc-tion to shut in the well, standby for a valve service tech, extensive field repairs and expensive valve replacements. An average O&G production flow rate produces three (3) barrels per hour. At $100/barrel that is approximately

$10,000/day in production loss. To put it in perspective, we should regularly change the oil in our car and check for leaks to avoid costly repairs. A car that runs without oil causes the engine to seize up resulting in thousands spent to replace; we should take equally pre-ventative measures to ensure our valves are fully opera-tional and have zero leakage.A typical grease maintenance job can cost approximately $1,500 to $2,000. It’s a routine service that does not inter-fere with operations and helps to prevent downtime, pro-duction loss, and saves operators avoidable, costly repairs. We recommend our customers contact our Valve and Wellhead Services department to schedule preventative maintenance for the most optimal valve performance.

Editor’s Note: If you have an idea for next issue’s “Around the Clover”, contact the newsletter editor, Keli Bonvillain.

AROUND THE CLOVER:VALVE AND WELLHEAD SERVICESMichelle Madere, Sales Administrator - Valve and Wellhead Services

At a recent Stone Energy crew change, Stone announced their development of a new preventative maintenance program. They have decided to begin implementa-tion of this program in their South Tam-balier and Pelto Fields due to the good condition of the equipment. The South Tambalier Field is maintained by Shamrock Management mechanics and electricians. Thus, our guys will have the opportunity to work along-

side Stone Energy’s new maintenance foreman to implement and tweak the program to then be integrated into the remainder of Stone’s properties. I’d like to recognize the Shamrock me-chanics and electricians for the great job they are doing in the South Tambalier field: Travis Brawner, Glenn Bearden, Raymond Moore and Gerald Broussard. Keep up the good work guys!

STONE ENERGY IMPLEMENTS MAINTENANCE PROGRAMJose Balderas, Mechanical Maintenance Foreman

Shamrock Management was recently selected by Apache Corporation as one of their main contract labor providers for mechanical maintenance. We were able to add several new members to the Shamrock Management family who will be providing mechani-cal maintenance support on several Apache properties. Shamrock had a huge amount of help from our current employees, who were already working

for Apache Corporation, with recruiting these new mechanics. On behalf of Shamrock Management, I’d like to thank all of you who helped us with the recruitment efforts. I believe many of these new mechanics came on-board because of the way you feel about Shamrock, your kind words and your hustle. Thank you for your time, effort and continued service and dedication to Shamrock.

APACHE RECRUITING EFFORTSChuck Hackett, Production Operations Manager

SEMS COMPLIANCE UPDATEKelly Hebert, HR/HSE ManagerAs you know, the impact of the Macondo incident and resulting oil spill in April of 2010 will be felt by our industry for years to come. One of the governmental ac-tions that followed that tragedy has not received a lot of attention, but it will have a huge impact on you as a contractor. I am referring to BOEMRE’s require-ment for Operators to have a Safety and Environmental Management System, or SEMS. Operators will need to have a SEMS up and running by November 15th of this year. As a part of SEMS, Operators will be required to verify that their contrac-tors have safety programs in place, have properly trained their personnel, and have the records to prove it. The Opera-tors must perform audits on their pro-grams and, if BOEMRE finds that they are not following their SEMS plans, they may face fines or potential shutdowns. At Shamrock we are committed to helping the Operators meet these new

requirements. We are working with Op-erators to develop common approaches to the SEMS requirements so that we do not have to train and retrain our employ-ees for each of our Operator clients. We are also updating our training curricu-lum, our SSQ database and our Train-ing Matrix to meet the SEMS rules. We stand ready to help all our Operators with implementing SEMS. The immediate attention Shamrock needs from all our employees is an updated resume with a complete work history for our records. Please send the updated resume to Ginnie Corbin via either fax at 985-868-5321 or via email at [email protected] you have any questions or need more information about SEMS, please contact Jamie Percle for assistance at 985-872-0505 or [email protected]. You can also find more information online by visiting BOEMRE’s website at http://www.boemre.gov/semp.

As flu season is approaching, it is important to educate yourself on the flu virus. Gathered below is information and recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s website at www.cdc.gov/flu. While the timing of the flu can be very unpredictable, flu activity can begin as early as October and continue to oc-cur as late as May. In order to prepare for flu season, the CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccine for everyone six (6) months of age and older.

A second vaccine available in the U.S. is the nasal-spray flu vaccine, which is approved for use in healthy people 2-49 years or age who are not pregnant. Good health habits may also help protect you against the flu. These good health habits include avoiding close contact with people who are sick, covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, washing your hands often, getting plenty of sleep, drinking plenty of fluids, eating nutri-tiously and staying physically fit.

The flu virus usually starts suddenly and may include a fever, headache, tired-ness, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose and body aches. However, having these systems does not always means that you have the flu. It is very difficult to distinguish the flu from other infections on the basis of symptoms alone. A doctor’s exam may be needed to tell whether you have de-veloped the flu or a complication of the flu. Antiviral drugs are available to treat the flu virus.
