OE Purim Announcement

One of the defining features of Purim is the importance of community. We come together to hear the Megillah, twice, and we send Shalach Manos all around town. Purim carnivals and seu-dot bring friends and families together, allowing us to celebrate the historic victory more deeply and to talk with each other about the Purim messages that enrich our lives. On this holiday of community, your shul community can use your help. We are planning to hold our annual Purim carnival, on Motzei Shabbat, March 11th. It is a highlight of our youth department calendar and a delight to all who attend. To make this event a strong success, we are asking our members to consider sponsoring this event. If you're willing to provide funds or gifts, please email the shul office at [email protected].

We would like to set up a meeting to hear women’s ideas. If you’re interested in getting involved, please let Susan Kollmar know when you are or are not available to attend a meeting. If you can’t attend a meeting but want to have some input, just send an email to [email protected].

We hope to see you there!

An Open Appeal from One of Our OE Member Families

We realize there are many requests for Tzedaka, all heart wrenching. However, the rules of Tzedaka are to first help your family, then help your community, then outside the commu-nity. Here is a campaign started by longtime members of our community, who are presently struggling with the serious issue of having a family mem-ber trying to recover in rehab.

They need to raise about $6,000 a month and rehab can take about a year. https://thechesedfund.com/cause/please-help-us-afford-rehab-to-save-our-son. Please open up your hearts and help this local family keep their son in rehab. They have been generous in the past in supporting our community and never thought they would need to ask for them-selves. (Please note: Rabbi Kaufman and Rabbi Kaminetzky have reviewed this issue and the great need of the family and encourage all to help in this extremely worthy and life saving ef-fort.) If you wish to make out a check instead of contributing online, please make it out to Congregation Ohav Emeth and in the memo write Rabbi's Charity Fund. On a separate note (NOT IN MEMO) write that it is for the Rehab Campaign.

Tomchei Shabbos Pesach Campaign With Pesach less than 2 months away, there are families in our community for whom the thought of purchasing even the basic necessities is a crushing finan-cial burden. Tomchei Shabbos helps ease this burden, and provide peace of mind, by ensuring that these families’ basic needs are met. But all of this comes at a cost. Pesach is by far our largest and costliest operation of the year. In the weeks leading up to Pesach, over 250 boxes of food are pur-chased, packed and distributed to needy families in the Highland Park, Edison and East Brunswick communi-ties. Families are counting on this food but to make it happen requires your support. Help give the gift of Pesach to families in need. Donations can be made through our website at www.tomcheimc.org. Checks can also be sent to Tomchei Shabbos of Middle-sex County, c/o Cong. Ohr Torah, 48 Edgemount Road, Edison, NJ 08817. Thank you for your support.

This year I will be partici-pating in the Jerusalem Marathon run-ning for Team Shalva. Shalva is an or-ganization which is the Israel Associa-tion for the Care and Inclusion of Per-sons with Disabilities and is dedicated to providing transformative care for individuals with disabilities, empower-ing their families and promoting social inclusion. Non-denominational and free of charge, Shalva’s programs pro-vide an all-encompassing range of ser-vices for hundreds of individuals from infancy to adulthood. My goal for Team Shalva is to raise a grand total of $2,800 by March 1st. Checks can be made out to American friends of Shalva, with my name Justin Krul, in the memo, and given to me so I can send them in. You can mail them to me at 167 Washington Avenue, Edison N.J 08817. Or you can donate online at http://www.run4shalva.org/my/arikrul99. Shalva is also a 501c3 non-profit organization.
