Dear Colleagues,
The Croatian Society of Civil Engineers organizes now already the 7th Congress of
Croatian Builders which will be held on 17-18 October 2016 at the Hotel Croatia
in Cavtat. This traditional conference, held once every four years, will bring together
builders from the country and abroad, namely those from the region, and its purpose
is to analyse present developments in construction industry and to present signifi-
cant projects and interesting engineering solutions and innovations from all fields of
civil engineering. The 2016 Congress will be the right place for reviewing current
situation in civil engineering and its role in the development of Croatian economy,
for discussing construction industry as an instigator of development, and the way
this industry has so far been competing on domestic and international markets and,
finally, for critical analysis of past and future achievements. Other topical issues
related to civil engineering will also be discussed, in particular the fulfilment of condi-
tions for work in the European Union, and investments from EU funds. This fact is
the reason for selecting the basic thematic name of the 2016 Congress: EU AND
CROATIAN CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY. This title was selected to place a particular
emphasis on the fact that construction is of prime significance for Croatian construc-

As this Congress is a traditional gathering and a meeting place for all Croatian builders, it will present a perfect opportunity for
discussing all issues relating to development of Croatian construction industry and its influence on the overall progress in Croatia. In
addition to common themes, a particular attention will also be paid to the following specific themes of the Congress:
� Economic indicators of situation in construction industry over the past 4 years
� Investments / development projects that are to generate new growth in construction sector
EU funds and public (state) investments
Private investment incentives
� Legislation – restriction or incentive for an efficient preparation and implementation of investments in Croatia
� Competitive performance of Croatian builders in the EU and on worldwide markets
It is expected that more than 800 participants will take part in the work of the Congress. Thus, in addition to civil engineers and
architects, representatives from other branches will also be there, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, geodetic
engineers, etc. In addition to presentation of interesting papers, several highly interesting round tables will be organised in the
scope of common themes selected for this year’s congress. Proposals for organisation of round tables related to other relevant
themes are more than welcome and will be readily considered.
The Congress of Croatian Builders is an excellent opportunity for all participants to take an active part in the work of the congress, to
reunite with old friends, to meet new ones, and to exchange useful information and ideas. The 2016 Congress is also an opportunity
for companies related to construction to present themselves and to reveal to participants their activity, products and business potential.
Although construction industry is currently affected by the crisis, we are confident that you will come to the 2016 Congress, which will
be a real opportunity to increase awareness of the significance the construction industry has for the development of Croatian economy.

tion industry and for Croatian society as a whole and that, consequently, development projects should be put in place and initiated so
as to spur new growth in this significant industry. Such capital projects are nowadays increasingly difficult to realise without EU funds.

Invitation to participate
Authors are invited to send their abstracts (250 to 300 words) by
15 April 2016 using the abstract sending form available at the
Congress web pages. The authors will be advised about accept-
ance of their abstracts by e-mail not later than on 10 May 2016,
when they will be invited to send the entire papers, using the
Paper Template. The length of the papers must not exceed 8
pages of text (including figures, diagrams, and tables), and
the papers must be submitted by 30 June 2016 at the latest.
Papers will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee members.
The authors will be notified about acceptance of their papers no
later than on 30 July 2016.
Application for participation in 2016 Congress
Authors wishing to participate in the 2016 Congress of Croatian
Builders may submit their applications electronically (ONLINE
application) using the web page http://sabor.hsgi.org, or by
sending the filled-in form to the fax No. +385 1 4832 330 (agency:
Perfect-Meetings.hr) or +385 1 4872 526 (HSGI), or simply
by sending an e-mail message to [email protected]

use of ONLINE application is recommended.
Publication of papers
Authors are kindly asked to submit papers corresponding to the
2016 Congress themes to the e-mail address [email protected]
not later than on 30 June 2016. The decision on approval of
papers and their publication in the 2016 Congress Proceedings
will be made after papers have been reviewed by the 2016
Congress Scientific Committee. All accepted papers for which registration fee has been paid shall be fully published in the Congress Proceedings, in both print and digital (CD) formats.

Venue of 2016 Congress
The 2016 Congress of Croatian Builders will be held at
the Hotel Croatia in Cavtat. It is very rare to come across
a town like Cavtat that offers to its visitors so much in such a
restricted setting. Natural beauties, rich cultural and historical
heritage, and other tourist attractions, have been brought into
full harmony with the needs of present day vacationers, which
all make this town one of the most attractive destinations on
the Adriatic. During the Dubrovnik Republic, Cavtat used to be
a significant port, business and administrative centre of the
Republic, second only to Dubrovnik. Cavtat is also a birthplace
of Vlaho Bukovac, one of the best known Croatian painters.
Booking accommodation
Participants in the 2016 Congress will be offered privileged
accommodation at the Hotel Croatia and Hotel Supetar in Cavtat.
Daily accommodation rates per person, breakfast included, as
presented in the table, apply one day before and one day after
the 2016 Congress. To gain right to privileged accommodation
rates when booking accommodation through the Hotel Croatia
on-line system, participants are kindly asked to use the access

The registration fee for participation in the 2016 Congress of
Croatian Builders amounts to EUR 220 (until 15 September)
or EUR 270 (after 15 September) and will be paid via pro
forma invoice.
