CCUMC: Pastor Newsletter Article for January 2016
~ Work ~
“In the beginning God created…” What would we know about God if all we knew were these first five words? We would know that there is a God. We would also know that He existed before there was a beginning, AND…we would know that God works. Work is intrinsic to God; it is a part of His very being. God cannot help but to work, and God LOVES HIS JOB!!! As the Creation narrative continues, we learn that God has created people in His image. If work is intrinsic to God and we are made in His image, what does that say about our relationship with work? God has designed us to work and to love the work we do. However, very rarely do we come into contact with someone who loves his or her work. In fact, most of us can easily identify aspects of our job that we do not like (and/or downright hate). Why is this? If we were created to work, then why do we so often loathe our jobs? Starting January 10, 2016 we will consider our work – our jobs – and how God has made it possible for us to find both purpose and joy in the work that we do. I look forward to sharing God’s Word with you on this often overlooked topic as we begin the 2016 calendar year. May you discover (or be reminded) that the work you do at your job is vital in the Kingdom of God – just as each of you are a vital part of God’s eternal heartbeat. In Christ’s Service, Pastor Randy

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ!
Especially during this season, I am reminded
we are a people filled with hope, peace and joy—
made alive in Christ by the power of the Holy
Spirit! In this regard, we are also the salt and light
of the world. Each one of us is called to carry the
“lamp of truth” into a world of darkness. Jesus
himself tells us, “You are the light of the world. A
city on a hill cannot be hidden” (Matt. 5:14). May
we let our lights shine brightly, especially during
this Christmas Season!
Advent and Christmas are special occasions to
celebrate Jesus! In this light, my earnest prayer
and desire for the Church at this time of year is
that we are Christ-centered. In addition, I pray we
do not lose our joy! As we are all well aware, The
Christmas Holiday Season can be a time of hustle
and bustle, hurriedness and clamor, or it can be a
time of love, joy, hope and peace. May God help
us not to miss it! May the Lord fill us with peace
and joy, as we focus upon the true meaning of this
holiday season: “But the angel said to them, ‘Do
not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy
that will be for all the people. Today in the town
of David a Savior has been born to you; he is
Christ the Lord’” (Luke 2:10,11).
“Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
In the love and grace of Jesus Christ,
Daniel W. Eyster, M.Div.

What’s New With Youth?
December was a very busy month for the youth. We finished our look at some of the people in the
Old Testament. We will be revisiting the Old Testament again soon as there is more to study! Dec. 5th we at-
tended a Walk Through Bethlehem in Herndon. This is an awesome live nativity. The youth had an oppor-
tunity to see the nativity story come to life and experience a market in Bethlehem. It was a wonderful night
and they all had a great time. On Dec 13th some of our youth and their families joined the Tweeners and went
caroling. It is such an awesome way to spread the joy of the holiday season. On the 9th we had our Christmas
celebration in Youth. This is always a fun night. We played games, acted out the Nativity story, ate some
Christmas treats and took a look back at our year with some photos. On the 20th we will join our church fami-
ly for the Christmas Family carry-in. This is sure to be a great meal and fellowship time with our church fam-
ily.
In the New Year Youth will be back Jan 6th and we will hopefully be slowing things down a bit. In
Jan we will be firming up plans to attend Winter Jam in State College on Jan. 8th. Winter Jam is a Christian
Concert with a variety of artists the cost is $10. There are no tickets it is first come first serve. On January
31st a small group will be heading to Harrisburg for a student leadership event sponsored by the Young Peo-
ple’s Ministry Council. If you are interested in attending please let me know. We will also be selling hoagies
in January for Super bowl Sunday. The sign up sheet will be on the office window in January.
We are also in the process of planning a retreat for the youth at Wesley Forest for the spring of 2016.
We are looking at a weekend in mid to late April. Hopefully I will have more details for you after Christmas.
The end of December can be a very busy time for everyone. So while you’re decorating, making
Christmas cookies and wrapping gifts I hope you take a moment to appreciate the best gift ever. The best
Christmas gift ever was the first one given- Jesus Christ.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a Blessed New Year!
“…the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the peo-
ple. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.” ~Luke 8:10-11
