3.Foundation:"TheWhere"inDHIS2- OrgUnitsLearningObjective: RepresentorganizationalstructureinDHIS2.OrganizeOrgUnits intoGroupsandGroupGetstosupportdataanalysisandreporting.
Background:Organizationsdeliverservices,andcollectdataontheirusageanddelivery,inspecificgeographicallocations.Thegeographicallocationwheredataiscollected,orassociatedwith,isrepresentedasOrganizationalUnits(oftenreferredtoas"OrgUnits")withinDHIS2.SomeexamplesofOrgUnits includeacommunityfacility,alibrarychapter,andanadministrativeunitsuchasahealthdistrictthatoverseesmanylocalfacilities.
OrganizationalUnitsarelocatedwithinlevelsofanadministrativehierarchy(sometimesknownasanorganizationaltree).Typical levelsofanationalorganizationare:national,province,district,andfacility.Allunitsofanorganizationshouldbeincludedinthe hierarchy.
Oftenwithinanorganization,therearemultiplehierarchytypes.WhilethemainhierarchytypeshouldbereflectedintheOrgUnit structure,alternativetypesofhierarchiescanbeconfiguredthroughcreatingandassigningOrgUnits toGroupsandGroupSets.Forinstance,onemightbeinterestedinanalyzingdatabythetypeofownership(whetherthefacilityispubliclyorprivatelyowned),orthesizeofthefacility(small, large).SuchanalysisisfacilitatedbyassigningfacilitiestoOrgUnitGroups(small,large),withinthesizeGroupSet.
