CASE STUDY

Gerrity’s Supermarkets Chooses Keystone for LED Lighting Upgrade

Challenge: Gerrity’s Supermarkets is a well-known chain of grocery stores based in Scranton, PA. This family-owned business was established in 1895 when incandescent lighting was relatively new, energy was both cheap and abundant, and no one had ever heard of greenhouse gas. Fast- forward 120 years, and the single Gerrity’s meat shop has expanded to a 9-store operation. With ever-increasing energy costs, Gerrity’s was looking for ways to reduce both their electric bill and their carbon footprint.

Store lighting was the starting point in Gerrity’s goal to consume less energy. Richards Energy of Manheim, PA coordinated the energy study and utility rebates that were needed to get the ball rolling. Richards also provided the installation crew, disposal and recycling of the old fluorescent lamps, and overall project management.

Products Used: 5,000 Keystone DirectDrive T8 LED tubes

The Solution from Keystone: Richards Energy selected Keystone’s DirectDrive T8 LED tubes for the Gerrity’s retrofit. Keystone’s Direct Drive technology bypasses the ballast and instead uses line voltage connected directly to the lamp sockets for maximum energy efficiency. No external ballast or driver is needed.

Result: Gerrity’s is reporting a significantly brighter store environment, and at the same time, 40% energy savings. Together, Gerrity’s stores will consume so much less energy each year that it is the equivalent of removing 74 cars from the road or 37 homes from the electric grid.

According to Joe Fasula, Vice President and co-owner of Gerrity’s, “At Gerrity’s, our family and staff are very pleased about the opportunity to lower our energy consumption. Supermarkets use a great deal of energy to keep product fresh and appealing: it is always exciting when we identify ways to conserve electricity and still maintain a great experience for the customer.”

FEATURED PRODUCTS

MAKING CONNECTIONS

We hope to see you at one of these trade shows!

SmartDrive High Bay LED Replacement Lamps

Standard HID LED lamps just don’t work in most 480V high bay settings. Adding 480-277V Step-Down transformers is expensive, labor intensive, and challenging due to space restrictions in the fixture.

Our SmartDrive HID replacement lamp is the ideal solution. It’s easy to install. Just plug and play with the existing metal halide ballast, and no step-down transformer is needed.

When you install Keystone SmartDrive HID LEDs with Keystone ballasts, we extend the ballast warranty by 3 years. You benefit from a 5 year total system warranty. That’s Light Made Easy!

Go Directly to Market with Class P LED Drivers

As an innovative leader in LED driver development, Keystone Technologies introduces our new Class P UL LED Driver program. The Class P program allows luminaire manufacturers to source alternate LED drivers without the need to retest for UL certification. Since Class P drivers already comply with safety standards, manufacturers are able to contain costs, expedite product development, and get new products into the marketplace quickly.

AROUND THE OFFICE

GIVING BACK

Cornhole TournamentCornhole is a bean bag toss style game often found at tailgating, family outings, and now at Keystone! Almost our entire staff participated in our first Keystone Cornhole Tournament. We got to see plenty of talented employees play some great matches along the way. In a very tight final game, the team of Dominic Wonokay (Engineer) and Josh Insogna (Distributor Sales Regional Manager), bested Josh Brown (VP of Distributor Sales) and Bryan Beck (Inventory Planning Associate). Now we’re waiting for spring so we can take the cornhole boards and bags back outside, and practice for the next challenge.

Keystone Supports Ronald McDonald House

Recently, Keystone had the opportunity to show support for the Ronald McDonald House of Wilmington, DE. Ronald McDonald House provides a safe, affordable “home away from home” to families of seriously or chronically ill or injured children who are being treated at nearby hospitals.

The employees at Keystone stepped right up, as did the company, to support this meaningful and worthy cause. We were very proud to present Ronald McDonald House with a significant financial contribution as well as generous donations of food and toys, and to be a part of this House that Love Built.

Brian Bunn Named Employee of the YearBrian Bunn, a Team Leader in the warehouse and a relatively recent addition to the Keystone staff, was the recipient of the 2016 Keystone Award. Brian was recognized for his positive, can-do attitude and for his dedication to providing excellent customer service. He consistently goes above and beyond, and is a great role model for others. Congratulations to Brian!

Terry Carpenter, Employee Services Manager, and her grandson Colin, present Keystone donations to Ronald McDonald House.

Standard Lighting DirectDrive HiCRI

PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT

Keystone Technologies1390 Welsh RoadNorth Wales, PA 19454

Choose Keystone DirectDrive HiCRI for Brighter Brights and Whiter Whites

Standard tubes without a high color rendering index produce adequate light, but sub-par colors. Colors appear inaccurate, drab and not nearly as appealing as they could, and should, look.

Keystone DirectDrive HiCRI tubes produce brighter, truer colors, especially reds and whites. See colors as they are meant to be seen.
