3rd Annual “Boots, Badges & Bandages” Heroes Blood Drive Campaign Underway!MKBC’s third annual “Boots, Badges & Bandages” Heroes Blood Drive competition between firefighters, law enforcement and emergency medical service personnel kicked off on Memorial Day, May 30, and runs through Labor Day, September 5 .

“Blood donations typically decline in the summer months, due in large part to our regional high schools and colleges being on summer break,” says Sean Tinney, Director of Marketing and Business Development . “This, combined with family vaca-tions, seasonal illnesses and an increase in accidents leads to a decline in the available blood supply .”

“We still need to collect approximately 450 units per day, 365 days per year, to meet the trans-fusion needs of our regional hospitals,” Mr . Tinney continues . “The Boots vs Badges vs Bandages competition is a great way for the Blood Center to partner with our local heroes, and to thank them for the leadership they demonstrate every day in our community,”

The public is invited to support the friendly competition by donating in honor of their favorite hero . Each organization has partnered with the blood center to recruit donors and raise awareness of the importance of blood donation . Individuals can donate at any MKBC Donor Center or commu-nity Blood Drive between May 30 and September 5, and have their donation go towards their favorite first responder . When individuals arrive for their donation they can either state the group or sponsor code of the heroes they would most like to support: Fire (Boots) Sponsor Code 7417 – Police (Badges) Sponsor Code 7416 – EMS (Bandages) Sponsor Code 7418 .

To schedule an appointment at any MKBC donor center or blood drive, call 800-B-A-DONOR or visit the Blood Center’s website at GIVEaPINT .org ●

Someone SpecialBest wishes to Chris Jacobson who was recently recognized for his out-standing volunteer efforts!

CHRIS joined MKBC as a Canteen Attendant in 2011. Since that time, he has accumulated more than 225 hours of volunteer service, while still working a full-time job. An active blood donor as well, Chris has been donating red cells and platelets since 1998, and has accumulated more than 18 gallons to date. He says he enjoys having the opportunity to give his time and service to help others in need, and also getting to meet old friends and new faces each month. He also volun-teers with his Church, and in the United Way Day of Caring.

On behalf of the residents of our local communities, who have ultimately benefited from their dedication we thank Chris for his volunteerism! ●

Student Volunteer Scholarship PresentedCongratulations to Christine Carlough of the Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter School, who was recently announced as the recipient of the 2016 Ralph (Bill) & Jacqueline Younger Student Volunteer Scholarship Award.

This award is named in honor of Bill & Jackie Younger, two of MKBC’s most dedicated volunteers. It is presented annually in recognition for the outstanding student volunteer participation at Miller-Keystone Blood Center by a graduating high school senior.
