We welcome new members - drop us a line using the email address opposite, or come along to a meeting if you’re interested.
We meet on the last Wednesday of every month except December, at the Johnsonville Community Centre Trust Room, upstairs on Moorefield Road, Johnsonville. Meetings start at 7.30pm and finish around 9.30pm.

RNZAF 80th anniversary tributeBring your favourite RNZAF models to the February meeting in tribute to the Air Force’s 80th anniversary.
As well as the models on display, we’ll be running a competition judged by popular vote among the entrants, and there will be prizes to be won. Any RNZAF models dating from the formation in 1937 are eligible, and it doesn’t matter if you’ve entered them or placed in previous club or National events. They do have to be your own work though!

Annual General MeetingIt’s that time of year again - our Annual General Meeting is coming up in March and you can help us out in a few different ways.
• Come along to the AGM on March 29• Consider standing for the committee• Support those people who do standThe AGM is a part of the normal March meeting and doesn’t usually take long - we’ll still have Show & Tell as normal.
Officers wantedPeter and Will are stepping down at the AGM, so we’re looking for a new President and Editor. Please consider offering your time and speak to Peter, Will or someone else on the committee to find out more about what the roles entail.
Being on the committee is a great opportunity to support the club, learn new skills, and steer things in the direction you think they should go. With one committee meeting a month it needn’t take too much of your time either.
Notices of Motion
1) Reduction in the number of committee members clauseDue to the reduced membership numbers, it is proposed to reduce the required Committee Member numbers from “at least 4” to “at least 2”, as follows :
7 (a) The Officers of the Society will be as follows:
• President• Secretary• Treasurer• Editor• Committee Members – at least 2
2) Filling vacancies between AGMs clauseA new clause is proposed to be added, to remove the need to fill positions via a Special General Meeting when a President, Secretary, Treasurer or Editor leave mid year.
7 (e) If the position of any Officer member becomes vacant between Annual General Meetings that vacancy shall be filled by the remaining Officers and a Special General Meeting to fill the vacancy is not required.
3) Amending subscriptions clause (payments by cheque)Finance section 14 (c) is proposed to be modified as follows to remove the requirement to pay by cheque - a somewhat outdated payment method these days.
14 (c) All payments will be passed for payment by the Committee. All payments shall be signed off for payment by any two of the President, Treasurer or Secretary.

New club Venue
When? All meetings for 2017 will be at the new location.
Where? We are now using the Trust Room at the Johnsonville Community Centre, 3 Frankmore Avenue, Johnsonville.
How do I get there? Exit SH1 north- or south-bound at Johnsonville and once you get to the main roundabout turn down Moorefield Road. The Community Centre will be on your right, and you can get to the Trust Room from the Moorefield Road entrance.
Car parking? Parking is available around the Community Centre building, on Frankmoore Avenue and Moorefield Road. Additional parking can be found across Moorefield Road by Johnsonville railway station and in the Mall car-park.
Room location? Enter the Community hall from the Southern Entrance on Moorefield Road, then take the stairs up to the Trust Room. There’s also a lift available.
Facilities? There will be tables and chairs, and we will be able to provide the usual tea and coffee.
Other questions?We’ve booked the Trust Room through to the end of 2017. That will give us a fair chance to get the new location to work for everyone. If it doesn’t then the committee will look at other options.

Shapeways is a 3D printing firm that will print a CAD file on your behalf, and there is a plethora of vendors already making use of their service. I have recently ordered some detail sets from this establishment and I’m very impressed with them. The parts arrived in a timely manner (even before the initial estimated printing date!) and were packed securely to avoid breakage.
I ordered:
• 1/35 Sherman periscope protector set (50 per pack)• Browning .50 pedestals/cradles/ammo box holders (with 4 pedestals and 3 each of the early and late ammo box holders -
scratchbuilding 2 more pedestals and cradles will enable all 6 to be used)• Space:1999 Eagle thruster detail setCost for all 3 sets was just under $80, so calculating that out it comes to quite a reasonable sum per item – and remember, this is ‘Mr Stingy’ speaking here! All were printed in something called ‘Frosted Ultra Detail’ and it lives up to its name. The material used is, I understand, set under a UV light so leaving them exposed to sunlight will overcook them and make them brittle. As a result you should leave them in the box or paint them as soon as you get them.
There are a number of sets available for Tigers and Panthers, and quite a few types of the Browning .50 itself - more than you are likely to need, but the choice is nice. There are many more items – last count I noted was in the mid-thousands, so be aware you may lose a few hours perusing the website!
Will this mean people will stop buying spare kits for parts? Probably not, though it does avoid entirely the problem of what to do with the kit parts that are unusable and cluttering up the place.

The February 11 session went well with a variety of holiday projects well underway, some of which are planned to be ready for our end our year club comps. Nothing like planning ahead for success. Selecting and research on the BSK kits began and we are looking forward to seeing some great models come 1 July – Judgement Day.
BSK (Build the Same Kit) for 2017 is ready to launch with:

King Tiger• Remove and clean up the individual track links first and carefully store the left and right
hand links in separate zip plastic bags. (The club has a limited amount of spare track links which can be used.)

• Decide on whether your model will be using Zimmerit anti-magnetic paste or not. If required see Ray about a special how-to do this session – look at YouTube - and ask Ray about after-market suppliers for Zimmerit.
• Read the building instructions carefully and test fit everything before you glue it.• Follow the instructions and don’t glue the track links together until you have watched the you tube clips or had a demo from
the helpers (Ray or Ewan).• Ensure your build is completed by the end of the April school holidays.• For painting remember, the more complicated the paint scheme, the longer it will take.
Mirage III• Be careful with the glass cockpits, clean them carefully and take time to mask off sections for painting• The build is straightforward but there is filling required for underneath the wings when fitting the wings to the fuselage (see
Tish Glasson for tips on this).• Decide on your paint scheme and if you are building the C version and you want to use the silver finish option wait for the
guest modeler on 13 May to help you with the paint job.• If you are planning a paint scheme other than Israeli or French check with Ray for decal options for the paint schemes of any
other air forces who used these aircraft.• Take your time in building even if it is a kit with few parts.

Modelcrafts and Hobbies is moving!Modelcrafts and Hobbies is moving to a new site in the basement of 1 Willis Street (also known as the State Insurance Building) next to the JB Hi-Fi games department. They will be closing to move at the end of the day on Friday 3 March, and aim to be open again in their new location on Tuesday 7 March.
The Apex Hobbies (Hasegawa) stock is not making the move with them so if you want to get hold of any of that make sure to pop in before the move.
