Eat and Drink but waste not by

Extravagance

Page 2: Conserving food

“And waste not by extravagance. Verily, He likes

not Al-Musrifûn (those who waste by extravagance)” (Al-Quran

6:141)

“But spend not wastefully (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift. Verily, the spendthrifts are brothers of the Shayaateen (devils), and the Shaytaan (Devil‑Satan) is ever ungrateful to his Lord” [Al-Quran’ 17:26-27]

Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) commanded us to wipe the dish because we do not know in what portion of our food the blessing lies. [Sahih Muslim 5049]

“So, by your Lord (O Muhammad SAW), We shall certainly call all of them to account.” (Al-Quran 15:92)

HOW WILL WE ACCOUNT FOR THIS?

Page 7: Conserving food

The Prophet (peace be upon him) never criticized any food (he was invited to) but he used to eat if he liked the food, and leave it if he disliked it. [Al Bukhari 320]

“…eat and drink but waste not by extravagance, certainly He (Allâh) likes not Al-Musrifûn (those who waste by extravagance).” (Al-Quran 7:31)

The Prophet (SAW) has said that the son of Adam does not fill any vessel worse than his stomach…

..If he must fill it, then 1/3 for his food, 1/3 for his drink, and 1/3 for air. [At-Trimidhi 2380]

The one who eats his fill the most, in this world, will be hungry for the longest time on the Day of Resurrection. [At-Tirmidhi 2015 ]

Prophet (SAW) said "The food for two persons is sufficient for three, and the food of three persons is sufficient for four persons.“ [ Al Bukhari 304]

A Poem

‘THE MORSEL THAT GOT LEFT BEHIND’

To get it there how much effort it takesThe unconsumed food, be it meat, fruit or breadNothing short of amazing, the path it has tread

Ever thought of the morsel that got left on our plates

Page 13: Conserving food

Let's take the bread, so easy to throwBut the wheat it comes from, took months to grow.

The soil was tilled, the weeds taken outFertilizer and nutrients were placed in the ground

Page 14: Conserving food

Once the seeds were planted, it was important to checkThat the plants were free from disease and insects

Many months later came harvest timeWhen the wheat heads 'nodded' then came cutting time

Page 15: Conserving food

Then came the shaking out of the headsThe kernel was separated from all of the rest

Once the removal of impurities was doneThe wheat was broken down, so that separation could be done

Page 16: Conserving food

From coarse particles to flour also took timeIt was again a long process to bleach and refine

Page 17: Conserving food

From the mill to the markets was no short roadFrom there, to the factory that bakes bread and rolls

Page 18: Conserving food

It's a lot of hard work, all down the lineNot to mention the money and all of that time

Page 19: Conserving food

So let's think again when we're tempted to leaveThat morsel of food - what a waste it would be!

Be it veggies, fruit, meat, how it got to your plateIt's a similar road like that bread had to take

Page 20: Conserving food

It's such a shame that others somewhereAre starving to death, while we don't care

Page 21: Conserving food

So you and I, let's make a pactLeaving food on our plates -

No More Of That.
