Students share faith with thousands of others 

This past weekend, a number of our students and their parish youthgroups joined more than 23,000 Catholic teenagers from around thecountry at the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) inIndianapolis. Click here for some reflections from a few of our studentswho attended.

Annual Toys for Tots collection begins

The House of Justice is again sponsoring its annual toy drive to supportToys for Tots. Students are asked to donate new toys and deposit themin the box designated for their House located in the student entrance.

The goal is to collect 200 toys per House, and the winning House willreceive points toward the Second Quarter House Points Competition forentry in the final four next spring. The collection began yesterday andwill run through Dec. 17.

Cheerleaders win first in two events at NCA event

Over the last two weeks, Deanery eighth graders as well as sixth gradersfrom St. Mary of the Knobs, St. John Paul II and St. Joseph in Corydonvisited Providence on their respective Shadow Day. Students got a tasteof what life as a Providence student will be.

The sophomore class recently participated in the annual UnityCeremony. The ceremony includes a class liturgy following by aceremony in which the students receive their House pins. Additionally,students had their class rings or other token blessed and received thoseas well. Parents of sophomores were in attendance.

Powder Puff raises money for After Prom

The annual Powder Puff touch football competition between the juniorand senior girls was held earlier this month. The seniors (above) won thegame 16‐14, and all proceeds from entrance fees and the concessionstands supported the After Prom.

Students help needy in various ways

Our students helped those inneed in various ways thismonth. On Nov. 15, the ArtClub and House of Humilitysponsored the annual EmptyBowls event. Students craftedceramic bowls and offered asimple meal of soup andbread to the public.

Donations from those in attendance and sponsorships resulted in about$2,400 being donated to various agencies and ministries that providefood to the hungry in our area.

Our students and staff alsohelped those in need via thecafeteria's annual Soup Day.The students' lunch offeringfor the day includedhomemade soup and simplevegetable and/or fruit sidesto bring awareness to those

in need. Students, faculty and staff donated canned goods as well asgently used warm clothing and blankets. Proceeds from No ShaveNovember also were used to purchase staple foods. The House ofHonesty won the House challenge by donating the most food andclothing.

Those donations resulted in758 pounds of food, about800 cans, going to the St.Vincent de Paul food pantryat St. Anthony Parish, sixboxes of clothing and a checkfor $1,600 donated by thecafeteria from proceeds fromSoup Day lunches to InHeaven's Eyes ministry atHoly Family Parish. An additional truck load of donated food went toThe Community Kitchen soup kitchen in Jeffersonville. 

This past weekend, studentsfrom the House of Humilityconducted another serviceactivity and served meals atColgate Baptist Church inClarksville. With the help ofstudents from several otherHouses, they served a

Thanksgiving meal to those in need as part of the church's ministry tothose who are homeless.

PARENT CONNECTION

Guidance Spotlight: Peer Coaching and tutoring

The GuidanceOffice providesoversight to twoNational HonorSociety programsthat help studentswith academic andsocial needs. Nowin its fifth year,

the Peer Coaching Program paired 17 NHS members with underclassmento offer tutoring, social interaction and other support. The peer coachesand their match students meet weekly, typically during BLUE Dayssessions. The program had its kickoff earlier this month.

NHS members also offer regular tutoring to any students who need extrahelp. That tutoring is available in the Guidance Office on a walk‐in basisduring BLUE Days sessions on Monday and Tuesday mornings. 

Placement Exam coming soon

The High School Placement Exam for incoming freshmen for the 2016‐2017 school year is Saturday, Dec. 12, from 8:45 a.m. to noon. Studentsshould arrive by 8:45 a.m. at the Robinson Performing Arts Center. Bringtwo No. 2 pencils and a check for $15 made payable to Providence HighSchool.

Thanksgiving Break begins tomorrow, and we hope all ourstudents, faculty, staff and families have a relaxing time withfamily. Classes will resume on Nov. 30 with a BLUE Days schedulefor a B day.Second semester student schedules will be available throughSkyward Family Access starting Dec. 4. Requested schedulechanges should go through the Guidance Office before Christmasbreak.Final exams will be on full‐day schedules this year, as mandatedby the Indiana Department of Education. A schedule is attached forDec. 14‐17.PHS eLearning Days will be implemented in case of inclementweather. Be sure your emergency contact information is up todate, and use Family Access in Skyward to update it if needed.Click here for more info about eLearning. Morning drop off for students remains at the front circle. Becauseof the new configuration of the parking lot, drop off at the studententrance is no longer possible. Only students, faculty and staff whowill be parking may enter the parking lot.

Save the Date: Christmas Concert

The annual Christmas Concert will be Sunday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m. in theRobinson Auditorium and will feature performances by the ProvidenceSingers, Popcorn Players, and the Choir‐Musical Theatre class. Watch thewebsite for more information.

Preparations for annual Gala Dinner underway

This year's annual Gala "Providence Under Construction" will be held atHuber's Orchard and Winery in Starlight, Indiana. The Gala is our largestsocial gathering and celebration of the Providence family with 350‐400guests in attendance. BLUE PRIDE ON DISPLAY

Knott grateful for experience at Bellarmine

Former Pioneer George Knott'13 is experiencing what it'slike to be a member of a top‐ranked NCAA Division II men'sbasketball team as aBellarmine University Knight. The junior exercise sciencemajor has learned a lot frombeing on the team, havingcarried with him many lessonshe learned in the LarkinCenter and in the classroom. 

He will be featured along with Patricia Mattingly '15 in the winterathletic guide, available at Pioneer sporting events beginning in earlyDecember. Click here for a Q&A with George.

Former PHS Volleyball player named all‐conference

Congratulations to former Lady Pioneer Volleyball standout Haley Libs'15, who has been named Horizon League Freshman of the Year as wellas a member of the All‐League team and All‐Freshman team. Haley is afreshman for the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team andtallied a team‐high 379 kills for the regular season with an average of3.58 per set. She ranks third in the Horizon League for kills, as reportedon the NKU website.
