Santa StrawberriesIngredients: 1 dozen strawberries,1 cup whipped cream,a handful of chocolate sprinkles

Directions:Using a pairing knife, slice the leafy end off each strawberry sothey stand up evenly. Then slice the tip off to make a little hat.Using a spoon or a large icing tip, place a large dollop (about 1-2tsp) of whipped cream on top of the strawberry base. Plop the lit-tle hat on top. Add another small dollop of whipped cream to thetip of the hat to make a mock pom-pom. Place two chocolatesprinkles in the Santas "face" for the eyes. Holiday Peppermint Oreo Balls

Ingredients: 1 package Oreo’s®, 8 ounces Cream Cheese at room temperature,

1 package chocolate chips (melted), 1 box candy canes

Directions:

Crush Candy Canes until it is a fine powder. Use Blender. †Add the crushed candy canes to the Oreo's. Mix Oreo's and Candy Canes together

(reserve about 1/4 cups candy cane to sprinkle over the top of the Peppermint Oreo balls when the were finished). Add softened cream cheese,

room temperature, to oreo/candy mixture. Mix together until it forms a large ball. Ball will be moist. Form small balls and line on wax paper.

Follow the directions on chocolate chips to melt chocolate chips. When melted, cover oreo ball in melted chocolate and return to wax paper.

Follow directions on White Chocolate Chips for melting directions. And drizzle over top of balls and sprinkle with remaining crushed candy

cane. To help the chocolate harden, put it in the fridge for about 20 minutes

Slow Cooker MeatballsPrep time: 10 mins; Cook time: 1 hour 20 mins ; Total time: 1 hour 30 mins • 1 pound ground beef or turkey • 1 egg• 1 clove garlic, minced • 1/2 medium onion, minced• 1 cup jellied cranberry sauce or your favorite jelly, such as grape, apricot, or blackberry• 1 cup chili sauce • 1 tablespoon honey

Instructions1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees as making meatballs.2. In a large bowl, combine first four ingredients (through minced onion) until well-combined. Form into small meatballs. Place onto a bakingsheet and bake for about 20 minutes, turning half way through cooking time.3. Alternately, you may use frozen meatballs that have been thawed completely in the refrigerator overnight.4. Pour jellied cranberry sauce or other jelly, chili sauce, and honey into the crock of slow cooker. Stir well. Add meatballs and simmer overlow heat setting for 1 hour before serving.


Create a bag that's 5" tall, 4.5" wide,

and 3" deep.

Stack two sheets of newspaper on top

of each other. This will be a two-ply

bag for extra sturdiness.

Cut out a rectangle that's 15.5" wide

and 8.25" tall. If your paper already

has a fold in it, align the existing fold

with one of the fold lines in the dia-

gram below, unless you don't mind an

extra fold appearing somewhere on

your bag. cut out this rectangle, then

flip the paper over so the blue area

would be on the outside of the bag.

Fold a flap 1.25" down from the top.

Fold a flap 2" up from the bottom.

Then measure off and make vertical

folds in the places shown in the dia-

gram above. The front and back panels

are 4.5" wide, the side gussets are 3"

wide, and you'll need a 0.5" flap for

gluing the bag together.

Cut two pieces of cardstock or chip-

board to 4.25" x 1", then glue them on

the widest two panels just under the top

fold. These will reinforce the rim of the

bag. Glue the top flap down along the

length of the bag, covering the card-

stock. Since the bag is two-ply, you'll

need to glue both flap pieces down one

at a time.

Put glue on the outside of the 0.5" tab

and bring the left-most panel over to

form the body of the bag, aligning the

cut edge of the panel with the folded

edge of the flap. Add a little more glue

to make sure the outermost sheet of

newsprint gets tacked down, too.

Upend the bag so the 2" flap is now up.

Fold the short sides inward as if you

were wrapping a present. If it seems

easier, you could also lay the bag on its

side and crease those folds against the

table.

Put glue on both flaps and fold them

inward to form the bottom of the bag.

Standing the bag upright and pressing

down from the inside will help to secure

them.

Cut a piece of chipboard to 4" x 2.5"

and glue it to the bottom of the bag to

reinforce it and hide the flaps.

Punch holes in the rim of the bag,

adding eyelets if you like, and string

some cord through the holes to form

handles. Knot each end of the cord so

it won't pull out through the holes.

If you want to store your bag flat, pinch

the top together, fold in the sides, and

bring the bottom up so that it lies flat.

Makes 2 loaf pan-sized cakes• 1 1/2 cups dried cherries (sweet or sour), well-chopped

•1/4 cup plus 6 tablespoons rum, whiskey, or amaretto

•1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

• 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

•1/2 teaspoon salt

•1/2 teaspoon baking soda

•1/2 teaspoon baking powder

•10 tablespoons butter (salted or unsalted), at room temperature

• 1 egg yolk

• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

• 2/3 cup buttermilk or plain yogurt (regular or low-fat)

• 1 cup walnuts, pecans, or almonds, toasted and finely-chopped

•3/4 cup chocolate chips

1. A day or so before you make the cake, toss the cherries in º cup of liquor.

Cover, and let marinate.

2 Grease two 9-inch loaf pans and line the bottoms with parchment paper

or dust with cocoa powder. Preheat the oven to 350F

3. Sift together the flour, cocoa, salt, baking soda, and baking powder. Set

aside.

4. In the bowl of a standing electric mixer, beat the butter and sugar until

very light and fluffy. Stir together the eggs and yolk with the vanilla,

5. Mix in one-third of the flour/cocoa mixture, then half of the yogurt or

buttermilk. Then mix in another third of the dry ingredients, then the rest

of the yogurt. Finally add the remaining dry ingredients, and gently stir in

the nuts, chocolate chips and cherries. (Which should have absorbed all the

liquid. If not, add that as well.)

6. Divide and smooth the batter into the two prepared loaf pans and bake

for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out

clean. Let stand on the counter top for about 15 minutes.

7. With a skewer, poke 40-50 holes in the cake and spoon 3 tablespoons of

liquor over each cake. Let cool.


In gift wrap emergencies when you've got the present but

need some wrapping, here's an idea for turning a magazine

page into a bow. Use staples adhesive glue dots, double stick

tape or brads to assemble.

Cut a magazine page lengthwise into 9 strips, 3/4" wide.

Leave 3 of the strips full length. Cut one inch off 3 of the

strips. Cut two inches off 2 of the strips. Cut the last strip

down to 3 1/2" long.

If you're using a magazine that's 10 1/2" tall, you'll end up

with:

3 strips, 10 1/2" x 3/4"

3 strips, 9 1/2" x 3/4"

2 strips, 8 1/2" x 3/4"

1 strip, 3 1/2" x 3/4"

Twist each strip to form a loop at both ends and staple it in

the center. Shape the last, short strip into a circle and secure

it with a glue dot.

Layer the three longest pieces on top of each other, spacing

them evenly and securing each with a glue dot. Add the next

two groups of pieces, doing the same. And finally, stick the

loop into the center.

Use other papers, like a map of your city.

BBQ Chicken Bites are flavorful appetizers

of bacon wrapped BBQ chicken.

Perfect for Ingredients:

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into

1-inch cubes

1 pound bacon, cut in half

1/2 cup BBQ sauce, your favorite

toothpicks or skewers

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 275 degrees.

2. Wrap each cube of chicken with a piece of bacon. Secure with

toothpick or skewer and brush with BBQ sauce.

3. Bake for 20 minutes. Turn chicken skewers and brush other

side with more BBQ sauce. Bake another 20 minutes.

4. Remove from oven and serve warm.

5. Make-ahead Tip: BBQ Chicken Bites can be made ahead and

stored in the refrigerator in a ziptop bag for up to 3 days. To

reheat, remove from the plastic bag, place onto a baking sheet and

reheat in a 275 degree oven for 15-20 minutes until completely

warmed.

Spiced Chocolate Cupcakes with EggnogButtercream

Yield: 18 cupcakes

Tender chocolate cupcakes spiced with

cinnamon and cloves topped with rich

buttercream flavored with eggnog.

Ingredients for the spiced chocolate cup-

cakes:

1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons hot coffee

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

1 cup sugar

1 large egg

1 large egg yolk

1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons sour cream

1/2 cup vegetable oil

Ingredients for the eggnog buttercream:

1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature

4 cups powdered sugar, sifted

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2-4 tablespoons eggnog

Instructions to make the cupcakes:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a muffin pan with cupcake

liners or grease and flour.

2. In a small bowl, whisk together the hot coffee and cocoa powder

until smooth and no lumps remain. Set aside to cool slightly.

3. In another bowl, sift together the flour, salt, baking soda, cinna-

mon, and cloves.

4. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment,

beat the egg, egg yolk, and sugar on medium high speed until pale

yellow in color. Add the sour cream and mix until combined, fol-

lowed by the vegetable oil. Add the flour mixture all at once and

mix until combined. Add the cocoa mixture and mix until smooth,

scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.

5. Fill the cupcake liners 2/3 full with the batter and bake until a

toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean,

12-15 minutes. Let cupcakes cool in the pan for a few minutes,

then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Instructions to make the buttercream:

6. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment,

beat together the butter, powdered sugar, salt, nutmeg, vanilla, and

bourbon (if using). Add the eggnog a tablespoon at a time while

mixing on medium high speed until desired consistency is reached.

Increase speed to high and beat for a few minutes until smooth.

7. Frost cupcakes with the buttercream. The cupcakes should be

stored in an airtight container and will keep at room temperature

for several days and about a week in the fridge.

Spiced Glazed Nuts & Pretzel Mix

About 4 cups • 2 cups mixed raw nuts (untoasted); any com-bination of cashews, whole almonds, peanuts,pecan halves, and hazelnuts •1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted •3 tablespoons dark brown sugar •1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon •3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or another red pepper) • 1 teaspoon flaky sea salt or kosher salt •2 cups small pretzel twists

1. Spread the nuts on a baking sheet and roast in a 350F oven for10 minutes, stirring once for even toasting.

2. In a medium bowl, mix together the melted butter, brownsugar, cinnamon, cayenne, and maple syrup.

3. Add the warm nuts, stirring until coated. Then mix in the saltand pretzels, and stir until the nuts and pretzels are completelycoated. Note that the salt is added after the nuts are stirred, so itdoesn’t dissolve. And be sure to use coarse salt, which has anappealing, crunchy texture and more delicate flavor than ordinarytable salt.

4. Spread the mixture back on the baking sheet and return to theoven for 12-18 minutes, stirring twice during cooking. Removefrom oven and cool completely, separating the nuts and pretzels asthey cool.

Once cool, this mixture can be stored in an airtight container forup to a week.
