Despite massive political worldwide upheaval (Brexit, Trump etc.), 2016 was a record-breaking year of sales across all divisions here at the LED Group. Most encouraging was our growth in Ireland, our home market. This now sees us ahead of where we were pre the crash of 2008.

We continue to lead and grow in markets globally; by building on our world-class portfolio of over 1,000 products, developing high-quality, desirable lighting solutions across categories and price points.

The ROBUS brand has built a strong platform for growth through investing in RD&I. Our industry is dynamic and staying ahead of the curve is critical to success. Our 5 year plan identifies future lighting trends that we believe will drive electrical wholesalers growth.

With strong support from Enterprise Ireland, we have a budget in excess of €1m for product development in 2017. Due to the fact that a lot of our products are now sold on projects, we have invested in a team of Project Engineers to further promote the ROBUS brand.

We see long-term opportunities to reach more customers with our winning strategy. Our products are sold in Ireland, UK, Europe, South Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. ACtivatetrueDriver-On-Board(DOB)technologyeliminatestheelectrolyticcapacitorandprovides driver efficiency and reliability to improve LED lifetime.

All power supply, driver components, dimming functionality, power factor, surge & thermal protection are integrated onto the LED PCB powered direct from the mains supply.

The TRIUMPH ACTIVATETM has state of the art integrated circuitry with no traditional electrolyticcapacitorswhichensureslonglife(electrolyticcapacitorsareoftenthecauseofprematuredriverfailure).

ACTIVATE is a very efficient technology which is significantly more reliable than separate, or driver ‘integrated’ into the fitting or heat sink.

Chip On BoardThe TRIUMPH ACTIVATETM doesn’t stop at DOB technology. It also uses the latest Chip-on-board(COB)LEDtechnology,deliveringahighlumenoutputinasinglebeam,lowpower consumption and low heat emissions.

Of particular consideration for lighting designs, the single chip light beam is easier to control and brings greater uniformity than multiple SMD or multi-lens LED fittings.

Compared to LV halogen, the TRIUMPH ACTIVATETMproduces:

What is the difference between ‘true’ driver on board, partial driver on board and integrated driver?

LEDsaregenerallypoweredbyaDCsupply.Adrivercircuitisrequiredtorectifyand condition AC power from the mains supply. Traditionally these drivers havebeenlargepowersupplyboxesofdiscreteelectronics,(usuallyincludingtransformers,rectifyingbridges,regulatorsandalargeelectrolyticcapacitor), on a trailing lead from the light fitting.

True Driver On BoardLED drivers can now be fabricated using integrated circuit electronics on the same circuitboard(PCB)astheLEDchips.Thisiscalled‘Driver-On-Board’technology,where all driver components are on the board, which is AC powered directly from the mains supply. This is a more advanced concept than simply enclosing, or boltingonatraditionalexternaldriver,withitslarge,discretecomponents.

Some manufacturers offer ‘integrated’ drivers or ‘mains-operated’ downlights, whichsimplybringsaconventionalexternaldriverintothelightfittingenclosure or connector block, usually compromising the thermal mass and heat capacity of the heat sink, or its convection cooling. This can impact the driver and LED lifetime.

Partial Driver On BoardUsually has an integrated circuit on the printed circuit board, but often has other circuitry located elsewhere in the fitting, typically in the heat sink region, compromising its performance and the reliability of the fitting.

Integrated DriverGenerally means that the driver circuitry is located elsewhere in the fitting, typically in the heat sink region, reducing the thermal mass of heat sinking and the efficiency of heat transport. Driver circuitry will typically be conventional.
