[Snack]

We will have a designated snack time each afternoon, during which students can eat a snack that they bring from home.

Only water is allowed in our classroom during snack, as well as throughout the rest of the day. Your child can bring a water bottle from home as long as it has a lid that seals tightly.

When it is your child’s birthday they are welcome to bring in store-bought treats to share with the class. I do ask that you only send one item with your child (ex. Only cupcakes vs. cupcakes & fruit roll ups).

Responsive Classroom is an approach that focuses on the relationship between academic success and social-emotional learning. Each

day will begin with morning meeting, where students will greet each other, have opportunities to practice speaking and listening skills, and engage in activities that create a positive classroom community. Students will have engaging academic experiences that promote autonomy and allow for academic choice. Through the use of direct and positive teacher language, students build a growth mindset, and develop the skills to be an active participant in our learning community. If a student is having trouble participating in classroom activities correctly, they may be asked to take a break –this is a positive tool where students work on using strategies that help them to refocus and become ready to learn again!

In our school we focus on being respectful, responsible, and safe. At the beginning of the year we will collaboratively work to create expectations for our classroom, and discuss our hopes and dreams for the year.

This year our class will be using the Seesaw app/website! I will be posting regular class updates and reminders about what is happening in our classroom, what we are currently learning, and how you can support that learning at home! Your child will have the ability to post pictures and videos of the work they do in the classroom.

On the app, the work in your child’s portfolio can only be viewed by you, and other family members who connect to that child – you can have up to 10 family members connected to one child.

I will be sending home instructions ffor how to connect to your child’s portfolio soon!

Backpacks – Please help to keep your child’s backpack clean and free of clutter! They will bring home work occasionally throughout the week, as well as in their Friday Folders.

Friday Folders – Most Fridays, your child will bring home a purple Friday Folder that contains work they have completed, important information from our class or the school, field trip information, and other reminders. Please check for this folder each week, and return it to school with your child the following Monday.

Extra Clothes – Please put an extra outfit for your child in his/her backpack! They will likely not be needed, but are always good to have on hand!

Birthdays – I ask that unless the entire class is invited, birthday invites do not come to school with your child. This avoids students feeling left out or upset with the birthday kiddo. Many families in past years have chosen to use evites. There is a directory available with contact information for the families in our class – please see Mrs. Johnson if this is something you are interested in.
