Walkathon report - Last Friday on a lovely spring day our students participated in our annual walkathon.

Students walked safely and sensibly to and from Elderslie Reserve, where a BBQ lunch was enjoyed by all and some fun games were participated in. The excellent support of many parents helped this big event to be successful.

We also note the efforts of students to sign up sponsors for their participation and return these by Friday 11th November.

I also acknowledge the organisational efforts of Mr Seeckts, who took on responsibility for this event and ensured it was most positive and memorable.

Building refurbishment works moving forward - Our appointed architects (Wendy Hastrich – who were just awarded a 2016 Victorian School Design Award for Best School Project Below $1 million) are significantly progressing our plans for the major refurbishment of the Junior / Administration building. We should be quite excited to see how this building will be brought into the 21

st century (it was

built some 90 years ago!) when works commence next year – possibly around Easter time. There will be some months of disruption but in the long run the result of this $839,000 grant promises to be awesome!

Prep / Junior Sports Day - Held at Peter Lowe Reserve this was a fabulous session, thoroughly enjoyed by our Prep and Junior students. Many students from our Seniors supported the range of fun and physical activities, showing great

leadership and patience. Even our new school purchase of a drone got a run! Helping our students to further develop skills and to have ‘fun with play’, was the objective. We again thank the parents who helped out on this morning and to Ms Walton for terrific planning of this ‘half of school event’.

Students at Mano ‘step up’ - Today we all had a little practice for 2017 – stepping up into the following grade level. We also welcomed back our 2017 Preps (71 students) for their 3

rd transition visit. It is important for students to prepare

for 2017 (many current Grade 6s are beginning transition visits to their secondary 2017 destination schools) and this session today will be followed by a more formal session in December (this will be in confirmed 2017 class groups, with confirmed 2017 teachers and in confirmed 2017 classrooms).

In particular we are mindful of the care needed to support students who will move communities / buildings for the new school year – Prep into Juniors, Grade 2s into Middles and Grade 4s into Seniors.

Swimming program starts Monday November 14th

- Our Preps and Juniors commence a 2 week swimming program at the Geelong College pool, Newtown.

This requires lots of organisation and planning, as we take 180 students to and from the pool each day and each student participates in small groups in the pool according to ability. We appreciate parental support for this big fortnight by ensuring students are fully prepared for each day.

Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) 2017 CSEF is provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school excursions, camps and sporting activities. If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible for CSEF. A special consideration category also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families. Application forms should be completed and lodged with schools by 3rd March 2017, as payments are made from March. However schools will be able to accept and process applications up until the end of term two each year. Walkathon Sponsorship forms are due back

by tomorrow (Fri 11th

). A big thank you to our

sponsors who have supported our students.

We really do appreciate the sponsorship and

the funds our students have collected already!

To our students - please extend a thank you to

all of your sponsors and keep those forms

coming in!

Road Safety A concern has been brought to our attention regarding students crossing the road unsafely. If you are picking a student up from school, please ensure that you are safely crossing the road WITH your student and not calling them across the road in front of heavy traffic. We are fortunate with the 40km/h zones right around the school and we can be thankful that no one was hurt.

Chaplain’s Corner - M&M club (Milo & Mindfulness) Started this Monday the 7th of November at 8:30am, and every following Monday, we’ll be running the M&M club in the Prep building. M&M stands for Milo and Mindfulness. All students are invited to drop in from 8:30am onwards to have a cup of Milo and join in some mindfulness activities which will be held in the prep building. The M&M club is a great way to have a positive and calm start to the school week. The M&M club provides companionship, a relaxing and safe environment as well as non-stressful school start. If your child/children struggle attending school or entering the classroom, the M&M club is designed to help your child/children calm down before school starts. Come any time between 8:30-9:00am and de-stress the school drop off for you and your child/children. M&M club is designed to assist the young people at Mano deal with the stress, pressure and challenges of school and daily life. Milo is a great start to any day! Also, Mindfulness helps us look after our mind, and build mental health and wellbeing, through positive interactions, activities, exercises and environment. If this is something you would like to do yourself, or at home with your family, I highly recommend Smiling Minds. For any questions, concerns or if you just would like to have a chat or have a great idea please come talk to the chaplain. The chaplain is available Monday to Tuesday, 8:30-4:00pm. I look forward to getting to know you and your family and supporting your child/children through their time at Mano. The M&M club, Mondays at 8:30am onwards, Prep Building! Sincerely, Jesse Winter School Chaplain
