Statement of NeedThis symposium seeks to fulfill the need in practicing Adult & Pediatric Cardiologists, Internists, Pulmonologists, High-risk Obstetricians, and Hospitalists who care for adults with congenital heart disease (CHD) to increase knowledge and competence regarding contemporary diagnosis and management of adults with congenital heart disease. Topics will include: pulmonary hypertension treatment, assessment of coronary artery anomalies, using ACHD guidelines to facilitate diagnosis and management of adults with CHD, and the diagnosis and management of aortic aneurysms related to acquired conditions in patients with other types of CHD. The symposium will utilize lectures, case presentation, and panel discussions to optimize learning.

Learning ObjectivesAt the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

• Appropriately assess patients with pulmonary hypertension associated with congenital heart disease for pulmonary vasodilator therapy

• Develop and implement an evidence-based management plan for patients with moderate and complex congenital heart disease

• Identify adults with moderate and complex congenital heart disease (CHD) who require consultation and refer to a specialty center for optimal management

• Discuss the signs and symptoms of coronary artery anomalies and provide timely referral to specialty care when appropriate

Target AudienceThis is a regional program designed for community physicians, adult & pediatric cardiologists, internists, pulmonologists, high-risk obstetricians, and hospitalists who care for patients with congenital heart disease, as well as nurses and other allied health practitioners interested in the care of patients with ACHD.
