in2014asheadofthe9thgradeprogram.In2016,shejoinedthevarsitycoachingstaffwhereshehelpedleadtheRaidersbecomeconferencechampions.Ellenwasnamedthenewvarsityvolleyballcoachin2017.OutsideofCDH,Ellenisinher8thyearofcoachingvolleyballforNorthernHeat-CDHJOVolleyballClub.EllenisalsothemiddleschoolscienceandengineeringteacheratSt.Joseph’sSchoolinWSP.

NofreshmanplayerwillmoveupunlesstheybecomeastarteratthevarsityleveloraspecificpositionisneededattheB-squadlevel.TheCDHvolleyballprogramstronglybelievesinkeepingallfreshmentogethertocreatestrongfriendshipswithintheirclass.TheB-squadwillconsistprimarilyofsophomoresandwillnothavemorethan15playersontheroster.TheJuniorVarsityteamwillconsistprimarilyofjuniorswithnomorethan15playersontheroster.TheVarsityteamwillhavethetop10-15playersintheentireprogram.CuttingPolicyCretin-DerhamHallvaluesandencouragesasmanystudentstoparticipateinextra-curricularactivitiesasmuchaspossible.TheCDHvolleyballprogrambelievesandsupportsthispolicy.However,sometimescutsneedtobemadetoensurethatwehavethestrongestpossibleprogram.9thGradeLevelTheCDHvolleyballprogramfirmlybelievesinaNoCutPolicy*atthefreshmanlevel.Ourcoachesworkhardtodevelopeveryplayersotheyarepreparedtotryoutatthenextlevelthefollowingseason.Weoffertwocompetitiveteams(Purple&Gold)atthe9thgradelevelandonedevelopmentalteam(White).Eachteamcanholdupto15players.*ToensurethateveryplayergetsthebestpossiblevolleyballexperienceatCDH,wewillmakecutsifthetryoutnumberexceeds45players(or30playersifonlytwoteamsareformed).B-Squad,JV,andVarsityLevelDuetohighinterestnumbersattheselevels,cutsneedtobemadetokeeptherosterat15playerseach.Itisatthecoach’sdiscretionateachleveliftheydecidetokeepfewerthan15playersontheroster.

TeamPhotographerTheCDHvarsityteamislookingforaparentvolunteertotakephotosatavarietyofgamestocaptureourseason.Thispersonwillneedtoprovidetheirowncamerathatcantakegoodactionshotsoftheplayers.Thispersonneedstocaptureteamphotosandatleast5photosofeachindividualvarsityplayer;aswellas,thecoaches.Thepicturescanbeoftheplayersplaying,sittingonthebench,cheering,doingsomethingsilly,orreallyanythingthatcapturesthefunspiritofplayingvolleyball.Thesepictureswillbecompiledintoafunslideshowtoberevealedattheend-of-the-seasonvolleyballbanquet.PleasecontactEllenSchaferifyouareinterestedinthisrole.
ProgramPolicies&RulesPlayingPolicy:PlayingtimeisnotequalatanylevelintheCDHvolleyballprogram.However,itisourpolicythateveryplayerisallowedtogetinatleastonceineverymatchatthe9thgrade,B-squad,andJVlevels.Playingtimewillbemeasuredbyindividualskill,effort,attitude,positionneeded,andteamchemistry.Atthevarsitylevel,thebestplayersplay.Thevarsitycoachingstaffwilldotheirbesttomakesurealltheplayersreceivesomeplayingtime,butthereisnoguaranteethateveryplayerwillplayeverymatch.AbsentPolicy:Ifyouaresick,pleasetaketheappropriateactionstokeepyourself,yourclassmates,teammates,teachers,andcoacheshealthy.Wewantourplayerstobehealthyandunderstandabsencesintheinstanceofsickness.Missingapractice,matchorbothduetoanillness,familyemergency,orexcusedabsencewillnotresultinalossofplay.Pleaseinformyourcoachasearlyaspossibleifyoucannotmakeapracticeormatch.Inordertoplayinthatday’smatch,allplayersmustbepresentatschoolby11:00am.Ifyoumissapractice,match,orbothforanunexcusedabsence,thefollowingpolicywilltakeplace:UnexcusedAbsencesfromPractices -1missedpractice=sittingoutfirstsetofnextmatchyouparticipatein -2missedpractices=sittingoutthefirsttwosetsofthenextmatchyouparticipatein -3missedpractices=dismissalfromteam

Letterswillbehandedouttoplayersthatmeetalltheserequirementsattheend-of-the-seasonbanquet.*Managersandseason-endinginjuriesorillnesswillbeevaluatedcasebycase.

ProgramRules:1. Allplayersareresponsibleforsettingupandtakingdownequipmentproperlyat
everypracticeandmatch.2. Allplayerswillbeontimetopracticewiththeirgearonandreadytoplay.For
example,ifpracticestartsat4pm,thenthenetneedstobesetupandaballcartfilledwithballsneedstobeonthecourtby3:55pm.Bythistime,playersshouldbewarminguptheirarmswithapartner.
3. Allplayerswillmeetinthedesignatedmeetingspot5minutesbeforethescheduledbustimeforallawayevents.
4. FreshmanPurpleisresponsibleforworkingallFreshmanGoldhomematchesandviceversa.Allhomematchesareback-to-back,soplayersmuststayforbothmatches.Ifyouarenotworking,thenyoumayworkonhomeworkorwatchthematch.
5. VarsityplayersareresponsibleforworkingallB-squadandJVhomematches.Captainswillcreateaworkschedulefortheteam.Ifyouarenotworking,thenyoumayworkonhomeworkorwatchthematches.
6. B-squadandJVarerequiredtostayfortheVarsitymatchatbothhomeandawayevents.B-SquadandJVplayersarerequiredtoassistinshaggingballsduringthehittingwarm-up.B-squadandJVplayersmaydotheirhomeworkduringthematch.
7. 2-3B-squadplayersareassignedateachhomeandawayVarsitymatchtofilmthegame.Yourteamcoachwillcreatearotatingworkschedule.
8. 2B-SquadorJVplayerswillbeassignedathomeVarsitymatchesasBallGirlsduringthematchtoassisttheofficials.Yourteamcoachwillcreatearotatingworkschedule.
9. Inadditiontotheseprogramrules,eachcoachwillhaveasetofteamrulesthatyouwillbeaskedtofollow.
CaptainPolicyCaptainProcedureTobechosenasacaptainfortheCDHvolleyballprogramisahighhonorandaprivilegethatshouldnotbetakenlightly.Ifyouwouldliketobeconsideredacaptain,thenyoumustmeetthefollowingrequirements:

EligibilityStandards:ParticipationinAthleticsActivitiesMid-TrimesterEligibilityAnystudentwhoisfailingtwoormorecreditsontheMid-TrimesterReportCardbecomesineligibleforparticipationinactivitiesstartingtheMondayafterParent-TeacherConferences.Thegradethatislistedonthestudent’sreportcardusedtodetermineeligibility.Thestudentwillremainineligibleforsevencalendardays.NoPracticeNoPlay.Attheendofsevendays,ifthestudentispassingallofthecreditsinquestion,eligibilitywillberestored.Ifattheendofthisfirstweekthestudentisstillnotpassingallofthecreditsinquestion,he/shewillremainineligibleforanothersevendays.Thiscyclewillberepeatedweeklyuntilthestudentispassingallofthecreditsinquestion.Oncethestudentispassingallofthesecredits,theAthleticDirector/ActivityDirectorwillbeinformedbytheGuidanceDepartmentandeligibilitywillberestored.ThestudentwillthenbemonitoredweeklybytheGuidanceDepartmentfortheremainderofthegradingperiod.Ifanyofthecreditsinquestionfallbelowthepassinglevel(D-),thestudentwillagainbecomeineligiblefortheremainderofthegradingperiod.EndoftheTrimesterEligibilityAttheendofatrimester,anystudentwhofailsmorethanonecreditwillbeineligibletoparticipateinanyathleticorco-curricularactivity.Ineligibilitywillstartonthefirstdayofthefollowingtrimester.Thestudentwillremainineligibleforsevencalendardayswhileanacademicplanisdevelopedtomakeupthecredit(s)inquestion.Developingtheplanwillinvolveinputfromthestudent,AthleticDirector/ActivitiesDirector,teacher,guidancecounselorandparents.Oncetheplanhasbeendevelopedandapproved,eligibilitywillberestored.AthleticEligibilityConsequencesforAlcoholTobaccoandOtherDrugViolationsStudentsparticipatinginCo-Curricularand/orAthleticactivitiesatCretin-DerhamHallareheldtohighstandardsandwilldemonstraterespectfulandresponsiblebehavioratalltimesforcontinuedparticipation.InsupportofandaccordancewiththeMSHSL,theadministrationwillnotifytheschooltowhichthestudentistransferringofthepreviousviolationhistory.IncooperationwiththeminimumstandardsoutlinedbytheMSHSL,Cretin-DerhamHallprovidesthispolicyandprocedurestodefineschoolinterventionsintimesofalcohol/tobaccoandotherdrugconcern.PenaltiesforCategory1Activities:Definition–Category1Activities:ThoseLeague-sponsoredactivitiesinwhichamemberschoolhasascheduleofinterscholasticcontests,exclusiveofLeague-sponsoredtournaments.
A. FirstViolationPenaltyThestudentshallloseeligibilityforthenexttwoconsecutiveinterscholasticcontestsortwoweeks,14calendardays,whicheverisgreater,ofaseasoninwhichthestudentisaparticipant.
B. SecondViolationPenaltyThestudentshallloseeligibilityforthenextsixconsecutiveinterscholasticcontestsorthreeweeks,21calendardays,whicheverisgreater,inwhichthestudentisaparticipant.
C. ThirdorSubsequentViolationPenaltya. Thestudentshallloseeligibilityforthenext12consecutiveinterscholasticcontests
orfourweeks,28calendardays,whicheverisgreater,inwhichthestudentisaparticipant.
b. Astudentwhochoosestobecomeaparticipantinatreatmentprogrammaybecomeeligibleforparticipationafteraminimumperiodofsixweeksafterenteringtreatmentifallthefollowingconditionsaremet:

i. Thestudentisassessedaschemicallydependent,ii. Enterstreatmentvoluntarily,andiii. Thedirectoroftreatmentcentercertifiesthatthestudenthassuccessfully
completedthetreatmentprogram.iv. Thetreatmentoptioncannotbeusedforthefirstorsecondviolation.
Successfulcompletionofachemicaldependencytreatmentprogramwillsatisfyonlythemostrecentviolation.Anyotherviolationsforwhichthepenaltyhasnotbeensatisfiedmustsillbeservedinfull.
D. ApplyingthePenaltyPleaseseetheStudentHandbookthatcanbefoundonwww.c-dh.orgforfullinformationonthispolicy.
TransportationAllplayersandcoachesmustridethebusthattheschoolprovidesforthemtoawayevents.Playersmayuseanalternateridehomeifthereiswrittenconsentfromtheirparentbeforethematchortheirparentspeakswiththecoachdirectlyafterthematch.Ifaplayerreceivesaridehomefromanon-familymember,thenwrittenconsentmustbegivenbeforetherideistaken.Ifaschoolprovidedbusisnotavailabletoanawayevent,thenitisuptoeachindividualplayertofindaridetothatawayevent.
SpiritWearPurchasingSpiritWearisnotrequiredintheCDHvolleyballprogram.Ifyouareinterestedinpurchasinggear,theflyerisattachedintheappendix.Thisyear’sstoredatesareAugust2-August9andAugust16-August20.
BanquetAllplayersandfamiliesonB-squad,JV,andVarsityareinvitedtotheend-of-the-yearbanquetatMancini’s.ThebanquetistheMondayaftertheStateTournament.Awards,acknowledgments,giftsandafunseasonrecapwillbegivenoutatthistime.Allplayersandfamiliesattendingmustpayafeeforyourmeal.Yourteamcoachwillgiveyoumoreinformationclosertotheendoftheseason.
