T he past year has been one of outstanding achievements within the College of Nursing and the accomplishments are a direct reflection of the excellence displayed by our faculty members, staff and students.
Collectively, we are helping to enhance nursing education, community service, research, and patient care for all Omanis and residents of the Sultanate of Oman.
In the aspects of teaching and learning, the College of Nursing attained a major milestone when it successfully held the site visit that precedes the accreditation certification for ACEN. The College also made major strides towards integrating innovative technology and simulation based teaching in undergraduate courses. The plan for implementing the Masters program in Nursing was finalized and the pioneer cohort will start in spring 2016. Student performance in both theory and clinical courses continued to improve as evidence by achievements of the student learning outcomes and program outcomes.
The College was blessed with the additional several well qualified faculty members who have enhanced its ability to ensure successful implementation of the educational programs. The faculty members, staff and students continued to volunteer their expertise and time to provide community services promotes health and well being in schools, rural communities and other settings.
We celebrated numerous publication and research successes in 2015, and these have shed new light on serious global and national health threats such as breast cancer, colorectal cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Our research has also made major contributions in the areas of nursing education and women’s health. At the same time, many members of our hard-working team were recognized for their efforts in research, scholarship, teaching and community service. These accomplishments are enabled through the generous financial and moral support of our administrators and Sultan Qaboos University at large.
The successes of 2015 are almost incalculable when measured on their dramatic and far-reaching impacts on Omani’s healthcare and social fabric. This report provides a mere snapshot of these triumphs but I encourage you to visit our college website to read about all of the ways we continue to excel. Moving forward, I anticipate even greater prospects and excellence for the year ahead.
Yours Sincerely,
Dr. Esra M. Al Khasawneh
