Contents Page Layout

Page 2: Contents page layout

I used the same font for the word CONTENTS as I did for my masthead on the

cover, I also used the font from the pull quote to write the word PAGE, I did this so it shows the link between the front cover and the contents page. The word PAGE

was not on my flat plan. The contents page title is centred and large like my sketch in

the flat plan. I enlarged the image by using the transform option on Photoshop.

Here I added images, I edited the images as well, so every image has a drop shadow and is embossed. Here I am just playing around with the space, because I decided to change the layout of the contents page. This is because I looked at different magazine contents pages and compared it to my flat plan layout. The layout which I had originally had in mind was very block like and boring. So I felt that it wouldn't be attractive, leading to my target audience not picking up the magazine.

Here you can see that I have added more pictures and decided where I wanted to place them. I chose to have each image rotated slightly, I did this because I found them more interesting to look at. I also made them a slightly large size so the images are able to be seen clearly by the readers. The images I have chosen link back to my breif, which is to create a school magazine. This is because the images I have used are of people studying and in school.

I changed this image on my contents page. The image I had previously used made me feel that it didn't work within the Contents page, this is because the model in front of the computer didn't look happy. She looked bored, so this I felt would put my target audience off. In place of it I used an image of a student holding text books walking up the stairs.

I looked at other magazine contents pages and I discovered that almost all of them had that magazines title name on the page. So to have my magazine more realistic I added the title of my magazine on top of the word CONTENTS. I used the same font as I did for the mast head.

One of the things I continued to keep within my final Contents page from my flat plan, was the rectangles which highlight the subtitles. I did this so it attracts the reader to the words, making them more interested in the information. I also made the colour of them the same as the colour of the scarf on the cover image, so it would be clear that this contents page belongs with the cover.

The number have the same font used in the pull quote on the cover. I had the number large enough to read so its clear. I also put circles behind the numbers so it can link to the graphic used on the cover. I also made them the same cover.

I got some feedback on how the Title of the contents page looked. I was told to look at magazine covers and see if the word PAGE was on the contents page. When looking at different magazines I found that not many included the word PAGE. So I decided to get rid of it. I also changed the layout of the title, I made the word CONTENTS extremely larger so it is more apparent to readers that it is the contents page. I made the ADVANCE smaller and placed it in the right corner, I didn't make it too small but I made it small enough so it is visible to readers and it doesn't take away from the CONTENTS title.

Here finished adding the information about the small subheadings. I used the font Agency FB (the same as the one on the cover) The writing is placed directly underneath the rectangle boxes with the same text alignment so it looks formal and systematic.

I made the rectangles a different colour, so it would link more to my colour scheme. It matches with the coverage and it also goes along with the colours on the contents as well. I made the colour of the sub heading in them white, so it is easier for my audience to read.

Instead of keeping the ADVANCE white I decided to change the colour to a purple. The purple I have used is coherent with my colour scheme. So it links the two pages together.

For the content title I added an outer glow to the words. The colour of the outer glow is the same purple which I have used throughout the magazine. To create this I right clicked the text layer and then selected outer glow when the blending options appeared. I then used the eyedropper tool to select the shade of purple, and then I increased the noise and opacity so the purple was visible. I didn't want it to be too heavy because because I felt that it looked too messy. I like how the colours match

I added more circles, so you can link the cover page and contents page together.

Flat plan VS Final

As you can see I have made vast changes to my Contents page. Some of the most obvious changes I have made is the relocating of the contents page images and information. I also used circles to be around the numbers instead of circles. This was due to me changing the graphic on the front cover. I also added the title of my magazine on the contents page. I feel that my final product is better than my flatland as it looks more visually appealing because the layout is spaced out better with less gaps. I have also rotated the images so it looks more friendly and appealing to my target audience.
