Maths
For maths our class is mainly focusing on algebra. Mathematics is one of our main subjects at school. We are now learning percentages, fractions, multiplying and dividing fractions etc.
We also have maths streaming where everyone changes classes to have maths with the students that are in the same levels as each other. Room 17 do not swap classes because we are all in the same areas but some of the room 16 boys and other students from other classes come into room 17. We always have maths mental speed tests, activity sheets and other things to help us with our maths. We improve our levels mainly by our maths mental speed test.
Social Science
For social science our class is doing a project which in the beginning of the term, we all chose a topic for our project. My topic is ‘ Workers Rights and Privileges. My partner in this project is Hohipere TeAmo. We are both working together in this project. Our other main topic is Labour Day which also relates to Workers Rights and Privileges.
Science
For science we have been having a test which internationally is a competition for Students ages 11-13 years of age. It is called ICAS. We sit for 4 tests and they are Science, English, Maths and ICT. We are also doing science projects on the virtual field trip which is the LEARNZ virtual field trips mainly for schools. We are studying on Wind power, Renewable Energy, Marine Reserves and Water Power.
Physical Education
Our class focuses on small ball skills and also large ball skills. We mostly play Hockey or Non-stop Cricket because it is part of our small ball skills. Our Syndicates both Savvyit and Maths are playing together for the sports trophy every week. During Assembly we year eight’s always want to find out which class wins the sports trophy . We are all in our a and b teams for tech to challenge all other teams for the trophy. Mr. Gounden is in charge for the running of the sports. Physical education is one of our class’ favourite subject.
ARTSDuring Block 3 we had Futures. I was the tutor in the
Otahuhu Intermediate’s Cook Island group. We were really enjoying it and the cook island group is made up of 45 students. I was helped by my family members. Especially my older brother Jordan. He helped me out with the boys. Our futures/arts programme was supported by Mrs Olive. For 4 weeks we had been practicing hard on blocks 3. We were all ready for our cultural festival on Thursday 2nd April. This was all about having fun and getting to know other cultures and to be the best we can be on the floorshow. We were really happy and we enjoyed ourselves a lot.
TECHNOLOGYFoods, Hard Materials, ICT and Visual Arts. I am now
studying Hard Materials by Mr. Somerville. I am creating a jewellery box so that I can put my jewellery in instead of losing my stuff. This design will really be useful to me. We are really learning new things each day. In the beginning I didn’t know how to make things with wood but now I have learnt new things. It just takes time and commitment to get things done and accomplish goals.
For I.C.T we are focusing on creating webpages are exploring new websites that can help us with our school work. We do not search inappropriate sites which contain violence, pornography and any coarse sites. The sites our class has discovered was Wetpaint, Wikispaces, Gmail, Blogger, YouTube, and other sites. We really enjoy using our new computers behind the all girls class. We all would like to thank Mr. Woods for the computers we are enjoying.
I.C.T
Our school is an environment friendly school. We all care about our environment and want our environment to be neat and tidy. We have environment groups. We plan to keep our environment clean by picking up rubbish and thinking of things to make our environment better than what it looks like now.

Term Reflections
Term 1:Maths: I learnt a lot of things in maths like ratios,
multiplying, dividing, subtracting and adding fractions and decimals. I have moved up levels and I get high marks for Maths mental speed test.
Literacy: I learnt that if we read a novel or a book a week, it will help us improve our literacy and knowledge. I improved my literacy heaps and it really gives me that extra knowledge if I read a book.
Futures: I tutored the Cook Island Group with my elder brother Jordan. We both shared our talents with students that were willing to learn about our culture.
Technology: I accomplished my designs and it came out professional. My design looked very good. I learnt how to make a jewellery box.
Term 2:Maths: Learn how to use percentages and
fractions. Be in time for morning work and complete the tasks before 9am . Try to get 20/20 for maths mental speed test.
Literacy: Complete News Reviews and Literacy tasks before Thursday. Read a Novel/Book and understand the moral or the message that the author is trying to give.
Physical Education: Bring my p.e gear every sport day. Wear correct footgear. Learn how to play different sports.
Technology: Learn new things and apply them to my knowledge so that I may learn new skills and help others using my knowledge.
Other: My goal is to get my honours badge before the end of term 2 or 3.
Conclusion
In conclusion I have trialed the accelerate class and I have learnt many things within a term. We have done so many things and I enjoy being in an environment which is full of fun and learning. Room 17 enjoys everybody’s company and we look forward to the things which are ahead of us. We are in a competitive environment but we do help each other as well as ourselves.
