International News On October 18, 1990, the Ontario Society of Endodontists held its annual scientific meeting at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto. Guest speaker Mahmoud Torabinejad of Loma Linda University School of Dentistry spoke on emergency treatment. Officers for 1990-91 were elected as follows: Calvin D. Torneck, President; Wayne Pulver, Past President; Keith Hunter, President-elect; Lionel Lenkinski, Treasurer; and Robert Munce, Secretary. The 26th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Academy of Endodon- tics took place September 13-16, 1990 in Saskatoon. Clinicians for the scientific session included Stanley Malamed who spoke on medical emergencies in the dental office and Edmond Truelove who spoke on dental pain. In addition, Drs. Ken Zakariasen, Lorne Chapnick, Joe Schwann, Howard Fogel and Earl Winestock presented papers. The meeting was held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the College of Dental Surgeons of Saskatchewan. The new Executive of the Academy is headed by Barry Chapnick (pictured at right), President; Sharma Sinanan, President-elect; Wayne Acheson, Treasurer; Stephen Brayton, Executive Secretary, Wayne Pulver, Constitution & Bylaws; and Carl Hawrish, Past President. Fifty dentists attended the Annual Meeting of the Malaysian Endodontic Society to listen to Leif K. Bakland of Loma Linda University lecture on a wide range of endodontic subjects. Dr. Bakland (seated second from right) is joined by the officers of the Malaysian Endodontic Society. Gold Medal nominations sought for 1991 The Gold Medal Award for Excel- lence in Dental Research is awarded to honor individuals who through basic or clinical research contribute to the advancement of the profession of dentistry or to major improvement in the oral health of the community. Awarded once every three years, this award will be given during the 132nd Annual Session of the American Dental Association in Seattle, Washington in October 1991. The individual chosen will receive $25,000 and a solid gold medallion. The Award is sponsored jointly by the American Dental Association and Chesebrough-Pond's Inc. Each candidate's qualifications must be set forth in a formal letter of nomination that is accompanied by a curriculum vitae and list of publica- tions. Nominations must be received at ADA Headquarters by June 30, 1991. Please direct letters of nomination to: Dr. Enid A.
