Session Outline:The interrelationship between endodontic and periodontal diseases has been a subject of speculation, confusion and controversy for many years. An endo-perio lesion can have a varied pathogenesis, ranging from quite simple to relatively complex. These lesions often present challenges to the clinician as far as diagnosis and prognosis of the involved teeth are concerned. It is essential to make a correct diagnosis so that an appropriate treatment plan can be developed. To make a correct diagnosis, the clinician must have a thorough understanding of these lesions and may need to rely on restorative, endoontic or periodontal therapy, either singly or in combination, to treat them. Therefore, this presentation will highlight the clinical diagnostic guidelines and decision-making steps required to appropriately manage these lesions.

Learning objectives:1) To understand the biological basis of the interrelationship between the pulp and periodontium2) To understand the clinical evaluations required to accurately diagnose periodontal,

endodontic, and combined lesions3) To determine the prognosis of teeth affected by periodontal-endodontic lesions4) To make evidence-based decisions when determining appropriate treatment plans for the

management of periodontal-endodontic lesions
