Any attempt to pay a deposit with an outstanding balance or documentation issue will not be reflected as a housing deposit payment. Housing Portal Application, Profile, Roommate Search, and Agreement Once students have satisfied the $500 housing deposit for the Fall 2019 term, they will receive access to the housing portal to complete the online housing application and agreement. Only eligible students will move on in the process to self-selection.

During this step, students are expected to complete their housing application, student profile, and housing agreement.

To access the Fall online housing application after satisfying the deposit: log into your MySJU account, click on the Reslife tab, and then click on the “Access the Housing Portal” link.

Failure to complete this step can negatively impact roommate requests. Students who do not complete their application will have their incomplete application cancelled. Those still interested in housing will be required to participate in the housing intent process. Incomplete applicants have not agreed to the terms and conditions of the housing agreement and are not eligible to continue on to the self-selection/placement process.

Self-Selection AppointmentsSelf-selection appointments will consist of a date and time in which the student will have access to the online housing portal in order to complete Step 3 of the selection process. Self-selection appointments will be sent to the student’s St. John’s e-mail address.

Please note: you may only choose roommates to fill your immediate bedroom. You are not eligible to fill adjoining rooms or other rooms in your suite. The following formula is used to determine your self-selection priority number:

Cumulative GPA x Credits Earned = Self Selection Priority Number(e.g., 2.8 GPA x 33 Credit Hours = 92.4)

Cumulative grade point average is determined by the Office of the Registrar through earned academic credits upon completion of the Fall 2018 semester. Reminder: students with a cumulative GPA of less than 1.95 at the completion of the Fall 2018 term will not be eligible to participate.

Credits earned are determined by academic credits earned through the Office of the Registrar at the completion of the Fall 2018 semester.

Housing Selection OptionsStudents may identify roommate(s) with whom they wish to live and self-select their bedroom as a group (based on availability).

If a student has no roommate preference, the Office of Residence Life will assign roommates.

HOUSING SELF-SELECTION

Self-selection appointments

e-mail address on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

Notice of EligibilityStudents who have paid the $500 deposit for housing selection will receive notice via their St. John’s e-mail account, informing them of their eligibility/housing appointment.

Housing Selection Information SessionsInformation regarding the application and roommate search process is provided during your first community meeting of the spring term. Another information session is held in your residence hall the week after the deposit deadline to give you an opportunity to ask questions and review the process.

The information sessions are hosted by your residence director/resident assistants. They will discuss how to select rooms, roommates, and choose a meal plan through the online tutorial. The online tutorial of the housing portal is available on our website.

Missed Deposit Deadline? Housing Intent Process is for You!If your deposit is not received by the deadline, you will not be eligible to participate in the Priority Self-Selection process. If an eligible student requests you as a roommate, you will still not be eligible to be pulled into a room. Please notify classmates of your ineligibility so they may seek other roommate options while in the portal, as you will not be present in their roommate search process.

Students who are unable to pay the deposit by the established deadline may complete a Housing Intent Form. This form is available in the Housing Portal. Students who complete the form will be contacted based on availability.

I Need to Request Special Accommodations for HousingIf you require a specific type of housing accommodation, please contact the appropriate office on your campus. Despite your accommodation needs, you are still required to meet all deadlines for the selection process in order to be eligible for housing placement.

■ All required and complete documentation must be submitted to the Office of Disability Services by the deadline.

■ You must register with the Office of Disability Services or with the Center for Counseling and Consultation by providing documentation about your condition and housing accommodation recommendations from your treating physician. Documents must be faxed or mailed to

I am a law student. How do I select housing?Law students select housing through a separate process. Please see the Law Student Housing Guide on our website.

What if I cannot make my appointment? Log in to the Housing Portal and select your room as soon as possible. For online selection, there is no way to have a proxy sign in to act on your behalf. Once the next person’s appointment time starts, they can select a room, diminishing your potential room choices. If you are not able to select a room prior to the online selection deadline, you will forfeit your opportunity to self-select your space and will be auto-assigned by the online system.

Note: When students confirm each other as roommate pairs in the housing portal, the roommate with the earliest selection time can choose the room and place all approved roommates into their bedroom.

I am a student-athlete. Do I need to participate in the housing selection process? If you are requesting to reside on campus for the 2019–20 academic year, you MUST submit the $500 housing deposit and complete all steps of the selection process by the deadlines outlined. Please note that athletes are subject to the same eligibility criteria as all other students participating in the process. Every effort will be made to secure a spot for student-athletes, but demand ultimately decides the outcome, and roommate requests may be affected.

I am studying abroad during the Spring 2019 term. Can I participate in housing selection? Current study abroad students hoping to reside on campus for Fall 2019 MUST submit the $500 housing deposit and complete the required steps in the housing selection process. Study abroad students will be able to participate in the selection process in the same exact way as all St. John’s students via the Online Housing Portal.

I am an Ozanam or Catholic Scholar resident next year. How will the process work for me? If you are requesting to reside on campus for the 2019–20 academic year as part of a special program, you MUST submit the $500 housing deposit and complete all steps in the selection process by the deadlines outlined. Please note that all special group participants are subject to the same GPA and student conduct review as all other students in the process.

What does it mean to be “eligible to participate”? To ensure that you are eligible to participate in the housing selection process, you need to meet all the deadlines and requirements outlined in this packet. “Eligible” means that you have completed the outlined steps; cleared academic and student conduct review; and are qualified for possible participation in the housing selection process. This does NOT guarantee a housing assignment during the housing selection process.

How can I see examples of rooms and buildings before housing selection? If you are interested in viewing floor plans or our 360° virtual tour, please visit our University Housing page at stjohns.edu/queens-virtual-tour or stjohns.edu/staten-island-virtual-tour before housing selection.

Can I get my deposit back? If you are not eligible or no longer interested in participating in the selection process, you must log into the housing portal and complete the deposit refund form by the deadline. If you wish to decline your housing, you must request your deposit be credited back to your St. John’s student account. Housing deposits are nonrefundable.
