Preface  In  Contrast,  Indiana  photographer  Ashlyn  Morris  and  French  photographer  Dennis  Olivier  experiment  with  close-‐up  views  of  nature.  However,  both  have  strikingly  different  emotions  that  they  want  the  viewer  to  feel  as  he  or  she  views  their  photographs.  Denis  Olivier  uses  long  exposures  in  a  range  of  black  and  white  tones  to  express  feelings  of  loneliness  and  being  lost.  On  the  other  hand,  Ashlyn  Morris  uses  intense  colors  in  order  to  celebrate  the  uniqueness  and  excitement  of  seemingly  common  items.  Although  their  viewpoints  are  the  near  antitheses  of  each  other,  both  artists  make  use  of  blur  and  low  depth  of  field  in  order  to  shape  their  exposures.

Artist  Biographies:  Denis  Olivier  Denis  Olivier  was  born  in  1969  in  Royan,  France.  He  was  first  introduced  to  art  photography  by  Alain  Fleig  while  studying  computer  graphics  at  Poitiers  School  of  Fine-‐Arts.  Dennis  Olivier  took  a  break  from  it  to  work  as  an  artistic  director  until  2005  when  he  returned  to  photography  and  began  his  work  with  long  exposures.  Olivier  states  that,  “I’ve  found  in  long  exposure  and  lost  places  moments  where  I  can  contemplate  the  World,  take  my  time,  and  forget  all  the  city  stuff  to  feel  the  roots.”  In  addition  to  long  exposures,  Olivier  also  experiments  with  shallow  depth-‐of-‐field  and  close-‐ups  of  objects.  He  currently  lives  in  Bordeaux,  France.
