The Problem

Weeds have been one of major biotic constraint in wheat

Crop infested with grasses and broadleaf weeds

Continuous use of herbicides having similar mode of action

results in weed flora shift and development of herbicide

resistance in weeds

Options

Sequential application of pre- and post-emergence herbicides

Use of tank-mix or ready-mix herbicide having dissimilar modes

of action

Experimental details

The efficacy of different pre- and post emergence herbicides andtheir tank-, and pre-mixes were evaluated in wheat during 2015-16in Punjab.

The wheat (cv HD 2967) was sown in Nov 2015 under irrigatedconditions and harvested in April 2016.

Pendimethalin and metribuzin were applied as pre-emergence, oneday after sowing and the post-em herbicides, at 35 DAS.

For pre-em, 500 L water, and for post-em, 375 L water/ha was used.
