1. General The Artemis control software consists of two parts, one is the actual control software that communicates with the Artemis MK5 and one human interface called “Control Panel software” Together they allows for full control over the Artemis MK5 Positioning unit. Communication between the Artemis unit and the Control Panel software is through a network connection. The “Artemis MK5 Network software package” (Network Controller) communicates with the Artemis MK5 and passes on messages to and from the CONTROL PANEL software. It also generate the serial output messages. A number of serial outputs are available and are identical to the Artemis MK IV system. In fact the Control software is the communication center between the user and the Artemis unit. Both the Control and Control Panel software runs on a standard PC with a network connection and together they fully control the Artemis MK5 unit. The Control Panel software is based on the Extended Operating Panel (EOP) as used with the Artemis MK4. Important information can be found on the main display that is visible at all time. The Controller panel software can run on multiple computers system to allow monitoring from different places. However, full control is allowed from one system, the master system. We suggest to have maximum five control panels active at the same time. A row of buttons controls the most important functions of the Artemis unit. Continues information about azimuth and distance keeps the operator up to date with the status of the position.

Page 2-2

2. Installation Control Software The control and panel software comes on a CD with the delivery of an Artemis MK5 system. The total files comprises: Varlist.lst Startup.sup A5network.ini Controlpanel.ini Buoylist.lst Directory with buoy files Alarms.txt A5Network.exe Controlpanel.exe

Installing this software you will need a CD-ROM drive. This installation requires the operator to have knowledge of installing software and setting up network cards.

Page 2-3

2.1. Installation hardware requirements The software package must be installed on a PC system with operating system (NT4/2000/XP). The minimum PC specifications are: Pentium III 64Mbyte of Ram 1 GB hard-disk 10/100MBps Network Card 2 Serial port Graphic card.

The graphics card can be a regular card, the software does not have any special requirements. However we suggest you setup your desktop with a resolution of 800x600 pixels.

2.2. Windows hardware setup For setting up the hardware the IP number for the network card must be set according to the table shown as below. The Human Machine Interface computer (HMI Computer) is the computer where you install the Controller software on. Unit Function IP Number Netmask Artemis MK5 Control Panel 192.168.44.200 255.255.255.0 HMI Computer Controller Software 192.168.44.201 255.255.255.0 The IP number of the HMI Computer must be in the range of 192.168.44.200 to 192.168.44.254 In the Network setup of your Windows Operating System you need to attach a TCP/IP protocol to the network adapter and setup the IP numbers. See windows manual or help file on doing this.

2.2.1. Multimedia When your PC has a Multimedia enabled this may cause problems with the network set-up. In that case the Multimedia must be disabled.

SUMMARY

Windows contains the "Media Sensing" feature. You may use this feature on a Windows-based computer using Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to detect whether or not your network media is in a "link state". A "link state" is defined as the physical media connecting or inserting itself on the network. For example, assuming a 10bt or 100bt physical media, Ethernet network adapters and hubs typically have a "link" light to indicate the current connection status. This is the same condition in which Windows can detect a link. Whenever Windows detects a "down" state on the media, it removes the bound protocols from that adapter until it is detected as "up" again. There may be situations where you may not want your network adapter to detect this state, and you can configure this by editing the registry. Note 10b2 or coaxial (RG-58) Ethernet cable is not a connection-based media. Because of this, Windows does not attempt to detect a "connect" state if this type of cabling is used.

MORE INFORMATION

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. To prevent your network adapter from detecting the link state: Note NetBEUI and IPX do not recognize Media Sense.

1.

Use Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe) to view the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters Add the following registry value: Value Name: DisableDHCPMediaSense Data Type: REG_DWORD -Boolean Value Data Range: 0, 1 (False, True) Default: 0 (False) Description: This parameter controls DHCP Media Sense behavior. If you set this value data to 1, DHCP, and even non-DHCP, clients ignore Media Sense events from the interface. By default, Media Sense events trigger the DHCP client to take an action, such as attempting to obtain a lease (when a connect event occurs), or invalidating the interface and routes (when a disconnect event occurs).

2. Restart your computer. Note There are some side effects of disabling the "Media Sensing" feature. For example, if you have a machine with two network adapters, and you have the "Media Sensing" feature enabled, if one network adapter does not work, it is unbound, and associated routes are removed so that all traffic goes through the other network adapter (assuming a default gateway is there). Also, if you are a roaming (portable) user, the "Media Sensing" feature is what provides the ability to connect to any network and have everything work, without restarting, release and renewing, and so on. After disabling Media Sense and restarting, Windows still shows the "Network Disconnected" icon on the TaskBar and the 'ipconfig' command still shows a "Media State .....: Cable Disconnected" message when the cable is disconnected. However, the Network Interface is bound to TCP/IP and you can verify this by looking at the route table --you can use the "route print" command-- which shows the interface IP address (you are also able to ping the IP address assigned to the NIC).

2.3. Software installation To install the software you must insert the CD in the CD-drive and run the ‘setup.exe’ program. Follow the installation instructions and restart the computer after the installation is completed. After installation create a short-cut on the desktop for easy start of the program. 3. Network Controller setup Setting up the Network Controller requires the IP numbers and HMI port number of the Artemis MK5 and HMI computer have to be filled in. The software comes with a pre-installed setup that is set for the IP numbers as listed above. If other IP numbers are used the operator needs to change the network setup in the controller software.

3.1. Starting the Network Controller software package Select the Network Controller icon from the desktop and double click it to start the software.

Page 3-6

For changing the network settings select the ‘Communications menu item. This will display the following menu:

This menu allows the user to select the communication protocol between the Artemis and the Network Controller. Earlier Artemis MK5 models used the ‘Standard Network’ protocol but the majority of these units are upgraded to the latest communication ‘advantaged network’. The present Artemis MK5 models uses the ‘Advanced Network’ for network control or RS422 when this option is installed. The choice Network or RS422 is next to the software selection also depending on the hardware connection on the UTP circuit. THE RS422 IS OPTIONAL IS CAN ONLY BE USED WHEN THIS OPTION IS PURCHASED. The option is protected with a software dongle fitted on the motherboard.

When the ‘Advanced Network’ menu item is checked (ticked) the user can press the ‘Communication Setup’ menu item and the setup dialog for this protocol will appear.

When the RS422 communication is selected the ‘RS232/422’ dialog menu can be selected . The RS422 option allows for longer distances between the Artemis MK5 and the HMI.

Page 3-7

3.2. Automatic network start-up The software is default setup for manual start-up, this means when the program is started it does not automatically connect to the Artemis unit. After installation we recommend to change this to ‘Automatic Boot’. This option can be selected in the ‘File menu’.

The settings are saved each time the software is shutdown. Under normal operation the controller should run continuously.

3.3. Minimize When the network controller is fully running you have to minimize the view.

Page 3-8

3.4. Simulation From on version 1.6.3 a simulation tab is included in the Network Program. In this set up you can set the MK5 Network program in Simulation Mode. Using the simulation mode it is possible to “Lock” with the control program to a counter station, the system will than simulate a real lock. Azimuth, Heading, Range and Signal will be shown in the control panel. The Network can be set as Mobile, Fix or Beacon. The Control Program must be set as counter station. Frequency and Address can be changed to simulate. When the simulation is enabled the Artemis control program can be locked against the counter (Network) station. In order to do that the antenna controlled from the control program must be aligned with the counter station which is 180 degrees opposite of the “start azimuth” setting. A distance can be “sailed” by setting the far range and a stop range. A selectable speed will decrease the range which is send to the control program.

When setting the simulation setting a warning is given which must be accepted.

4. Using the controller software After setting up the software it is ready to use. The indicators on the controller display will ‘tell’ you the status of the controller. Network status is displayed on the left side and the serial port status are displayed on the right side. It must be noted that the Control software must run prior to start up the Control Panel software.

4.1. Network status lights If the status lights are red it means that the network connection to that particular part of the Artemis unit is not working properly. Normal status of the lights should be flashing.

4.2. Serial status lights If the communications port is active it will display a green tick. The Tx or Rx led will flash according to the data transmitted or received. The small panel will indicate the type of message used on that specific port. (default is ‘none’) When pressing this panel a sample of the data is ‘grabbed’ and displayed in the ‘Data’ label below the lights.

4.3. Control panel list This list displays the names of the computers that are currently connected to the network controller and are running the Control Panel software. The number of panels connected are displayed numerical. We suggest to not connect more then 5 control panels to one network controller. One control light indicates data transmission to and from the control panels.

4.4. Data in/out These boxes show the flow of data in the ‘Local Artemis’ views between the Artemis and the ‘Network Controller’. In the views ‘Remote Artemis’ the data flow of the remote Artemis is visible. During operations data should appear in both boxes.

7. Appendix B This appendix covers the FPSO graphical navigation option, it describes all the functions and how to create an Autocad DXF file that is compatible with the software. If the Option button is pressed in the HMI the screen below will appear. It will ‘fall’ on top of the standard software window. The most important controls and indicators are also available in this screen.

The user can change the parameters for the graphical presentation and can control the most important Artemis MK5 parameters and antenna rotation.

7.1. File menu The file menu has two items that are used for selecting ‘pre-made’ outline files. This can be either Basic Outline files or DXF Outline files. The third item will allow the user to close the option window and go back to the standard window.

7.2. FPSO menu This menu has several items that manage the look and behavior of the FPSO graphical presentation in this option.

The ‘Outline Type’ is the type of outline used for drawing the FPSO on the screen. The used can select between BASIC OUTLINE and DXF OUTLINE. The basic outline type is as the name explains a basic outline of the vessel. The built-in editor for this type of outline allows for generating outlines with not much detail. For generating outlines with more details the DXF outline is more suitable. The DXF file must be formatted in a Autocad Release 12. Newer formats are not supported for now. A detailed description on the format of this DXF file will be discussed later. By pressing the ‘Modify Outline’ menu item the editor for resp. basic or DXF outlines will appear.

Page 7-26

7.2.1. Basic outline editor

A basic outline consists of a number of coordinates that are connected via lines. By selecting the type of vessel point the user can Add a Outline Point, Artemis Location or a Safety Sector Location. A Outline Point that draws the vessel, a Artemis Location Point that draws a small artemis symbol in the grapics and this point is also used for calculating parameters, a Safety Sector Location Point draws a small circle and is used for indicating the start location of the sector. More parameters for setting up this safety sector can be found in other menus. By clicking a point in the list the parameters of this point are loaded and the user can change them. By pressing the ‘Clear Edit Mode’ button the editor returns to its normal state. By pressing the ‘OK’ or ‘Apply’ button the user can save the changes into another file or just overwrite the existing file. To activate the new changes the file has to be reloaded.

Page 7-27

7.2.2. DXF Outline editor The DXF Outline editor does not feature a full DXF file editor. It allows for selecting a DXF file and entering the Artemis Location and Safety Sector Location coordinates.

The DXF files should be created outside this software with CAD Software. By pressing the ‘OK’ or ‘Apply’ button the user can save the changes into another file or just overwrite the existing file. To activate the new changes the file has to be reloaded.

7.2.3. Outline Color

By pressing the ‘Change Outline Color’ the submenu with the available selection will appear. The ‘Basic Outline Color’ selection will display a typical color selection dialog.

Page 44: Control Panel Software Manual V7€¦ · the Artemis MK5 and passes on messages to and from the CONTROL PANEL software. It also generate the serial output messages. A number of serial

Page 7-28

The ‘DXF Colors’ selection will display a advanced color selection dialog.

The ‘Layer Type’ selection gives the user a selection between FPSO layer and Shuttle layer. When the user wants to change e.g. the FPSO colors the FPSO layer has to be selected first. The layer number indicates the layer created in the DXF File. For creating Outlines with multiple layers in the DXF file the option supports a max. of 12 layers. Each layer can have its own color. ‘Layer 0’ is a default Autocad layer and is not used.

7.2.4. Set Safety Sector The Safety Sector is a sector that is used to indicate the ‘safe’ sector that must be used during loading of the Shuttle Tanker.

It creates a sector between a left and right sector limit, entered in degrees. A range determines the size of the sector. Colors of the safety sector can be changed. If the sector is enabled the software will generate a alarm when the shuttle tanker moves outside the safety sector.

Page 7-29

7.2.5. Set Link Color With this menu item the user can change the color of the graphical link indication between the 2 artemis stations. This link (dashed line) will appear when the system is in lock.

7.3. Shuttle Tanker This menu has several items that manage the look and behavior of the SHUTTLE TANKER graphical presentation in this option.

The items in this menu are exactly the same as the ones for the FPSO. For use of these menus please read the corresponding FPSO menus.

10. DXF Creation notes To create a DXF file for this option the user must take care of the following:

- Save the files as a Autocad Release 12. - Use the COG of the vessel as 0,0 point in your drawing. - Start drawing in layer 1 and add new layers for more details. - Do not rename the layers when adding new ones, use the default names. - Do not create more then 12 layers. - Use dimensions in meters.

There are 2 basic DXF files included with this option. Please load them into your CAD software and look at the points mentioned above.
