Conventions of pop music videos Pop music is often aimed at a young audience. It’s lyrics always contain similar narrative which relates back to love, relationships and friends. The mood of the song can be varied meaning there is a broad range of music within the genre, some being more upbeat and others being slightly more emotional; this allows the audience to relate their moods with the songs they are listening to. Not only does this mean that the pop audience can listen to different types of music within the same genre and enjoy it, but it also means that the music can connect with a wider range of people and often target people they never thought they could; this happens by altering their music slightly. Depending on the mood of the song, depends on the amount of colour and excitement the video contains. For example if the mood is very upbeat then the more bright colour used to connote the characters to make them stand out. But if the mood of the song is more mellow then the less bright colour used and the more darker colours are used. This is because their clothing has to represent their mood and the feel of the song in order for it to be successful and appropriate.
