CONVERTING 3-D MODELS TO U3D USING ADOBE PHOTOSHOP OVERVIEW: We can embed 3D models into pdfs using Adobe Acrobat. However, there are only two acceptable formats used in Acrobat, .u3d and .prc. This tutorial will convert .dae models into .u3d. You can convert other 3D output models to .u3d including .obj. However, depending on the size of your .obj file, Photoshop crashes. NOTE: This is a really basic instruction on converting in Acrobat. This assumes that your model is in the proper dimensions and doesn’t need to be re-scaled. REQUIREMENTS: Adobe Photoshop PREPARATION BEFORE TUTORIAL Need 3-D model in .dae format INSTRUCTIONS USING ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CC 2015.5 (should be the same for MAC and PC) 1. CONVERTING 3-D MODELS TO U3D USING ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

You can convert other 3D output models to .u3d including .obj. However, depending on the size of your .obj file, Photoshop crashes. NOTE: This is a really basic instruction on converting in Acrobat. This assumes that your model is in the proper dimensions and doesn’t need to be re-scaled. REQUIREMENTS:

• Adobe Photoshop PREPARATION BEFORE TUTORIAL

• Need 3-D model in .dae format INSTRUCTIONS USING ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CC 2015.5 (should be the same for MAC and PC)

1. OPEN 3D FILE

• Open Adobe Photoshop à Open à Select .dae file à Open

• Set the dimensions to whatever you want. Or leave alone and click OK

2. EXPORT TO U3D

• Click the 3D tab à Select Export 3D Layer…

• Change “3D File Format:” to “U3D” à Select OK à Give u3d file a name and location à Select Save.

Note: ECMA Options 1 and 3 refer to encoding options. ECMA 1 is compatible with Acrobat 7.0; ECMA 3 is compatible with Acrobat 8.0 and later and provides some mesh compression.
