Cooling Tower Motors2

Typical Applications

Cooling Tower Motors

WEG Cooling Tower motors are designed with a carefully selected set of features that allows reliable operation in 100% humidity applications and high corrosive environments. The line is suitable for frequency inverter operation, being capable to operate in either horizontal or vertical mounting. The Cooling Tower motors design is based on the W22 mechanical platform, which present improved cooling system and solid feet for cooler operation and reduced vibration and noise extending the motor lifespan.

Benefits

Double Sealed 2RS (Two Rubber Seals) Bearings WEG Cooling Tower motors are supplied with 2RS type bearings. They are fitted with nitrile rubber seals on both bearing sides to provide additional protection against the ingress of liquid contaminant agents to the bearing and motor enclosures.

Supplied as Standard for: J 2-pole motors - up to 200L frame J 4 to 8-pole motors - up to 250S/M frame

Shaft SlingerIn order to offer an additional protection against the ingress of liquid contaminant agents through the shaft end bearing, specially for vertical shaft up applications, Cooling Tower motor shafts are supplied with a rubber slinger ring.

This slinger operates as a centrifuge element that, when the motor is running, expels the liquids with its rotation movement.

Special Impregnation ProcessIn order to ensure the winding insulation resistance for ambient where high humidity is present, Cooling Tower motors in sizes 90 to 200L are supplied with double Polyester Dip and baked impregnation which, besides mechanically protecting the windings against the moisture presence, also ensures efficient heat dissipation. Cooling Tower motors in sizes 225S/M to 355M/L are impregnated with the “continuous resin flow” process developed by WEG, using epoxy-based impregnation resin.

Sealing Compound at Fitting JointsApplied to Drive End and Non-Drive End endshield joints and Terminal Box fixing screws, the Loctite 5923 compound forms an elastic film, improving the sealing on machined surfaces and threaded connections.

Dedicated Nameplate Clear identification allowing correct replacement.

For frames 90 to 100 - Single Voltage (110-127 or 200-240 V).For frames 112 to 355 - Dual Voltage (110-127 / 200-240 V).

Space HeatersPrevent water condensation accumulation inside the motor and maintain winding insulation resistance within acceptable levels, prolonging the electric motor lifespan.

Drains Versatility for Horizontal or Vertical MountingThe Cooling Tower line motors are supplied with drain holes for draining the water from inside the motor. The location of these drain holes in the Endshields (two axial and four radial) and in the Terminal Box (two in opposite sides) ensures efficient water draining from the motor enclosure.

The drain holes are fitted nitrile rubber plugs that offer resistance to oils and acids until the maximum temperature of 110 °C.

Internal Epoxy Coating (Tropicalization)This internal coating ensures additional protection against the harmful effects of high humidity environments that may compromise the integrity of the motor’s insulation system leading to premature deterioration.

Dedicated Painting Plan WEG Cooling Tower motors are supplied with a dedicated epoxy based painting plan (WEG internal designation 202E), specially designed for environments where high humidity is present. This painting plan exceeds the “C3” Corrosivity Category and “High” resistance to the salt spray test (minimum of 500 hours) as per ISO 12944-2 Standard.

Lifting Eyebolts at Horizontal and Vertical Positions In order to ensure maximum safety and ergonomic to operators, all motors in the Cooling Tower range are fitted with lifting eyebolts vertically and horizontally (in the drive endshield) positioned, offering easy handling, shipment and storage.

This ensures that WEG Cooling Tower motors meet specific local applicable standards and directives regarding product handling.
