Geothermal ERA NET Governance structure

High Level Policy and Implementation Committeesupports the Geothermal ERA-NET, encompassing program owners(i.e. ministries of member and associated states)

Each partner agency has a single seat in the

project supervisory board. The board is responsible for all major strategic and operational decisions

The consortium management groupconsists of all work package leaders and will occasionally be attended by leaders of individual tasks.

Close cooperation with relevant organizations at European (EERA, EGEC, etc.) and national levels (geothermal associations, research institutes, etc.)

• “Renewables for heating and cooling could save EUR 11.5 billion per year within EU” – Statement from AEBIOM, EGEC and ESTIF representing the biomass, geothermal and solar thermal

sectors respectively, which addressed an open letter to the Heads of State and Government, ahead of their spring meeting in Brussels 19th of March 2014.

• “Renewables for heating in Iceland is already saving up to 7% of GDP or equivalent 3000 US $ per capita per year”– According to assessment done within Orkustofnun, Iceland 2014

• “Geothermal District Heating has the potential to alleviate Europe’s energy security crisis “

• This was stated in a press release from Geothermal District Heating (GeoDH) in Brussels, 15th May 2014.

• It is therefore important for policymakers and others to recognize the great opportunity regarding geothermal heating for savings for countries, improve the energy security and mitigate climate change.
