On Thursday March 20, 2014 from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., St. Petersburg Police Officers and Interim Chief of Police David H. DeKay will take to the roof at the new Krispy Kreme Doughnut shop at 9100 4th Street North to lower buckets with coupons to customers in the drive-thru and at each entrance to collect donations for Special Olympics. “I encourage the public to come out to Krispy Kreme and support our Special Olympics Athletes. We can have fun and support our athletes together!” said Interim Chief of Police David H. DeKay. Mayor Rick Kriseman will be on the roof of the Krispy Kreme from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on Thurday. “ I am proud to stand with our men and women in the St. Petersburg Police Department to help them raise awareness for some of Florida’s most remarkable community members, the athletes of the Special Olympics. I sincerely thank our police officers as well as Krispy Kreme for their dedication to these incredible athletes as well as the mission of the Special Olympics,” said Mayor Kriseman. The St. Petersburg Police Department’s Mounted Patrol (Officer Ron Try and Brooklyn) and the Department SWAT Team’s new Bearcat (Armored Rescue Vehicle driven by Officer Jason Deary) will be at the Krispy Kreme parking lot to encourage everyone’s support for this worthy cause. Krispy Kreme will provide the following incentives for each level of donation: $1 + One free Original Glazed doughnut $20+ One Dozen Original Glazed doughnuts $200+ One dozen Original Glazed doughnuts each month for 12 months $1,000+ Doughnut party - up to 50 dozen Original Glazed doughnuts The Florida Department of Corrections will staff the roof on Friday March 21, 2014 and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office will be there on Saturday March 22, 2014.

Cops on Donut Shops for a Special Cause

For the first time in St. Petersburg, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics will team up to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics Athletes in Florida.
