PRESIDENT— Dr. A K Balyan

Dr. A.K. Balyan is the MD & CEO of Petronet –LNG Limited, a fast growing company in the Indian energy sector. M.Tech from IIT, Delhi and Ph.D from Germany, Dr. Balyan served India’s number one E&P Company - ONGC for over 3 decades. He established CBM production in the country for the first time. Dr. Balyan was elevated to the Board of ONGC in 2003 as the Director (HR) & Business Development, besides being on the Board of several subsidiary namely ONGC Videsh Limited, MRPL, Dahej SEZ Ltd.,

Mangalore SEZ Ltd., ONGC Tripura Power Company, Petronet LNG Limited, ONGC Petro additions

Limited and as Chairman of Petronet MHB Limited.

He steered ONGC’s diversification into sectors such as Wind Energy, LNG, Petrochemicals and

Power. He has received several awards and recognitions and has led many professional associations.

SR. VICE PRESIDENT— Ms. Neeru Abrol

Ms Neeru Abrol is C&MD of National Fertilizers Limited. She is a Chartered Accountant by profession and has about 33 years of rich experience in Manufacturing Industry. She joined NFL as Director (Finance) in 2007. Prior to which she worked with M/s Steel Authority of India (SAIL) for twenty six years at various positions. She embodies an extensive experience in the field of Financial Management. During her tenure as Finance Director in NFL, various flagship projects of the Company including conversion

of 3 fuel oil based units to Gas were initiated and completed successfully. She was responsible for

formulating financial strategies and plans of the Company.

During her tenure as Director (Finance), NFL has consistently won awards for excellence in Cost Management by Institute of Cost of Works Accountants of India for Vijaipur Unit in 2007, Nangal Unit in 2008 and Bathinda Unit in 2009 and for the Company as a whole in 2010. She is a Director on the Board of Fertilizer Association of India; was a member of Executive Board of Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) during 2010-2013; on Board of M/s Sail Bansal and a non-executive Director and Chairperson of Urvarak Videsh Limited, a joint venture company of NFL, Rashtriya

Chemicals & Fertilizers Limited & Krishak Bharti Cooperative Limited.

She has been awarded various accolades. The ICAI in December 2011 awarded her the "Business Achiever" in Women category. Hon’ble Prime Minister in January 2012 conferred upon her the maiden SCOPE award as “Outstanding Woman Manager” in PSEs for 2009-10. Bureaucracy Today - Star PSU Excellence Awards gave her “Best PSU Person of the year 2012”. Top Rankers Excellence Financial Leadership Award by Jindal Global Business School was conferred on her in January 2013. She has been recently awarded The Greatest Corporate Leaders of India Award on 15th February by

World HRD Congress.

VICE PRESIDENT— Dr. Ekta Saxena

Dr. Ekta Saxena, Ph.D. (Sociology) is currently working with Indus Business Academy, Greater Noida as a Faculty – HR and Faculty In-charge-Placements. She has excelled in both academic and extracurricular activities and received Scholarship awarded by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi for Doctorate work. She has more than a decade of rich experience in the area of Education. Her research

papers have been published in international/ national level journals. She is associated with various

professional bodies in various capacities.

LIFE PATRON— Mr. C S Puri

Mr. C S Puri started his career with Dunlop Rubber in Birmingham (UK) before joining

RUHR Stickstoff AG, Germany and later Chief of Human Resources with Goodyear for 25

years.

He is currently the President of his Consultancy Organization in HR and General Management. Mr.

Puri has been actively associated with DMA for over 3 decades as chairman of Human Capital

Committee for several years. Mr. Puri initiated a variety of high profile and innovative programmes

and the HR Committee was declared the best functional committee in recognition of his remarkable

contribution.

He was conferred Life Time Achievement Award at the Golden Jubilee Convention of DMA in 2006

and as Life Patron of DMA in 2007. His continued association with DMA is indeed praiseworthy and

would highly enrich DMA initiatives. Mr. Puri studied at Delhi University, Manchester University and

London School of Economics and Political Science in UK.

TREASURER— CA Raj Chawla

Partner, Raj Chawla & Associates. B. Com (Hons), FCA, ACS, FCWA, LLB and DISA. A

practicing Chartered Accountant, he specializes in Accounts, Audit and Income Tax

with over 20 years of rich experience.

IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT— Dr. Nalin Shinghal

Dr. Nalin Shinghal is the Chairman & Managing Director of Central Electronics Ltd. He

has done his B.Tech (Electrical Engg) from IIT-Delhi and PGDM from IIM (Calcutta).

He has been a Commonwealth Scholar and has a PhD in Transport Economics from

the University of Leeds, UK.

His 27 year career spans a range of assignments in Private Sector, Public Sector and Government.

He has worked with the Indian Railways in various capacities in Operations, Commercial & Marketing

functions as well as with Concor where he has handled Marketing, Operations & IT. He has also

worked with the Long Range Decision Support group of the Ministry of Railways. Prior to his current

position, he was Director Tourism & Marketing heading the Travel & Tourism business of Indian

Railways Catering & Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) which is today providing a range of tourism

products & services and is best known for its E-Ticketing services.

Dr. Nalin Shinghal has published a number of articles in leading national & international journals in

the areas of Transport Economics & Logistics. He is also associated with various professional bodies

in eminent positions.

Building Capabilities in HR Function is no longer just an HR Challenge (what good HR professional looks like), but is a organization Challenge. The businesses today are looking towards HR to lead the way and help to make the organization more agile, flexible, and stay ahead of the competitive (Learning) curve. Various studies and surveys apart from the feedback from the Business Leaders have also indicated that there is high need to develop capabilities for HR professionals. Based on the changing demands & expectations, HR professionals are continuously required to develop new skills to add value to the organization. Keeping this in view, DMA organized a Summit on “Building HR Capability” on 7th March 2014 in Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi. This Summit focused on the Knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies HR Professionals need to equip themselves with, to be not only successful but effective in these changing and dynamic times.

Director welcomed the distinguished speakers, delegates and set expectations for the day

with focus on the theme “Building HR Capability” and the objectives therein i.e. to

provide insights and perspectives into the expectations from Human Resource function, the

role of HR professional in today’s changing times, readiness for future: evolution of new

age competencies for HR and the capability agenda that each individual needs to

undertake to meet the growing challenges.

The inaugural address by Dr. A K Balyan, MD & CEO, Petronet LNG Ltd and President, DMA

set the stage, as it clearly defined CEO’s expectations from HR on Talent Management

acquiring the right talent, building capability, retention strategies for key talents as an

essential step towards managing productivity. Leadership development and managing

change were some key expectations. He stressed that HR should become more adaptable

and take steps to discard practices which no longer work & introducing new people

practices which would be need of the hour.

Key note address by Ms. Joji Sekhon Gill, Regional HR Director Asia Pacific (APAC), DuPont

was very thought provoking. Emphasis was on change highlighting Charles Darwin’s quote

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives.

It is the one that is the most adaptable to change”. She urged HR professionals to question

and challenge status quo, if not convinced & believe in mindful execution, the message

being to act as a Leader. Role of Values & Ethics was & building skills to adapt & embrace

change was emphasized upon. She concluded the session by giving HR message to

communicate effectively & Be Fearless.

Mr. Rajiv Kapoor, Chief People Officer, Fortis Health care Ltd gave an HR Leaders

perspective to the group by sharing the business & talking about HR alignments. He Shared

the role of HR as employee’s voice,: to touch heart & minds and at the same time to be

conscience keeper fully aware of the pulse of the organization. He shared about the

changing external landscape and emphasized on SPEED to deliver as an HR effectiveness

parameter. The common theme emerging in was that HR embraces change, speed to deliver

& display leadership qualities.

The next session was to enable delegates to build skills and perspective for the New Age

HR, this session was moderated by Mr. Rajiv Talwar, Former Head-TM & OD, Uninor

wherein the participants earlier had made a choice among the two tracks HR Analytics &

HR Consulting with business as trusted advisor.

HR Analytics was run under the expert guidance of Shaswat Kumar, Partner, Aon Hewitt,

the focus was how analytics is being/can be extensively used across Organizations focusing

on basic reporting metrics, point of departure analysis, measurement of programs

effectiveness and predictive modeling techniques to look at Return on Investment (ROI) of

initiatives and employee productivity. The ultimate reason to measure talent is to assist

leaders so they can make informed decisions about talent that will improve business

outcomes such as employee satisfaction, customer satisfaction, increased sales, decreased

risk, or increased revenue.

HR Consulting with business as trusted advisor was led by Mr. Anurag Aman, Principal,

Mercer Consulting (India) Ltd. As consultants, HR professionals act as Advisors (trusted)

providing inputs into the critical initiatives of the organization & are involved in the

implementation of strategies. This track provided insights/ skills on consulting focused on

Collaborating with leaders & employees provide HR perspective on business management,

provide innovative HR solutions to address business challenges. Anurag shared behaviors

which can complement brand of HR professionals and also discussed the don’ts.

Both the industry experts evoked high participation and takeaways to implement at the

workplace.

In the Best Practices session sharing Mr. Rajiv Arora, HR leader, Global Operations Shared

Services, Mercer shared Hiring practices model which had focus on people, processes,

partnership & excellence and open to scalability. Talent acquisition process, role of social

media in hiring as key differentiators. Rajiv emphasized conversion mix in hiring & shared

practices for giving a prospective candidate a great experience and as a key to build an

employer brand.

Mr. Faisal Nadeem Saiyed, Director-HR, Expedia in a highly interactive session shared his

perspective on building a strong Organization culture and emphasized the role of leaders as

key for success. Faisal admitted culture building is not easy; it’s not easily measured but

easily felt/experienced by all employees & customer transactions.

Mr. Pawas Anand, Director- HR, American Express shared practices on Performance

Management and emphasized on the new world of work ever-changing employee

expectations. Performance outcomes linked to intrinsic awards in addition to bonus &

increment. Leaders play an instrumental role in coaching to succeed not only on the

current role but prepare you for the next. Pawas also shared a research about organizations

dump Stack Ranking in favor of more frequent and qualitative employee evaluations as a

new age HR practice.

The Challenges & future direction for HR session helped the delegates to reflect on road

ahead Mr. Shaswat Kumar, Partner, Aon Hewitt shared practices on Leveraging Technology

for HR - With the challenges of Scale-ability , speed, value of fairness (uniform experience)

that employee demands and the leader expectations of ensuring that the richness of

content is not lost to the last mile.

Mr. Amit Malik, Director, Aviva Life Insurance discussed latest trends on Social Media and

HR - Social Media has emerged as a powerful business and HR tool. This requires an

in-depth understanding of the key benefits and pitfalls of Social Media and managing these

effectively in the organization’s context. The emphasis was harnessing social media for

effective Human Resource Management and explore selecting appropriate Social Media sites

and formats from the myriad options available and leveraging the same to create value for

the organization and the approaches for measuring the return on investment in Social

Media. The latest trends created a lot of interest in the delegates.

The summit was highly thought provoking and was attended by senior delegates from HR &

Business Heads. The Summit was concluded by Mr. Sunil Omanwar who thanked the gamut

of distinguished speakers from the corporate world for sharing their experience and insights

with the evolving professional fraternity along with the HR Committee duly backed by the

DMA secretariat.

The delegates left with fresh ideas & perspective- a great step towards building HR

capability the efforts will continue in the corporate world. Mr. Rajan Pandhi, Director,

DMA thanked Mr. Sunil Omanwar, Programme Director for all the guidance provided in

Based on the relevence of the topic in the current scenario, DMA has once again organized

a specially designed highly effective and comprehensive Workshop on Sexual Harassment

of Women at Workplace on 21st March 2014 in India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New

Delhi for the benefit of corporate professionals.

Mr. Rajan Pandhi, Director, DMA welcomed the Programme Director Mr G M Saini and the

fellow participants to the workshop. Mr. Pandhi shared that women constitutes about one

half of the global population and though the number of women in workforce has been

rising, there is little or no change in attitudes towards women in the mind-set of the

community. Sexual harassment creates an insecure and hostile work environment, which

discourages women’s participation in the work, thereby adversely affecting their social and

economic empowerment and the goal of inclusive growth. keeping this in view tradition-

bound society, our constitution has made number of safeguards for protecting the right and

status of women and one of such provisions in this direction is bringing the Sexual

Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition And Redressal) Act, 2013

effective from 9th December 2013. The workshop is especially deigned with a view to

apprise the participants of the new law, its features, compliances, penalties for non-

compliance and other fine print of the act.

Mr. G M Saini, having four decades of rich experience of working in government, public and

private sectors at senior levels lead the workshop as programme director. He briefly shared

the holistic presentation on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention,

Prohibition & Redressal) Act, 2013. He briefly shared the constitution of Complaints

Committees (both internal and local), members of the committees and other legal aspects

of the law which was appreciated by all the participants.

Shri V.S. Shukla, Dy. Legal Advisor (SDoP), CBI shared the Consequences of Sexual

Harassment at Workplace. He stressed that Sexual harassment is a form of discrimination

against women and violates the constitutional right to equality. Equality in employment can

be seriously impaired when women are subjected to gender specific violence, such as

sexual harassment at workplace. With more and more women joining workforce, ensuring

an enabling working environment for women through legislation has been held imperative

by the Government. “THE SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF WOMEN AT WORKPLACE (PREVENTION,

PROHIBITION AND REDRESSAL) ACT, 2013” contains provisions to protect every woman from

any act of sexual harassment at workplace. Mr. Shukla also touched upon the obligation of

employer, internal committees and made the session more interactive through illustrious

legal cases.

Ms. Indu Wadhwa, Founder and Principal Consultant, Aspiring People shared her views on

Socio-Psycho-Corporate aspects of Sexual Harassment. She shared that today woman

employees are working in big numbers in most of the organizations. It is employer’s

responsibility to provide safe, clean and healthy working environment to its all employees

and particularly to its women employees. She shared that sexual harassment of women at

workplace is a part of larger issue of abuse of women and violence against women in

society. She shared the historical reasons and causes of harassment, effect of harassment

on women and society, state interventions so far, women’ movements in India, challenges

of the situation and path forward to change the material situation on ground. She summed

up her session with some useful tips to the participants.

In the last session, eminent professionals Mr. Alok Bhasin, Advocate and Mr. H.L. Kumar,

Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India and Chief Editor, Labour Law Reporter shared the

interpretations, implications and applications of legal provision in the matters of Sexual

Harassment of Women at workplace with regard to the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India’s

guidelines in Vishakha case, the new law of 2013. The queries raised by the participants

were answered by the esteemed faculty members.

The workshop was concluded by Mr. Rajan Pandhi’s vote of thanks to Mr. G M Saini for

second successful programme under his leadership and galaxy of speakers for sharing their

rich knowledge on this subject with the participants. Participants also appreciated DMA for

taking the initiative to create awareness in the corporate sector by organizing such

programmes and on the delivery part by the esteemed speakers. At the end of the

programme, certificates were awarded to the participants.

one of ‘The Greatest Corporate Leaders of India Award’ by the World HRD

Congress.

NTPC Book Awards were instituted and the book should make an outstanding contribution

to the understanding of Management principles and practices. Panel of Judges comprised of

Shinghal, CMD, Central Electronics Limited & Past President, DMA; Dr. Aquil Busrai, CEO,

Ms. Alka Sharma, Registrar, University of Delhi. 34 entries were received for the Award. A

meeting of the Panel of Judges for the DMA-NTPC Book Award 2013 was held on March 19,

2014 and has unanimously decided to award the following books:
