CRITERIA & FORMAT• Focus is on migration from z/OS V1.4 to z/OS V1.5

– See z/OS R4 Migration webcast for OS/390 V2.10 to z/OS V1.4 Migration, at http://search390.com/r/0,,12554,00.htm

• Does not include implementation of new function– But they are identified in z/OS V1.5 features – This is to say, the upgrade is a vanilla upgrade where only

changes necessary to accomplish the upgrade are performed

• Reference material is identified– Hyperlinks are active on PowerPoint Slide Show, which can be

downloaded. You may need to use CTRL-ESC to view reference.– This presentation can be downloaded from

http://www.mainframehelp.com/zOS_R5_Migration

• ServerPac install is assumed• For details on migration tasks, see z/OS V1.5 Migration,

z/O V1.4 OR V1.5?• z/OS V1.5 removes support for:

– USS _MAKE_BI=YES is replaced by compiler commands• Built-in make, c89, cc, and c++ commands are provided• Performance benefits never materialized• USS_MAKE_BI is ignored, but elimination will prevent confusion

and possible future errors

• z/OS V1.5 reduces support for:– JOBCAT and STEPCAT

• The default now is that they are disabled, but they can be enabled

• SMS-managed data sets and data sets with UCBs above the 16M line cannot use them today

• Using JOBCAT or STEPCAT can increase the time it takes to process a catalog request

• Use MODIFY CATALOG,ENABLE(JOBSTEPCAT) to enable the use of JOBCAT and STEPCAT

– Put command in COMMNDxx to enable JOBCAT and STEPCAT at IPL

MVS BCP MIGRATION

• Reassemble Standalone Dump via ServerPac job• Reallocate Coupling Facility lock structures if they

use record data– Unless UW92486 is already applied (APAR OW52437)– APAR OW52266 provides coexistence support

• Revise programs with invalid WTO/WTOR parameter lists– Prior to z/OS V1.4 Console Enhancements Feature, they

got a return code of 0– They might not have worked properly despite the 0 return

code– Programs will now incur a D23 abend

• Tailor accounting methods that track WTO and WTOR overhead– Formerly WTO and WTOR processing was asynchronous,

but now it’s part of SVC35 processing & more overhead is recorded

Page 31: Copyright © 2004 Best Customer Solutions, Inc.1 z/OS Release 5 Migration: Is It For You? Jim Schesvold Best Customer Solutions, Inc. jschesvold@mainframehelp.com.

SMP/E V3.2 MIGRATION• Replace method of specifying utilities SMP/E can call

– GIMUTTBL module and GIMDFUT macro are now obsolete– Define utilities in RACF or other security package PROGRAM

general resource class

• Convert to new dialog customization method– Customization options are no longer defined in GIM@UPRM

panel– GIM@PRIM Primary panel now has Option 0 which brings up

panel GIM@PARM, where you can specify customization options

• Use LINK LMODS command instead of CALLLIBS– REPORT CALLLIBS has been removed in SMP/E V3.2

• Upgrade SMP/E zones where old release compatibility is no longer required– UPGRADE command causes upgraded zones to have 3.2

capability– This allows exploitation of new SMP/E V3.2 functionality

OTHER MIGRATION TASKS

• ISPF– Reassemble and relink-edit all SCLM project definitions

using new macros• Not required if PTF UW89007 is installed

• SDSF– Reassemble user exit routines

• Use the z/OS V1.5 version of the SDSF MACLIB

– Reassemble customized ISFPARMS• Required if ISFPARMS has been tailored and is in assembler

macro format• IBM recommendation: convert ISFPARMS to the dynamic

statement format, so assembly will no longer be required.
