Introduction & Objectives

NAS-Wide Simulation Workshop aims to • Review the State-of-the-Art of existing tools/models• Review capabilities suited to NextGen Conops assessment• Identify any gaps in modeling functionality that may need further

developments• Look at the near-term plans for tools (e.g. to see if those gaps are being

addressed)• Identify remaining areas to be considered by tool developers

We will present two of our NAS-Wide modeling capabilities:

• RAMS Plus – Gate to Gate NAS-Wide ATC/ATM/Airport model

• CHILL/SIM-C – System-wide agent-based hybrid modeling platform

All supporting multiple data input sources (ETMS, ACES, ASDI, CTFM, etc.)Explicitly designed to produce extensive outputs for metric generation

RAMS Plus – Completed Studies• Nice airport ground and approach operations

• Reorganization experiments including en-route, transition, approach/departure routes, taxi, and gate/parking modeling elements [500 operations per day].

• Airbus 380 impact Assessment – Nice airport

• China Air Routes Re-organization• Very large scale simulation study comparing current and future [>11000 flights] traffic for several variants of route structures. Included high density terminal areas for 40 major and medium size airports in the region.

• ADS-B Impact/Benefits Assessment • Impact/benefits of the use of ADS-B with reduced en-route separations across the entire US NAS.

• Environmental Concept Benefits Assessment • EU Environmentally Responsible Air Transport (ERAT) modeling for CDA, Steep Approach and Airport CDM processes

•Ultra High Airspace Concept Analysis Study • to evaluate the use of Super-Sectors in the ultra high (FL345+) airspace for FAA (presented at DASC, Salt Lake City, 2004).

•Quadrant (RVSM) Altitudes Concept Analysis Study • to study the effects of introducing standard RVSM and quadrant-based RVSM in the US NAS (FAA report - 2003).
