NORDIC FIRE DIAMONDS BY CRISDIAM

55 million years in the making

Nordic Fire diamonds are excavated from the Diavik Diamond Mine in Canada’s Northwest Territories, where volcanic activity 55 million years ago propelled diamond-bearing ore towards the earth’s surface. Its remote location, 220 km south of the Arctic Circle, is on an island in Lac de Gras which is accessed by a specially constructed ice road over several frozen lakes.

respect for people and wildlife

All operations at the Diavik Diamond Mine are carried out with careful consideration for the area’s wildlife and local indigenous populations, honouring their culture and delivering improved social and economic benefits. A strong sense of corporate social responsibility permeates through all aspects of the business, with indigenous knowledge and values incorporated throughout to ensure the mine has minimum impact on the region’s rugged yet fragile natural environment.

enhancing local communities

With the majority of labour and products used by the Diavik Diamond Mine coming from the local area, the operation has developed considerable employment, training and capacity-building opportunities that benefit the communi-ties whose land yields such precious resources.

award winning safety and sustainability

The Diavik Diamond Mine is strongly committed to the safety and wellbeing of its workforce. A fact recognised through the reward of several John T. Ryan trophies, the industry’s most prestigious safety award. Contribution to sustainable development is continually made through maximizing the resources mined and reducing adverse effects that may result from the mine’s undertakings.

CANADA’S GIFT TO THE WORLD

where nature meets nurture

Diamonds from the Diavik mine are typically characterised by a beautiful crystalline form, lustrous glow and brilliant fire within. They often have an array of surface textures, from being wonderfully smooth to having delicate patterns of arrowhead-like trigons.

Bringing out the best in these natural qualities requires superlative skill. For this reason, the rough stones are sent to the world’s diamond capital, Antwerp in Belgium, where they are entrusted to the city’s finest artisans, Crisdiam, for crafting into individually perfect Nordic Fire diamonds.

the world’s diamond capital

For centuries, Antwerp has sustained itself as the world’s most important trade centre for diamonds. With more than 1,500 diamond companies and four diamond exchanges residing here, eight out of ten of all rough diamonds and half of all polished diamonds pass through this location. Such intensity of expertise results in unparalleled standards. Only the very best can compete in this environment.

unrivalled craftsmanship

Crisdiam was founded in 1967. Through the combination of age-old tradition and tenacious innovation, Crisdiam quickly grew into a pre-eminent source for “fancies” – marquises, pear shapes, ovals, emeralds, hearts, baguettes and princess cuts – while distinguishing itself as the world’s leading manufacturer of trilliants. Continuing to satisfy the desires of devoted customers around the world, the repertoire has since been expanded with the round brilliant cuts of Canadian mined Nordic Fire diamonds.

Today, Crisdiam brings together generations of experience, outstanding skill, superb artistry and the most advanced technology to reveal each individual diamond’s most outstanding qualities.

PERFECTED BY CRISDIAM

the diamantaire’s expertise

Just as an architect envisages every aspect of a building, the diamantaire is an expert at read-ing a diamond’s natural imperfections, planning how to capture the greatest amount of carats and designing the most brilliant cut. Crisdiam’s diamantaires combine fine instinct with their expertise in using state-of-the-art technology to craft exacting instructions for optimising each diamond’s unique brilliance.

cutting and polishing

While the diamantaire’s instructions lay the foundations for cutting and polishing, natural im-perfections revealed throughout the process call for the polisher to adapt their work accordingly, deciding whether to polish these imperfections away or accept their presence in the finished stone. With every decision effecting diamond’s value, the responsibility is only entrusted to those with immense expertise.

The polishing factory used by Crisdiam is man-aged by three generations of the van Genechten family. With over 100 years of experience, this closely knit group of artisans escort every stone through the cutting and polishing processes to exact precision.

authentic and certified

You are assured of your Nordic Fire diamond’s origins at the Diavik Diamond Mine through certification by the world’s leading diamond au-thority, the GIA (Gemological Institute of America). Every Nordic Fire diamond has a unique number that can be traced back through their system.
