Nordic Fire diamonds are excavated from the Diavik Diamond Mine in Canada’s Northwest Territories, where volcanic activity 55 million years ago propelled diamond-bearing ore towards the earth’s surface. Its remote location, 220 km south of the Arctic Circle, is on an island in Lac de Gras which is accessed by a specially constructed ice road over several frozen lakes.

the diamantaire’s expertise

Just as an architect envisages every aspect of a building, the diamantaire is an expert at read-ing a diamond’s natural imperfections, planning how to capture the greatest amount of carats and designing the most brilliant cut. Crisdiam’s diamantaires combine fine instinct with their expertise in using state-of-the-art technology to craft exacting instructions for optimising each diamond’s unique brilliance.

While the diamantaire’s instructions lay the foundations for cutting and polishing, natural im-perfections revealed throughout the process call for the polisher to adapt their work accordingly, deciding whether to polish these imperfections away or accept their presence in the finished stone. With every decision effecting diamond’s value, the responsibility is only entrusted to those with immense expertise.

The polishing factory used by Crisdiam is man-aged by three generations of the van Genechten family. With over 100 years of experience, this closely knit group of artisans escort every stone through the cutting and polishing processes to exact precision.
