Cork Constitution F.C. V Buccaneers R.F.C.
Saturday 6ThJanuary 2018 14.30 PM
On Saturday we welcome Buccaneers President, Tom
Meagher, his commi ee, team and supporters to Temple Hill.
Cons tu on will be encouraged by their bonus point victory
over Garryowen in their last home game when two tries by
hooker Max Abbo guided his side to a 37‐11 victory at a cold
and wet Temple Hill. The 26‐point victory moved Cons tu on
back into the top four ahead of the Christmas break.
The last me the two sides met earlier in the season at Dubar‐
ry Park, Cons tu on narrowly pipped Buccs 24‐19. Although
leading by double scores a er the hour mark Cons tu on had
to survive a last quarter onslaught from Buccs. A series of
drives and mauls by the Buccs pack was rewarded with a pen‐
alty try. However despite pu ng Cons tu on under sus‐
tained pressure Buccs were unable to score again.
Cons tu on will be hoping that a par san and vocal home
support will be a deciding influence as they push to maintain
their top four place.

Cork Con Under 11s Thomond Park 26 December 2017
St. Stephen’s Day 2017 was a special one for twelve very for-
tunate boys from the Cork Con U11s squad as it marked their
debut match in Thomond Park hopefully the first of many
more to come!
On arrival, the boys and their coaches were met by a dedicat-
ed Thomond Park representave and were issued a green
wristband for admission and re-entry to the dressing rooms,
some of which may never be removed. We were taken to a
spacious dressing room under the west stand along with the
compeng team (Ballina-Killaloe from Co. Clare) to change
into club gear, before being led back to a prime posion at
the pitch side on the west terrace.
The boys got a good taste of the atmosphere and excitement
of the build-up to the game as the Munster choir, Hit Machine
drummers and pyrotechnics crew all buzzed about under the
west stand and the Munster and Leinster Squads went
through their warm up rounes.
Playing on a cold but dry day and in front of a near capacity
crowd the Munster vs Leinster game kicked off at 15:15 as a
prelude to the main event! The Con boys didn’t let Munster’s
terrible first half distract them as their excitement grew and
they focused on the task at hand.
With ten minutes to go to half me we were led again to the
changing room and the final preparaons made. The referee
visited to outline the rules - no line outs or scrums given the
me limitaon. The coaches dispensed wise words and en-
couragement, calmed nerves, ed shoelaces, found gum-
shields, and in a flash we were out into the tunnel, lined up
behind the referee and alongside the opposion. The excite-
ment was palpable. The half-me whistle was blown, the
Munster and Leinster teams le the pitch and then lights,
camera, acon and the boys were out in front of the crowd.
Without any delay the match commenced in great fervour
and all the pre-match nerves were immediately channelled
into tenacious tackling by the Cork Con team aer the opposi-
on pped off.

Excellent work at the breakdown by Donal O’Connor and
Frankie Sheahan prevented Ballina Killaloe from making
much progress. However, having been repulsed by deter-
mined Con tackling for several minutes, the breakthrough
came through the middle and they were in for a score.
With me against them, Con re-
started with renewed vigour. Dan-
iel O’Leary made some progress
out wide and Daniel Guiney was
unlucky to be caught on a blindside
break.
Then, aer determined work in a ruck, Frankie Sheahan
burst through the opposion and was off. Try as they might,
the Ballina Killaloe defenders could not catch Frankie as he
picked a confusing but rapid path to the try line. His first try
in Thomond Park and he is on his way to matching his fa-
ther’s total!
The match was over all too quickly but the boys will never
forget the experience. Congratulaons to Cork Con U11s for
rising up to the challenge and they should all be very proud
of their performance.
An excing comeback by Munster in the second half threat-
ened to make this a perfect day but it wasn’t to be and Mun-
ster came off second best 24 – 34 in the end.

Darragh Houston, Hugo McGuire,
Rory Power, Darragh Keary, Donal
O’Connor, Harry Jeffers, Adam

and Frankie Óg Sheahan.
