One mile before Tombstone, there is a steep descent, then a short, very steep uphill entry into Tombstone. The Tombstone Visitor Center is located at the corner of S. 4 th Street and E. Allen Street. Bicycling Laws Always ride in the direction of traffic. Use hand and arm signals when turning or slowing down. All bicycle riders under 18 years of age are required to wear a helmet. At night, a white front headlight and rear reflector on your bike are required by law. Legal Ways to Make a Left Turn Like other vehicles, look over your shoulder, signal, and move into the left turn lane when it’s safe. Go to the far side of the intersection, turn your bike, and cross on the roadway. Go to the far side of the intersection, turn your bike, and then walk your bike in the crosswalk. Bicycling Tips A red rear taillight and brightly colored or reflective clothing is suggested for better night visibility. You may “take the lane” if the lane is not wide enough for both a car and bike. Check behind to make sure it’s safe, signal your intentions, then take the lane by riding one third to one half of the way into the lane. When safe and possible, move to the right to allow a following vehicle to pass. When using a shared path, give verbal alert to pedestrians of your intention to pass and provide at least 5 feet passing distance between you and pedestrians. Arizona’s climate can easily cause dehydration. Make sure you drink plenty of water.
