CASE STUDIES: Working around tight schedules

Background: A multinational company approached us with an itinerary of multiple cities for their business expansion that would require an on-demand charter schedule. They requested for a cost analysis and assistance in determining the best travel solution. DWC had 1 month to submit the proposal.

Solution: DWC evaluated their planned flight patterns and started looking for the suitable aircraft for the project. The team shortlisted 2 of the best aircraft, fit for the project. One of them was the Lineage 1000. After extensive negotiations with the operator, DWC managed to secure a contract based on hourly utilization with Al Jaber Aviation. The client was pleased with the offer as they only had to pay for actual flights flown. The project ran for 2 and a half months. Over this period, DWC managed the aircraft and successfully achieved the longest flight ever for Lineage 1000. The aircraft flew in a record time of, 10 hours and 4 minutes from Beijing China to Al Bateen Executive airport; completed 214 hours in the air; flown 148,720 kms distance; 41 arrivals in 29 unique airports, covering 22 countries. The aircraft crossed 4 times over the Atlantic Ocean and 5 times over the Indian Ocean. Time is money. Flying Private means, you can save precious time from security checks, to on time departure. CASE STUDY: When Time is of the Essence

Background: A tourist had a heart attack while on a holiday in the UAE. The doctors at the local hospital advised that the patient needed to undergo heart surgery. The family decided that it was best to fly the patient back to the UK to carry out the procedure.

Solution: The luxurious 5-star hotel where the patient was holidaying contacted DWC. It is vital that we know where to get the right aircraft with life support equipment and a medical team to look after the patient during the flight due to his critical condition. Our team arranged an aircraft and a medical team to receive the patient from the hospital within 3 hours of the request. While waiting for the clearance from the hospital, our team arranged an ambulance to take the patient from the hospital direct to the aircraft. Our team updated the family of the patient back in the UK with live update of the flight and situation. Whilst airborne, our team had already arranged an ambulance in the UK to receive the patient direct from the airside to the hospital. Our client had a successful surgery and had recovered following the incident.

Solution: It was not just a celebration of their anniversary. Little did she know that there was more to it than just a helicopter ride. When the client came to us with the idea, DWC thought it would be more memorable if he proposed during their flight. The team helped him execute the proposal in the most unconventional way. Background: Multi-leg trips require a lot of planning and coordination, from beginning until the end of the trip. When DWC team received the request from a large financial organization to transport 300 passengers to 3 Countries over a period of 4 days, they knew they had to find the right aircraft that would meet the requirements of the client.

Solution: Our team worked tirelessly for days, coordinating with multiple ground handlers for securing slots and permits to ensure flights run smoothly. An Airbus A330 was the perfect choice for this group size. DWC staff were on call during the 4-day period. With specialized and custom catering, the flight was a huge success. Our client was so impressed with the way our team organized the charter flights in a short amount of time.

Background: A Royal family from UAE wanted to fly with a group of friends to perform Umrah over the weekend. The request came on a Thursday afternoon. Last working day of the week in the Middle East. Flying into Saudi Arabia requires planning and strict compliance to the rules.

Solution: Our team knew securing permits and slots would be a challenge. This did not stop them from delivering a solution. They started working with the operator in order to secure the landing permits and slots. Once the permit was ready, the flight was scheduled, performed and another happy client added to our list.

CASE STUDY: Short notice airlift

Background: Our client wanted a quick solution for their teams that were based in red

zone countries. They knew that the risks are high if an attack were to happen and

needed a contingency plan.

Background: Football is one of the favorite sports’ entertainment in the world. It truly is an international sport, with players attending matches and events all over the world. With their tight schedule for trainings and matches, the football club in Africa contacted us to arrange a charter for their team within 48 hours of their friendly match in Saudi Arabia.

Solutions: Within hours of the request, our charter specialist provided a solution with an aircraft; bespoke catering and on time departure following the schedule of the team.

Background: Another friendly match was set. This time it was in Pakistan. Our client didn’t just want a private jet. He wanted custom branded headrests. For less than 20 seats and no time to spare, we need to find a supplier who can deliver such request.

Solution: Our team pulled out all the strings in order to produce the custom branded headrests in time for the flight. The passenger was none other than celebrity football player Ronaldinho. We received compliments from the client for being able to produce branding and bespoke catering fit for a king.

Those who have been involved in transporting heavy and oversized cargo know that it is extremely complex, challenging and tedious. It is influenced by various factors such as the type of cargo and its volume, the aircraft chosen, the timing of the airlift, airports involved, facilities required, trip length and the legal structure and support to name a few.

CASE STUDY: Multimodal Transport

Background: When an oil and gas client approached us with an urgent requirement to pick up a catalyst for primary reactor to help them make their faulty oil rig operational again, we knew we had to act fast to make sure the parts reach their intended destination as soon as possible.

Solution: An offshore oil rig was inoperable due to multiple problems. To resolve the situation, a vital equipment, particularly a catalyst for primary reactors had to be transported to its location in a short amount of time. Our team sourced a Boeing 777 freighter due to its ability to load the size and weight of the cargo. The catalyst was still in the warehouse in Charles de Gaulle, so our charter team arranged 4 trucks to pick up the reactors from the warehouse and directly loaded them to the aircraft. Upon landing at the destination, the team arranged pre-customs clearances and permits for express pick up, including airside truck access for the consignee which is a critical aspect for on time delivery. The reactors have reached its destination, saving significant costs for our client.

But such a catastrophe is usually followed by other invading problems such as air traffic administration issues, ground handling facilities and finding the most suitable cargo aircraft that is available at the time. Delta World Charter delivered hundreds of tons of medical relief, food and life support in the past years across the world.

CASE STUDIES: Saving Lives in Times of Calamities

Background: A natural disaster or political conflict, can cause loss of life or damage property, and typically leaves some economic damage in its wake, the severity of which depends on the affected population's ability to recover and on the infrastructure available. When such calamities strike, DWC works with various NGO’s to aid the victims thru delivering humanitarian aid at a day’s notice. We received several projects to deliver humanitarian aid. Here’s what our team did.

Solution: Upon receiving the requests, our team contacts our preferred partners for the availability of the aircraft based on the distance and types of goods we were to carry. All these projects were delivered within 48 hours of the request.In 2017, together with United Nations mission, we delivered over 66 tons of high energy biscuits and medicines to the distressed shelters of Somalia using a B727-200 aircraft. In 2018, over 100 tons of aid relief were transported from Dubai to Angola on an IL76 aircaraft that helped more than 11,000 people fleeing Congo due to political conflict. Also in 2018, DWC delivered over 300 metric tons of aid over 5 flights for HM Mohammed VI of Morocco to East Africa using an IL76 aircraft.

The client had very stringent schedule and required the drill bits delivered to its destination within 48 hours. Solution: A Boeing 747 aircraft was provided to the client, following technical instructions for the safe transport of Dangerous Goods by Air. We have successfully delivered 60 tons of the flammable liquids within days of the set timeframe.

Background: A famous broadway musical was on a tour in the Middle East when their logistics team approached us with a mission. To deliver the stage and concert equipment to their next show. As soon as the final show wrapped up, we had 72 hours to deliver cargo to the next destination.

Solution: Our team started sourcing for the aircraft that could take in odd-sized stage equipment. A Boeing 777 aircraft was provided, carrying over 65 tons of equipment from the show. Our team monitored the movement of the equipment from the Convention Centre to the airport. It required strategic planning as there was no room for error nor delay. We went above and beyond the call of duty and arranged pre-customs clearance ahead of landing to the destination which helped save a lot of time. The stage was set, and the show was spectacular as expected.
