Message from our CEO

Every day, 53 Albertans hear the words, “you have cancer.” These are our families, our friends, our

neighbours. The Alberta Cancer Foundation is proud to support these albertans — no matter the type of cancer they have, or where they live in the province. As the ocial fundraising partner

for all 17 Alberta Health Services cancer centres including the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton

and the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary, the Foundation is positioned to make a meaningful

and positive impact on patients and their families.

We mean business. We take a business approach to philanthropy. We see our donors as investors – providing a solid return on their investment by pushing for progress and delivering results for Alberta’s cancer patients, faster.

We invest for impact. We invest in programs and initiatives across the province that will have a direct impact on Albertans facing cancer and provide real-life returns.

We collaborate. We understand that collaboration speeds progress. We bring together donors, patients, health-care providers and researchers to unlock solutions that alone, would be unthinkable.

We would love to collaborate with you, too. Corporate partnerships enable the Foundation to continue to meet the growing demand for many of the programs and initiatives we support, such as the Patient Financial Assistance Program or Patient Navigation Program. Partnerships also help to bolster the crucial research taking place right here at home, including immunotherapy projects, clinical trials and long-term studies that investigate why some people get cancer and others don’t.

A strategic partnership can help boost your employee engagement and demonstrate your brand’s purpose. From fundraising events in your workplace to matching gift programs. From team volunteer activities to high profile sponsorship opportunities — all of our partners are supported by a passionate corporate giving team here at the Foundation who are experts in delivering mutually beneficial partnerships that provide shared value and impact.

Together, we can power progress in cancer detection, treatment and care. Albertans helping Albertans.

- THERESA RADWELL Acting CEO, Alberta Cancer Foundation

About the Alberta Cancer Foundation

The Alberta Cancer Foundation is the funding partner for all 17 Alberta Health Services cancer centres across the province. Our vision is a cancer-free future. Our purpose is to create more moments for Albertans facing cancer by inspiring our community to give to innovation in detection, treatment, and care. We do so by focusing our investments on diagnosing cancer earlier, treating cancer more effectively, improving the quality of life for all Albertans facing cancer and reducing cancer risk.

Our Investments

The Alberta Cancer Foundation supports all Albertans through every stage of their cancer journey no matter where in the province they live or what type of cancer they have.

Cancer Centres Fundraising Partner

Directly supporting the 17 Alberta Health Services cancer centres — including the Cross Cancer Institute and the Tom Baker Cancer Centre — we make a difference in the lives of cancer patients in every community.

Cancer Journey All types, every step

Through this partnership, we are able to make the most significant impact for patients, right at the point of care, during every step of their cancer journey.

Investment Framework Innovative Approach

Some of our investments are more personal — such as providing blanket warmers, or helping patients transition back into their community after treatment — while others include life-saving prevention and screening programs and cutting-edge research.

Recognition and corporate giving packages are available starting at $5,000.

Enterprise Holdings

The Alberta Cancer Foundation is grateful to the dedicated employees of Enterprise Holdings for choosing to spend their time and resources to help Albertans facing cancer. Employees across the province have stepped up to help in volunteer roles for a variety of community events, fundraising initiatives and donor stewardship activities. In addition, Enterprise Holdings Foundation donated $10,000 to the Alberta Cancer Foundation in 2019 bringing their total funds raised to $40,000 over the years of our partnership.

The Alberta Cancer Foundation is proud to be chosen once again as a charity of choice for Enterprise and its employees in 2020. We look forward to working together on a variety of initiatives across the province over the next year, and using the donations received to support Albertans who need it most.

Doull Site Assessments

“Everybody in our organization has been aected by cancer in one way or another, so we wanted to do something long-standing,” says Doull. “We do a lot of work in Alberta, so we felt like this program was the best fit.”

...The Albertans Helping Albertans program isn’t aliated with funding one specific tumour group, but instead, supports all types of cancer in areas of greatest need. This immediately piqued the interest of both (Ryan) Doull and the president of Capstone, Dwight Bulloch, because they wanted to support cancer funding but didn’t want to narrow their focus to one form.

...

Doull Site Assessments and Capstone have committed to donating a portion of proceeds from every job they complete to the program. While DSA and Capstone have chosen this donation route as a corporate partner, other individuals and companies are also able to contribute to the Albertans Helping Albertans initiative. Other donors are free to choose how they would like to raise money for the cause, including hosting fundraising events such as bake sales or charity runs...

“I think this shows that Albertans, both corporately and individually, can contribute with their daily activities without even realizing that it’s making a dierence,” he says. “Then, at the end of the day, you can see that you’ve had a positive eect on thousands of people. That’s something to be proud of.”

Alberta Cancer Foundation Events

The Alberta Cancer Foundation is supported by hundreds of events each year, including the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer, our signature events: Alberta Cancer Foundation Golf Classic and Big Blue Sky Gala (North and South), and over 300 community events and initiatives organized by our generous supporters. Last year, these events and campaigns contributed over $12 million to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

Partnering with one of the Alberta Cancer Foundation events can provide your organization with a customized mix of recognition benefits and engagement opportunities for your employees and stakeholders.

Event Sponsorship - Generate positive exposure in the community, while setting an example of community leadership and inspiring others to follow suit. Help the Foundation and our supporters produce high caliber events while ensuring more funds raised go directly to helping Albertans facing cancer.

Gift and Services in Kind - Events can be costly. Gifts in kind help to ensure more of the dollars raised are directed to those who need it most, Albertans facing cancer. Giving your time and talent to an event in exchange for recognition is just another way that your company can give back to the Alberta Cancer Foundation. You can also donate products or services for auction items and prizing at an event that serves your demographic.

Event Participation - Engage with your employees, clients and stakeholders while showcasing your partnership with the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Our signature and community events are filled with other business leaders in our community, opening up great networking and hosting opportunities for our sponsors, guests and volunteers.

Host your own - Whether you include a fundraising component in an existing event like your annual Holiday party or Stampede breakfast, or create a whole new event to further your brand and stakeholder engagement, the Alberta Cancer Foundation is here to support your eorts and maximize your return. We provide all the tools to ensure your event is a success, including: sta support and attendance, website portals, tax receipting, marketing materials, swag, signage, templates and resources. Paving the WayOur friends at PCL Construction inc. are long-time supporters of the Alberta Cancer Foundation

A LEAP Magazine article by Jennifer Friesen

For more than 30 years, Calgary’s Tom Baker Cancer Centre has been providing excellent care for patients, but as the city grows, the centre has begun to run short on space to meet the needs of the growing population.

Over those same three decades, PCL has supported the Alberta Cancer Foundation as donors, sponsors and participants in events - all in the hopes of helping Albertans facing cancer. Now, the company has been awarded the chance to use its expertise to design and build Calgary’s cancer centre....

As well as helping to improve the lives of cancer patients through the design and construction of the Calgary Cancer Centre, PCL’s offices in Calgary and Edmonton have provided sponsorships, donations, and support to the Alberta Cancer Foundation for the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the Cross Cancer Institute through various events, including Edmonton’s Bust A Move and the Tom Baker Cancer Centre Golf Classic. This year, PCL will be sponsoring the Alberta Cancer Foundation Golf Classic and is part of team “Building Hope” in the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer.

“The odds of getting cancer in your life are now almost one in two,” Toby Hendrie says. “It makes an impact wherever you live. Here in southern Alberta, we want to know that we’re doing our part to give back.”

Alberta Cancer FoundationGolf Classic

In 2016, the longstanding Don LaBerge Memorial Golf Classic joined forces with the Golf for a Cure in memory of Janice E. Crist, to raise $50,000 for Albertans facing cancer.

Together, these tournaments partnered with the Alberta Cancer Foundation to kick off the first annual Alberta Cancer Foundation Golf Classic in 2017. With the help of our supporters and generous donors, over $833,000 in net proceeds have been raised for the Patient Financial Assistance Program and Patient Navigator Program since its inception.

We invite you to join us on August 25, 2020 at the Country Hills Golf Club, as a corporate partner, donor or foursome. Together, we have the power to change lives, one swing at a time.
