EDITORIAL

This publication provides a report on the progress made by Robi towards its contribution in meeting the targets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We believe SDGs provide the broader framework to all the nations for driving their development activities. Being the second largest operator of Bangladesh, we are very much mindful of our role as the leading development partner of our government. Hence, we take our sustainability initiatives very seriously. We hope this newsletter would provide a clear reflection of our commitment in this regard.

You may kindly reach out to the Robi Sustainability team at [email protected]

CONTRIBUTING TO THE SDGs

The SDGs address the world’s development challenges. These goals envisage a collaborative approach to the development work with full participation of the government, the business community, the civil society and the various communities of our society.

Robi, as a responsible corporate entity, feels the urge to respond to this call of duty. As a result, we have already identified six SDGs (mentioned below), where we felt we could contribute the most considering our business profile. Our Sustainability Strategy was reformulated accordingly to provide a clear framework on how we intend to pursue these goals through various sustainability initiatives of the company.

With the help of this call centre, every citizen of Bangladesh can be brought under the coverage of public services. This will eectively reduce their time, cost and hassle of receiving information on public services and remedy to social many problems. Anyone can dial 333 from anywhere and receive information about government oces/ocers, tourist attractions, 64 districts and seek redressal of dierent social problems.

In partnership with Robi Axiata Ltd. Genex Infosys Ltd. (one of the country’s strongest call centre service providers), is providing technical assistance to operate this call centre and this service is available 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.

While inaugurating the service, Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed commented on the potential convenient aspect of the helpline:

“Main objective of Digital Bangladesh was to reach out to the rural people with government services. And to attain the goal, we had introduced digital centres at the union level as well as 3G and 4G networks in the country.”

333 has started its journey with the motto “Government information and services, anytime”. Locally, one can dial 333 and NRBs can dial 09666789333 any time for receiving information on the procedures of receiving public services, contact information of people’s

representatives and government employees, tourist attractions of dierent areas and detailed information about dierent districts.

Apart from that, the citizens can also inform about and complain against dierent social problems, and get response from Deputy Commissioners and Upazila Nirbahi Ocers themselves. Furthermore, using this helpline, they can seek assistance from Deputy Commissioners and Upazila Nirbahi Ocers during disasters.

During the pilot phase, over 600,000 people have received dierent information services till March 2018. To ensure sustainability of the service, a2i has already provided hands-on training on operation-related issues of 333 to one Additional Deputy Commissioner, three Upazila Nirbahi Ocers and one Assistant Commissioner in every district.

Gradually, the services of dierent ministries will be added to this call centre, and the entrepreneurs at over 5,000 digital centres will be engaged so that the people could also receive services from them. In addition, new features, like SMS, IVR, USSD code-based services, live chat and social media will be added.
