Dear Readers, I am glad to present you CSR Annual Report for FY 15-16. This is the seventh edition of CSR report since 2009. I wish to congratulate everyone for successfully accomplishing the second year of CSR working as per the mandated guidelines. Community development programs at TATA Power-DDL are one of the prime focus areas of business. Advent of CSR rules helped it to grow exponentially not just in terms of numbers, but also impact created for the holistic development of marginalized communities. Community development has always been at the core of the Tata

Group ethos of doing business. The belief of equitable growth of every stakeholder, especially community over the top of all is very deeply imbedded in the DNA of Tata Group. At TATA Power-DDL, we have a unique business situation where our community members residing in over 220 Jhuggi Jhopdi clusters/Slums are our customer as well. This unique set up makes upliftment of marginalized communities, improving their quality of life even more important. The perfectly tuned synchronization of the company’s intent of community development and at the same time, business growth creates a win win situation for all concerned stakeholders. The year passed had seen a new dawn of Women Empowerment focused programs where their education, employability & entrepreneurship development aspects have been beautifully designed to generate maximum value. Education program beneficiaries getting financially engaged as company’s ambassador in their respective communities; forming Self Help Groups and getting trained in starting entrepreneurial ventures have been the significant steps taken for Economic value generation with them. These programs have not just given a turnaround in their lives, but also have the impact forwarded to their respective families. The intent and efforts put in for bringing significant change and empowerment in the lives of women is slowly and steadily taking shape of a mass movement. TATA Power-DDL is becoming instrumental in bringing happiness in the lives of lakhs of women so far. Providing clean & potable drinking water to needy communities, especially school going kids, was another star on the shoulder during the last year. RO water plants installed at Govt. Schools have done wonders to the health index of students. Skill generation programs saw a rise of nearly 200% in its quantum with enhanced focus on the beneficiaries making financial worth for themselves & their families. Employee engagement has been another significant achievement for the company. TATA Power-DDL was placed in top 100 companies of Great Places To Work survey among Indian companies. A major contributor to the same has been employee’s involvement in CSR programs. Their selfless contribution towards bringing a change in the lives of marginalized community and care for the environment has brought accolades to the company. Next year ahead will be a year of bringing positive & sustained changes in the quality of life for marginalized communities. I foresee innovative & multi-dimensional approach of delivering CSR for the communities and compared to earlier years be able to generate greater value for them. (Praveer Sinha) CEO & MD, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd.

Tata Power DDL’s Profile Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited [TPDDL] is a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of NCT of Delhi with the majority stake being held by Tata Power (51%). TPDDL distributes electricity in North & North West parts of Delhi and serves a populace of 7 million. The company started operations on July 1, 2002 post the unbundling of the erstwhile Delhi Vidyut Board (DVB). With a registered consumer base of 1.51 million and a peak load of around 1704 MW, the company’s operations span across an area of 510 sq kms.

TPDDL has been the frontrunner in implementing power distribution reforms in the capital city and is acknowledged for its consumer friendly practices. Since privatization, the Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses in TPDDL areas have shown a record decline. AT&C loss is a measure of overall efficiency of the distribution business which is the difference between units input into the system and the units for which the payment is collected. Today, AT&C losses stand at 9.13%, which is an unprecedented reduction of around 82% from an opening loss level of 53% in July 2002.

On the power supply front too, TPDDL areas have shown remarkable improvement. The company has implemented high-tech automated systems for its entire distribution network. Systems such as, SCADA, Geographical Information System [GIS], Outage Management System [OMS], DMS and OTS are the cornerstone of the company’s distribution automation project. To fight the menace of power theft, modern technologies like High Voltage Distribution (HVDS) System and LT Arial Bunch Conductor have been adopted.

TPDDL has to its credit several firsts in Delhi: SCADA controlled Grid Stations, Automatic Meter Reading, GSM based Street Lighting system and SMS based Fault Management System. TPDDL’s Smart Grid initiative with Automated Demand Response (ADR) is another first. To ensure complete transparency, TPDDL has also provided online information on billing and payment to all its 1.51 million consumers. As a step towards captive generation, TPDDL has also established a new 108MW gas based combined cycle power generating facility at Rithala, North Delhi. TPDDL has also added solar generation as a part of sustainable initiatives since 2008. With fifteen (15) Solar Plants installed at its license area the total capacity till FY 2015-16 is 1.76 MW.

TPDDL is also a member of a Global Intelligent Utility Network Coalition (GIUNC) which is working towards accelerating the development of common standards, technology solutions and processes for intelligent networks. TPDDL is the first Indian utility to join the IUN Coalition, which also includes utilities from North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific regions.

TPDDL is the only Utility in the Country to have been empanelled by the Power Finance Corporation, Govt. of India’s nodal implementation agency for its Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Program (R-APDRP), as IT Consultant and SCADA Consultant. TPDDL is also empanelled with the Rural Electrification Corporation as System Consultant/IT and Energy Auditing and is currently providing consultancies to various National and International utilities on IT/ SCADA implementation, e.g. Haryana, Uttar Pradesh etc. TPDDL has been assigned with consultancy service project with newly privatized utility in Nigeria.

TPDDL’s change management experience, distributed leadership system, adoption of the latest technology; robust competence development process and innovative & open work culture are the key strategic boosters which helped in building and sustaining competitive advantage in the changing business scenario.

TPDDL has created several milestones in its journey so far; it is now focused and committed to the road ahead and is exploring new opportunities to replicate its experience of distribution reforms both in India and abroad. It is leveraging its unique learning and skill sets solely and in collaboration with leading utilities and technology providers in the areas of communications & technology, change management, consumer service delivery and business process re-engineering.

A journey which began a decade ago for empowering the consumers in Delhi now holds the potential to transform the distribution sector in India and similarly help utilities across the globe. Today, TPDDL is providing project management and consultancy services to the states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. It is also exploring opportunities in Chhattisgarh and Punjab. The company is providing a technical and management support to a Distribution Company in Nigeria and is also looking for consultancy assignments in Kurdistan, Turkey and Iraq.

TPDDL is sensitive to the aspect of Climate Change and is committed to introduce energy efficient and greener technologies. As a part of the Tata Group, TPDDL carries forward the Group’s ethos of giving back to society. In fact, ‘Reaching out to communities TPDDL operates in’ is an integral part of the company’s mission statement. This drives a wide array of Corporate Social Responsibility efforts of the company. TPDDL’s CSR Policy rests on four main pillars – Employability, Entrepreneurship, Education and Employment.

Apart from this, Tata Power Delhi Distribution also works on various projects to preserve and regenerate the environment. It is a member of the Greening Agency within the Department of Forest & Wildlife, Government of Delhi and is committed to promote tree plantation. TPDDL has been aggressively creating energy conservation awareness though its Energy Club programmes comprising of students from over 190 member schools. More than 2 lakhs students and 10 lakhs people have been sensitized to the issue of climate change and conservation through this initiative.

Tata Power Delhi Distribution has won several accolades for its pioneering efforts in transforming the power distribution scene in its licensed area both at the national and international levels. It has been conferred with the ‘National Award for Meritorious Performance’ thrice by the Ministry of Power, Government of India for outstanding performance in power distribution. It has also won six Asian Power Awards in a row and holds a rare distinction of becoming the first power distribution utility from India to have received the prestigious Edison Award twice, in the international category in 2008 Edison Award for Innovative Implementation of GIS and again in 2009 for Policy Advocacy.

In 2016, TPDDL has been conferred with “Rooftop Solar Enabler of the Year” award at the Indian Rooftop Solar Summit and was recognized with the International Safety Award by the British Safety Council.

Some of the other key recognitions include Best Performing Private Discom Award at Power Line Award, Platts Energy Award, ICC Award for most innovative Discom, Asian Power Awards, IPPAI Award 2013, International Palladium Balanced Scorecard Hall of Fame award, SAP Ace Award ; UPN, USA metering award. It is also the youngest company and the first power utility in India to receive the prestigious CII EXIM Award for ‘strong Commitment to Excel’. It is also the only distribution utility to receive the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certification. TPDDL has been recognized as 2nd best in the “Best in Class – Energy, Oil and Gas Industry by the Great Places to Work, India.

Tata Legacy of Community Development Working towards the betterment of the society in which we operate has always been central to our operating principles and is aptly highlighted in our CSR Policy. In fact, the parent group, i.e. the house of TATA's has been the pioneer in designing, developing and implementing various Social interventions and initiatives, not since the time CSR became popular and in vogue, but since when nobody knew or thought of it!!! Our CSR policy provides corroborate to this claim and aims at imbibing social alignment as a key component of all our business processes and strategy.

‘In a free enterprise, the community is not just another stakeholder in business, but is in fact the very purpose of its Existence’.

Mr. Jamsetji N. Tata; (Founder, Tata Group)

The wealth gathered by Jamsetji Tata and his sons in half a century of industrial pioneering formed, but a minute fraction of the amount by which they enriched the nation. The whole of that wealth is held in trust for the people and used exclusively for their benefit. The cycle is thus complete; what came from

the people has gone back to the people many times over. Every company has a special continuing responsibility towards the people of the area in which it is located and in which its employees and their families live. In every city, town or village, large or small, there is always a need for improvement, for help, for relief, for leadership and for guidance. I suggest that the most significant contribution organized industry can make is by identifying itself with the life and problems of the people of the community to which it belongs and by applying its resources, skills and talents, to the extent that it can reasonably spare them to serve and help them.

Mr. J. R. D. Tata

The philosophy of corporate social responsibility as practiced by Tata Group is a legacy of its founders. The multitude of community initiatives the group has sown and fostered from its earliest days flows from this wellspring voluntary, as opposed to obligatory commitment.

Ratan N. Tata

We will build on the already strong foundations that have been created for engaging with communities. As with any of our businesses, we will leverage our managerial capabilities to ensure we bring innovation to our Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, optimize their effectiveness, and seek to create measurable impact for our Group as a whole.

Cyrus Mistry – Chairman, Tata group

Tata Power DDL Policies

Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy of Tata Power DDL The philosophy of Corporate Social Responsibility as practiced by Tata Group is a legacy of its founders. The multitude of community initiatives the group has sown and fostered from its earliest days flows from this wellspring voluntary, as opposed to obligatory commitment. It is seen to stretch beyond the statutory obligation to comply with legislation and the companies voluntarily taking further steps to improve the quality of life for the local community and society at large. At Tata Power DDL, rich heritage and unmatchable legacy of Tata group for holistic development of underprivileged communities, societies & nation becomes the guiding force for adoption of community development initiatives. There are 200+ listed JJ clusters & resettlement colonies fall in the company’s area of operation. The community outreach programs, working on the lines of triple bottom line approach, aims to serve key communities in a systematic & planned way.

Target Communities 200+ JJ clusters and resettlement colonies falling in Tata Power DDL’s area of operation are of varied sizes with inhabitants ranging from a couple of hundreds to thousands in a cluster. The residents of these JJ clusters are basically migrants who drifted from their native places to Delhi in search of a better living and employment opportunity. These inhabitants are from different communities, culture, ethnicity and creed. Like every migratory community the individuals residing in these clusters face a basic problem of Employment, Health, Hygiene, Education and Infrastructure. These clusters also have a very high representation of SC/ST communities which further emphasizes on the need for inducing various developmental initiatives there. Creating avenues for education, health services, skill generation programs and empowering communities in these clusters has been the primary objectives of community development at TPDDL.

Empowering women for a brighter tomorrow Women Literacy Program: You educate a man; you educate a man. You educate a woman; you educate a generation – Brigham Young. As more and more women become educated, aware & conscious about their role as change agents, we can witness a ripple effect in their lives altogether. The enhanced awareness & education in women has resulted in the improvement of their reproductive health and a sharp dip in infant mortality rates. This has been witnessed across societies & civilizations over centuries that women getting to learn about the knowhow of day to day life have led to systematic & smooth growth of society. Target Beneficiaries: Illiterate women residing in JJ clusters & resettlement colonies. Women residing in these clusters are mostly illiterate. Lack of basic education has put severe roadblocks in their intellectual and economic development. TATA Power-DDL identified this concern as one of the intervention areas and ventured into Women Literacy Program in 2006-07. The intent of the program has been to impart functional literacy so that these women become adept in carrying out their daily tasks such as doing grocery shopping, making transactions at work place, reading bus numbers etc.

These Women Literacy Centers (WLCs) work on an animated module of ‘Computer Based Functional Literacy program (CBFL)’ designed by Tata Consultancy Services which imparts basic knowledge of numerals, alphabets and language in an easy way. An educated woman is identified as the teacher from the community itself and her home serves as the classroom. The literacy module is of six months with classes six days a week and having a duration of 1.5-2 hours. The classes are conducted mostly during the afternoon and evening hours as that is when the women usually gets free from their household chores. Along with imparting functional literacy, these beneficiaries are also given awareness sessions on health & sanitation and safety.

Brand Ambassadors Program: After serving as a hall of knowledge where these women get functional literacy, WLCs have also culminated into Center for Economic Excellence. TATA Power -DDL has roped in WLC beneficiaries & instructors as Brand Ambassadors in their respective communities where they promote and sensitize communities about various other CSR programs like vocational training, free health services through mobile dispensaries, drug de-addiction camps, scholarship distribution program accidental life insurance schemes, etc. Brand Ambassadors have also been roped in for distribution of electricity bills in their respective communities. As of now these brand ambassadors take care of entire bill distribution in JJ clusters & resettlement colonies. Monthly meeting of these 741 Brand Ambassadors is organized for their sensitization and handholding.

Entrepreneurship development through Self Help Groups: Simultaneously focusing on the economic development of women studying at WLCs, they are organized into Self Help Group (SHG) where they pool a fixed sum every month. These SHGs are linked with nationalized banks so that the SHG has a proper bank account in its name where they can deposit their savings and can avail financial assistance later at the stage of maturity. Over 292 SHGs are functioning smoothly engaging 3497 women. TATA Power -DDL has signed agreement for training of 101 SHGs for entrepreneurship development program of which 35 SHGs got trained in FY 15-16. The training program aims to empower women in such a way that they can start their own

entrepreneurship venture. Specialized agencies have been identified to train women in various skills such as chocolate making, soft toys making, interior designing materials, etc. Linkages are developed for the stuffs produced and are sold in the nearby markets.

Education Support Girl Child program Controlled access to career guidance, lack of resources for availing better learning opportunities, ever rising competition standard, costly advanced studies etc. very often leads govt. school students to settle down with limited career options. The situation gets tougher in case of girls. Lack of facilities, guidance and loss of parent’s interest in their higher studies results in dropping out of the formal education system. Target Beneficiaries: Girls studying in standard XIth & XIIth at Govt. schools. TATA Power-DDL has partnered with a professional agency which specializes in handholding & grooming of teenage girl students. Girls studying in standard XIth & XIIth are provided Life Skill training, Personality Development & English Speaking classes and General Awareness through a monthly session in schools by professional counselors. These sessions target to develop & groom girls in the spheres of Positive Thinking, Teamwork, Verbal & Non-verbal communication, Public Speaking, Goal Orientation, Time Management, Conflict Management, Problem Solving, Value & Integrity, Etiquettes & Social norms. Career Counseling is given to standard XIIth girls so that they can decide upon appropriate career options for them. In the first phase of the implementation the program has reached out to 3200 girls from 10 govt. schools.

Tutorial Program The socioeconomic status of the families residing in JJ clusters puts constraints on providing quality education to their wards. These children study in schools where poor infrastructure, the unavailability of good quality teachers and inappropriate evaluation systems leads to a loss of interest in studies which further proves detrimental in their drop out in higher classes. After getting dropped out of the mainstream education system, these teenagers either get trapped by anti-social activities or they start working very early to support their families and aggravate the problem of child labor. This further results in their exploitation at work place as they are underpaid and prone to various addictions. Target Beneficiaries - Children from standard 1st-10th residing in JJ clusters/Resettlement Colonies; SC/ST communities.

The premises of our vocational training centers are developed with provisions to run Tutorial Classes along with other income-generating trainings. These VT centers are located in the heart of the communities, making them easily accessible to children (both school going and dropouts). The school going students from standard 1st-10th are roped in and are given free supplementary education. The kids are not just facilitated with support in their studies but are also groomed in extracurricular activities such as painting, skits, singing, dancing etc.

Economic Value Creation – Enabling to Earn

Vocational Training Programs The working section of the populace residing in the JJ clusters and resettlement colonies is mostly unskilled or semi-skilled. There exists a huge mismatch between their average family size and the family’s income. A family of 6-7 people might have only one bread earner in the house and this leads to unmet nutritional and social needs. Due to limited access to resources, structured educational facilities, and employment, the youth residing in these colonies turn to various anti-social activities such as thefts and drug addiction as they are not able to find other means to fulfill their dreams and aspirations. Target Beneficiaries – Beneficiaries are from underprivileged families residing in the JJ

clusters/resettlement colonies; SC/ST categories; school dropouts. The skill generation programs aim to train the unemployed youth and school dropouts, from JJ clusters & resettlement colonies, in various vocations, thus enabling them to either start their own small ventures or get a gainful employment. This leads to an

enhanced family income and they are now able to afford the basic amenities of life which are needed to lead a happy and healthy life. The vocational training programs are individually catering to beneficiaries from 4-5 clusters in & around the centers. These centers are centrally located in the community, making them easily accessible to the youth, especially women. The trades with high market demand are identified and their acceptances evaluated. Our partner agencies carry out assessment surveys for the selection of courses ensuring the marketability & engagement of passing out beneficiaries. The beneficiaries are trained in vocations such as Computers, Tally, Electrician, Stitching & Tailoring and Beautician. Also, industry based short term courses of Retail Chain and Office Assistant have also commenced which has 100% placement prospects. The courses are certified mostly by Jan Sikshan Sansthan (Ministry of HRD) or similar recognized agencies which carry evaluation exams at the end of these courses and award certificates to the beneficiaries.

The vocations taught at the centers ensure a handsome income to the youth post training. The women oriented courses like beauty culture and stitching & tailoring provide avenues for working from home. The beneficiaries operate from home and even earn fortunes during festive & marriage seasons. Pass-outs from Computers, Tally and Electrician courses got opportunities to work with IBM, Consultancy Firms, District Courts, Accounting firms, various offices and shops, making a decent livelihood. The recently introduced course of Retail Chain & Office Assistant has been providing assured employment to the beneficiaries in brands like West Side, Coffee Day, Fun Cinema etc.

Health Services – Strengthening Communities

Installation of RO Plants in JJ Clusters: Diseases from unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Children are especially vulnerable as their bodies aren’t strong enough to fight diarrhea, dysentery and other illnesses. This problem is further aggravated in the JJ clusters, as there are open sewerages and absence of

proper water supply system thus increasing the chances of water getting infected. Target beneficiaries: Govt. school students & JJ cluster residents. We identified this as a grave concern and as one of the most important basic needs of the community. Partnering with Tata Projects, TATA POWER-DDL has designed an innovative drinking water solution for the community, especially for students studying in government schools.

TATA Power-DDL installed 40 RO water plants at Govt. schools falling within the JJ clusters & resettlement colonies, including 1 plant at JJ cluster and 1 at Delhi Metro station. Everyday more than 1,64,500 individuals get potable drinking water from these RO water plants. The students are encouraged to carry drinking water to their homes as well. The benefit generated is of immense value to the communities as it not just assures a good health index, but at the same time saves the opportunity cost of expenditures made subsequently on medical services.

Sanjeevani – Mobile Health Dispensaries:

Open sewers and drainages, open defecation and garbage piles are some commonplace sights in JJ clusters. Healthcare takes a back seat as these people struggle to feed and clothe themselves with their meager earnings. Due to this incapability of bearing costs to avail quality medical facilities, they prefer quacks for their treatment which further stretches the suffering of the patient and aggravates their problem.

Target Beneficiaries - Residents of JJ clusters & resettlement colony. Sanjeevani, TATA Power-DDL’s mobile dispensary vans, three in number, equipped with a doctor, a pharmacist, bed and medicines each tend to cater to the day to day health issues of the cluster inhabitants. These vans serve all 200+ JJ clusters by way of making daily visits to identify clusters in a monthly cycle. These mobile dispensaries provide quality medicines and consultation to the affected people, which otherwise remains out of their reach as a single visit to a qualified doctor costs them half their monthly salary. Focused awareness sessions are taken up at JJ clusters and VT cum Tutorial centers where Diarrhea, Diabetes, TB, Blood Pressure, Sanitation, Cleanliness, Personal Hygiene etc. are discussed by the doctors. The regular payers of electricity are given free consultation & medicines, both and the individuals who are defaulters or don’t have a metered connection are given free consultation only. This aims to encourage defaulters & unmetered consumers to become legitimate consumers of electricity.

No. of Beneficiaries trained(Cum.) Drug De-addiction Camps: Huge chunks of the village population migrate to Delhi in search of a sustainable living for their families. However, the reality is more often is not in sync with their dreams of earning a decent living and hence they resort to various addictions such as drugs and alcoholism. The earnings of a family get drifted from meeting the basic expenses on food, medicines, electricity and their children’s education. The result of this continuous ignorance of necessary needs creates an environment of dearth and dissatisfaction within the communities which further leads to social unrest. Target Beneficiaries – Residents of JJ clusters and Resettlement colonies having various addictions. To address this alarming situation, TATA Power-DDL, in association with Prajapita Braham Kamari’s, organizes camps for JJ cluster & resettlement colony residents. A central location is selected as the venue and camps are scheduled during evening hours when most of the residents return from their day’s work. The beneficiaries are counseled about the ill effects of various addictions and given free homeopathy medicines. Address of nearest Brahm Kamari’s’ center is also shared so that they can get free medicines afterwards. The camp is followed by another follow up camp within a month. To assess the effectiveness of the campaign, beneficiaries are personally interviewed along with their family members to verify their addiction status. The success rate of de-addiction has been approximately 15 % of the total attendants of the camp.

Viklang Margdarshan Kendra – Handholding differently abled individuals An estimated 10% of the world’s population experiences some form of disability or impairment (WHO Action Plan 2006-2011). There are 2.19 crore people with disabilities in India who constitute 2.13 % of the total population (Census 2001). Such physical inabilities cause hurdles in first getting systematic education and then later in getting gainful employment. Most differently abled individuals are taken as dependents for their entire life. The scenario gets poorer when the individual is from an economically disadvantaged section of society as they cannot afford various medical aids and equipment. Target Beneficiaries – Differently able individuals residing in Delhi & NCR. TATA Power-DDL, in association with Viklang Sahara Samiti, runs Viklang Margdarshan Kendra, wherein information and services for the differently abled is provided and also public advocacy & litigation for them is carried out, especially for those from the needy sections of the society. The center provides counseling services and assistance to these people in obtaining a disability certificate from concerned hospitals, getting an identity card for the differently abled, rail pass, bus pass, scholarships for differently abled students, and their inclusion in the disable pension scheme of MLAs & counselors, financing differently abled individuals for starting their own entrepreneurship ventures at a micro level. The center also operates a free helpline number through which any detail on facilities can be taken from the center.

Accidental Life Insurance Scheme for the residents of JJ clusters/Slums

The social security facilities available are often insufficient to cater the basic needs and necessities of living. The situation gets even worse when the earning member of the family unfortunately passes away. Loss of life is irreplaceable, however, to bring some immediate ease and comfort to the family Tata Power DDL has launched a unique Accidental Life Insurance Scheme for JJ cluster/ Slum residents. The group insurance policy is taken in the name of the person having an electricity connection. The family gets a benefit of Rs. 1 lakh in case the person passes away in any sort of accident. During FY 15-16 Tata Power DDL benefitted 9 such unfortunate families.

Support to Multiple Sclerosis patients

TATA Power-DDL provides logistic support to Multiple Sclerosis Society of India to attend monthly day care camps of MS patients. Pick & drop facility is provided to the patients at their door step so that they can attend their day care camps without any hassle.

Ensuring Environmental Sustainability – Conserving for a greener and healthy future Energy Club: Sensitization of school students on Energy Conservation

In the present scenario the electricity demand is rising all over the world, more so in developing countries. To bridge the gap between demand & supply of power, it is very much required to ensure a judicious practice for electricity consumption at the domestic and commercial level. Considering the limited quantum of fossil fuels available ‘Electricity Saved is Electricity Generated’ becomes the mantra for sustaining the growth & development.

With this thought in mind to bring social and behavioral change in energy usage pattern, TATA Power -DDL laid the foundation stone of the Energy Club with 5 schools as a pilot project in October 2004. The Young Turks of our nation, kids from classes VI-XII have been making the change agent for this much needed societal change. Since the inception of Energy Club, we have disseminated the energy conservation message to lakhs of students, teachers and neighbors from 290 schools(220 Govt. + 70 Public schools). In phase VIII of Energy Club 50 new schools were taken on the membership panel and more than 37,000 students were sensitized throughout the year.

Urja Mela is celebrated every year as a finale event of the Energy Club program. In this mela, students from various schools in our area of operation take part in different competitions to showcase their creativity through painting competition, essay writing, extempore, nukad nataks and science model competition. Employee Volunteering – “Let’s get Engaged”

Somewhere within every human being lies a longing to reach out to others. Volunteerism, the mobilizing of employees for social causes, encourages that and more.

Volunteering at TATA Power-DDL is one of the ways in which employees can contribute to the strong values of the Tata group. Employees use their competencies & interests in community upliftment other than their usual course of work that is fruitful for the enhancement of the employees as well as our beneficiaries as both learn and grow from this experience. Several employee engagement programs such as blood donation camps, sports meet, women’s day celebration, walkathon, awareness rallies, plantation drives, scholarship distribution to SC/ST students etc. were organized during these weeks. TATA Power-DDL has also been awarded in ‘Maximum Participation Category’ of Tata Volunteering Week celebration by Tata group chairman Mr. Cyrus Mistry. TATA Power-DDL has taken up many projects which are entirely employee driven. These activities aim to involve employees and even their family members during working and non-working hours. A total of 7776 volunteering mandays and 27,759 volunteering manhours were contributed by TATA Power-DDL employees during FY 15-16. A brief snapshot of few such programs is as follows:

Blood Donation Camps Blood donation camps are organized regularly in association with Indian Red Cross Society, where employees, their families and consumers contribute for saving lives in distress. Being a corporate donor, TATA Power-DDL employees can avail facility of

blood from the Red Cross blood bank on the prescription of a doctor even if he/she has not donated blood in the camps. TATA Power-DDL has been awarded several times by Indian Red Cross Society for the contribution made.

Knowledge sharing at Vocational Training programs Nominations are received from the employees to be a part of vocational training centers running in different places. A roster of their visit is to VT centers is prepared for volunteers visit. Specific issue based sessions on curriculum of training programs, safety, climate change, energy conservation; basics of electricity generation & distribution etc. are taken by volunteers. This provides an opportunity for employees to interact with our beneficiaries and use their skills, competencies & experiences to engage with them fruitfully.

Warm clothes & book donations for the needy ones As the weather turns cold during the winters, the disadvantaged sections of society struggle to find some warmth for themselves and their young ones. The bone chilling cold waves make the lives of the

street dwellers miserable, especially during the chilly nights. For helping out people, TATA Power-DDL regularly organizes warm clothes collection ‘Hands of Warmth’ wherein employees contribute warm clothes, blankets, shoes, etc. Collection boxes are placed at all major offices and the contribution made is sent to night shelters and families of women literacy centers & vocational training program beneficiaries. Similarly, a book collection drive is carried out at the

end of every academic session wherein employees donate course books of their wards which are further given to kids studying at TATA Power-DDL Tutorial Centers.

Support to Old Age & Orphanages There are nearly 200 kids staying in the SOS home. The mobile dispensary of TATA Power-DDL, equipped with a doctor, a pharmacist and medicines, visits here every month. These are mostly those kids who have crossed their infancy and are beyond the adoptable age. Volunteers pay regular visits to these homes where they donate utilities and logistics needed for the kids. Employees with their teams visit old age homes as well and provide requisite support in kind to the occupants. Employees spend quality time with them, as the old ones reminisce about their youth and tell them stories of their past.

TATA POWER-DDL’s commitment to Affirmative Action In the post-independence era, especially since the 1990s, India has seen a new dawn of growth and development. Albeit the socio-economic reforms penetrating into every nook and corner of the country, the existing caste

system continued to persist. Progressing at a slow pace, the journey of socially disadvantaged sections towards abolishing hundreds of years of discrimination still appears to be a distant dream. Tata Group, founded on the core belief of “giving back to society”, has been an active proponent of building an inclusive and egalitarian society so that the benefits of social and economic growth are more evenly disbursed across all sections of the society. TATA Power-DDL’s Affirmative Action Program began with the signing the Code for Affirmative Action on February, 2007. Since then, TATA Power-DDL has implemented its Affirmative Action program carrying out ground level initiatives in the areas of Education, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Employability catering to the most underprivileged Scheduled Caste and Schedule Tribe communities in its area of operation. Therefore, in its unique Tata way, the organization has developed specific approaches to address their needs & in a systematic and sustained manner.

EDUCATION Through initiatives in Education, TATA Power-DDL is trying to elevate the problem of school dropouts, the number being very high amongst the SC/ST students.

Tata Power DDL’s CSR in Media

Success Stories I am pursuing my final year BMS (Bachelor of Management Studies) from Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Delhi University. When I was in Class-X, I got selected for TPDDL’s Affirmative Action scholarship program at SKV, Rani Bagh. That was the time when my ailing mother was struggling for our family’s bread & butter and schooling expenses of four sisters after we lost our father. I feel blessed for being associated with scholarship program because since then, I never saw my mother worrying about my educational expenses from last six years. During my schooling from Class-X to XII, I was provided with good reference books which helped me in getting outstanding marks in the Board exam and the career counseling sessions provided by TPDDL helped me to select my profession after 12th. TPDDL also provided me Internship Training in L&D (HR) department and I have learnt so many important things about corporate culture which has helped me a lot in meeting my syllabus curriculum. I am indebted to TPDDL management for transforming my life and helping me out for my education to meet goals and pursue my dream.

I was undertaking literacy classes at the women literacy center ran by Tata Power DDL in my colony. With the studies we were told about concept of Self Help Group at our center and how marginalized groups of community can get benefitted from it. We, like minded 15 women, formed our own group and named it Aastha. Monthly meetings are conducted where members collect their monthly savings and deposit in the bank account. Once I needed a loan of ten thousand rupees for opening a home based shop and my group readily provided the amount. My shop is running well today and I am glad that I am able to contribute financially too to my family. It was due to my SHG else I would have to take a loan at very high interest from the market. I am thankful to Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited which has been very helpful in making a meaningful value addition in my and my family’s life.

Suman Self Help Group beneficiary

Due to poor financial conditions my father had to discontinue my studies after I passed standard XIIth. My upbringing never encouraged girls stepping out of the home other than going to school. After leaving studies I had no choice other than sitting at home and doing nothing. Then my neighbor told me about the Brand Ambassador Program ran by TPDDL where they engage women to publicize about their CSR programs within the communities itself and pay an honorarium to them. I somehow managed to convince my family for joining the program as I had to work within my community only. It has been two years now since then. Today, as a Brand Ambassador of TPDDL I feel I am much more confident now than what I used to be earlier. I tell residents about various CSR programs and how they can get benefitted from them. My community recognizes & respects me as TPDDL representative now

and quite often I solve their basic queries about their electricity bills, etc. I wish to thank TPDDL for bringing this change in my life and making me a better person.

I run a small vegetable shop in the Subzi Mandi to help my family financially. Being illiterate making transactions, calculating the amount and maintain records was very difficult for me. Quite often I use to lose money and had disputes with customers due to my inability to calculate. I then learnt that Tata Power DDL was running a literacy program in my neighborhood for illiterate women. The classes were conducted at a time which suited to me without disturbing my work. I learnt alphabets, numerals, basic calculation, etc. in the classes. Today I am good with the calculations and make correct transactions. My customers are also quite satisfied and I now do not have problems in dealing with them. I am thankful to TPDDL from the bottom of my heart for taking the responsibilities to support and uplift the poor section of the society especially through the Women

Literacy Centers. Vimla Women Literacy Center beneficiary

I got associated with scholarship program of TPDDL when i took admission in Electrical Engineering from Delhi Technological University (DTU) in the year 2010. My father was differently abled person and had to get off from his paying job. During my admissions in DTU, one of the brightest engineering institutions of country, my family was finding it very difficult to arrange funds for 4 years engineering course. Under the banner of Affirmative Action program to support SC/ST students I was selected by TPDDL for scholarship on the basis of merit & means. My tuition fee for four years was sponsored by TPDDL and i went on completing my B.Tech. without any hassle. During the campus recruitment I was selected by TPDDL as Engineering Trainee. The best was yet to come when I qualified for Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore for M. Tech in Electrical in 2014. TPDDL decided to support for my M. Tech as well and sponsored course fee at IISc. Today I am in last year of M. Tech course and working hard to go abroad for completing my PhD. I am thankful to TPDDL for its support in giving wings to my dreams. Mohit Affirmative Action beneficiary

I was just 12 years old when my father passed away. My mother started working in a factory to raise me and my 3 other siblings. Being eldest among them I had to leave my studies after intermediate and started looking for working options. I came to about the course through my friend. I joined the 50 days course and was trained in spoken English, personality development, Computers etc. after finishing the course I got placed at West Side stores as executive. Today, I am earning a decent salary and supporting my family financially. I am looking forward to progress in my career so that my siblings don’t get to leave their studies in between like I had to.

Narendra came down to Delhi years ago in search of a better livelihood for himself. He started driving an auto rickshaw on hired basis and supported his family. But, a major portion of his earnings went into his liquor & other substance addictions. He not just got distracted from family matters, but also ignored his material household requirements. He wished to leave his addictions and become a good family person, but never had enough will power to do so. One evening he saw a drug de-addiction camp nearby his home. Upon enquiring he thought to make an attempt for giving up his addictions. He was counseled first and was given homeopathic medicines for the same. With will power & support from his family, he got completely de-addicted. Narendra and his family express their gratitude to Tata Power DDL for organizing camps.

Partnership between Prayas & Tata Power DDL was started in 2012 with a vision to develop skills & impart education to underprivileged families. It has been a great experience throughout the years in generating value & improvising quality of life of marginalized communities. Prayas & Tata Power DDL are jointly working on Solar Micro Grid project to lighten up villages of Bihar. Amod Kanth General Secretary - Prayas TPDDL’s educational support to the needy SC/ST students by providing good reference books, stationery and conducting career counselling sessions really impacts outstanding improvement in their Board exam results and transformation in their lives. The program of Skill Development Training to Girl students really helped to enlighten our students on many different aspects required by them in their walks of life. We are indebted to Tata Power-DDL for installing RO Plant in our School, which directly benefits not only our students but the entire staff as we were facing acute shortage of safe drinking water due to high TDS level which causes various waterborne diseases among students. I express my gratitude to TPDDL for having transformed student’s lives and achievements on educational front.

Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, B(AH) block, Shalimar Bagh Partnership of Dhanpatmal Virmani Education Trust and TPDDL in Women’s Literacy and Empowerment Program has imparted education and empowered the underprivileged illiterate women. In our quest to eradicate illiteracy, we have experienced a fabulous support from Tata Power DDL over a decade. Every passing year brings in the expansion of CSR projects of TPDDL. Each project, like conduction of literacy classes, formation of self-help groups to make them self-dependent, empowering women by employing them as brand ambassador and providing methods to generate extra income by bill distribution or Earn While Learn tasks, providing benefits to school students by installation of R.O. plants, uplifts the underprivileged. I appreciate the values generated by the programs in the community and look forward for continued partnership towards the transformations in the lives of underprivileged.

Energy Club program launched by Tata Power DDL proved to be a boon for students. The project "Urja Mela" was appreciated by students. It was an innovative effort, in which our students sensitized common masses towards energy conservation through the medium of 'Nukad Natak' - 'Urja Bachao'. The nukad natak was very effective to bring awareness among the students as well as people to conserve energy. Your NEST (Neighbourhood Energy Sensitisation Task) which has been assigned to the students as summer project will also be fruitful for students. It will develop cooperation, fraternity, leadership and other qualities in them. Moreover, it will bring awareness among people to conserve energy. Looking forward for some more innovative programs in future.
