Focus of Corporate Sustainability in TCS

In the Tata tradition of “giving back to society”TCS’s focus of CS is on •EDUCATION•HEALTH•ENVIRONMENT

Wherever possible, TCS deploys its IT core competence to address large scale societal problems in the above domains.

Employee Volunteering, through Maitree, is preferred for CS at TCS except for programmes requiring continuous presence.

Corporate Sustainability in TCS

TCS Policy on Corporate Sustainability TCS believes that Corporate Sustainability in the Marketplace, Workplace, Community and Environment is central to its business. Accordingly TCS has identified 5 pillars for CS across the globe. These are Health, Education, Environment, Diversity and Ethical Global Sourcing

“Corporate Sustainability (CS) is integral to value-creation in our businesses through the enhancement of human, natural and social capital complementing their financial growth in order to give the enterprise an enduring future and also help create and serve a larger purpose, at all times. It facilitates accountability to all stakeholders as a systemic practice”

Addressing large scale societal problems through Core Competence

Implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Act in AP• The NREGA solution has gone live in over 657 mandals across 13 districts in

the state. • Using the software 42 lakh job cards have been issued and 1 lakh works worth

625 crores have been processed. • Entire transactions in the villages are available on the APREGS portal, which is

being operated by TCS• Irrespective of location, beneficiaries can browse information about their

villages, work status and wage payments.• By making data available for public scrutiny, the portal facilitates the Right to

Information Act. • A database of 44 lakh families in over 13,000 villages has been created• Ensures error free records and prevents fraudulent wage payments• Six lakh post office accounts opened in AP during the last six months as against seven

lakh accounts opened in the last 55 years• Helping honor the soverign commitment of the government to provide 100 days of

employment to every citizen in a year• Impressed by its success, the Central Government has now decided to replicate this

software in other states

Using technology to enhance

197 June 2008

207 June 2008

In 2000-2001, a group from TCS’ Java Excellence Centre designed the ChildNETCall receiving software and database for the 24-hour helpline run by CHILDLINE, an NGO for children in distress. The 54 centre project is still supported by TCS. Annual volume of calls received stood at 2 million in 2006.

CHILDLINE Using technology to enhance

Childline V.2 now involves a nationwide upscaling of the network with optimal service delivery, cost reduction, enhanced speed & mobile connectivity. TCS will also create a portal and upgrade the website.

CHILDLINE was initiated as an experimental project of TISS in 1996. Unique example of Govt-NGO cooperation.

217 June 2008

Mississippi Dept. of Employment Security (MDES) web site created for registration of unemployed, a disaster recovery plan, and a plan for transfer of calls to other states.

TCSers hailed for their willingness to give up their holiday and work round the clock to build this web site and application in three days.

MDES is now a model for disaster preparedness and disaster recovery.
