Intercounty Electric Cooperative is sponsoring the Tuesday, January 8th, chamber members’ luncheon meeting at the Southwest Baptist University Salem Campus, 501 S Grand. Karen McNew, Manager of Member Services and Development will be speaking on how the co-ops are addressing current energy needs and challenges for the future. Members’ Announcements The 4th of July Parade will be here soon. Parade entry form is attached. “It’s Still a Grand Old Flag” is

this year’s theme – more details soon on other accompanying events and fireworks.

News from Current River State Park – Jim Newberry, Natural Resource Manager for Current River State Park reports the operating schedule for the park this year: It will be open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays starting Friday May 3 through Sunday October 27, 2013. The park will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for day use only. Visitors will be able to picnic, hike, fish in both lakes, operate small non-motorized boats on both lakes. Tours of the old Alton Club Resort will be available. Several buildings will be available for rentals including the BBQ House, Lake House and Gym. Rentals fees are $35.00 for the BBQ and lake houses and $50.00 for the Gym. The park provides some river access to the public but does not have any boat launch facilities. Park staff will also be presenting daytime and evening programs for visitors. Contact the park office at (573) 858-3015 for details.

MoDOT’s "On the Move," - MoDOT is seeking information from Missourians about what they want their

transportation system to look like in the future. The feedback received will help them update their long-range transportation plan, as well as align the demands on MoDOT to improve safety and the economy with priorities set by Missourians. The Department of Rural Sociology at the University of Columbia is looking for people who are the main buyers

Senior Citizen's Trout Fishing Tournament - Senior Citizen's Trout Fishing Tournament - This trout tournament is open to any man or woman 60 years of age or older. Two classes will be designated, fly or bait. Two prizes will be awarded to the winners in each class for heaviest trout and heaviest stringer of trout. Registration will be at the Dorman L. Local History Trivia Night - The Ozark Heritage Project is sponsoring this event to remind people of the physical beauty and cultural wonders of our local Ozarks and to enlist others in tracking down stories that are being lost to posterity as our generations age. There will be ten rounds of ten questions each, all dealing in some manner with the rich heritage of our local area. $100 entry fee per team; teams will consist of no more than eight (8) members.
