ANNUAL VOTIVE CANDLES
Lighting candles is an honored tradition here at Corpus Christi and is really a much welcomed form of prayer. Votive or Vigil lights signify prayer to God or one of the Saints on behalf of someone, an intention, or our prayer for a deceased loved one, or ourselves. The candle keeps vigil, or watch, and continues day and night as a symbol of our ongoing pray-er for the intention or the person.
Many people light a candle every week, but don’t always get around to it for whatever reason. If that someone is you, you may wish to consider participating in the Corpus Christi Annual Votive Candle Program.
A donation of $100 will ensure that a Votive Candle will burn daily in Corpus Christi Church for 52 week to memori-alize your intention. Donations can be made at anytime dur-ing the year at the Rectory office.
VELAS ANUALES VOTIVAS

DIVINE WISDOM The Lord’s message, through Moses, was to “take no revenge and cherish no grudge . . . love your neighbor as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18). We might think, “Great in theory, but not always realistic!”
Then Jesus in today’s Gospel goes even further. Take a slap in the face and then turn the other cheek? Treat enemies the same as friends? Again, we’re tempted to think that those are nice ideals, but not very practical in the “real world.”
Paul echoes Jesus when he tells the Corinthians that what passes for human wisdom is absurdity to God. Divine wisdom casts sunshine on the good and the bad, showers rain on the honest and the dishonest—without distinction. We must examine our wisdom and common sense to see how they compare to the wisdom of God, and make adjustments accordingly. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
