Chapel of Remembrance: Remembering Our Own
November is a time when we as a Catholic community pray for and remember all of our loved ones who have died. As we
enter into this special time of prayer and reflection, a Chapel of Remembrance has been set up in the area south of the
baptismal font. All are invited to place photos of their deceased loved ones in this area during the months of October and
November. Framed photos may be placed on the table and loose photos may be hung on the magnetic wall board. This
collection photos serves as a tangible reminder of the Communion of Saints which binds all
of us, living or deceased, into one Church. The Book of the Dead will also be set up in the
narthex of the church the first week of October. Please take a moment to inscribe the
names of the people who meant so much to you in this life. All those listed will be
remembered during our liturgies in November.

November Liturgy for the Deceased
On Tuesday, November 6th at 6:00 pm join
us for a special liturgy for family and friends
who are deceased. Those who have died this
past year will be especially remembered during
the liturgy. Remember a spouse, a child, a
sibling, parent, grandparent or friend.
November is the traditional month that we
remember all of those who have gone home to
God before us. If there is someone you wish to
remember, please join us. The choir will be
singing during the liturgy.

High School Presentation Day November 2
On Friday, November 2nd from 1:00 to 3:00, Corpus Christi Parish School will have
a High School Presentation Day in the Commons of the Education Center. This will allow parents and
students the opportunity to acquire information about Catholic, private, and
public high school options. The format of the afternoon will consist of representatives from
the high schools speaking to the whole group of parents and students. Following the whole group
presentations, parents and students will have the opportunity to walk to the individual school tables
and ask questions and receive information.
All Corpus Christi parish members with 7
th
and 8
th
grade students are welcome to join us. Please
contact the school office with any questions. We thought this event would give you the opportunity to
receive information about high school options in a timely and convenient manner. Schools represented
in the past have included: Lawrence High School, Free State High School, Bishop Seabury Academy,
St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Hayden High School, St. James Academy, Bishop Miege High School, Maur Hill-Mount
Academy, Bishop Ward high School and Veritas. If you are interested in attending, please check in at the office of the
Educational Center before proceeding to the Commons. We hope you are able to join us for this informative afternoon.
Join parish families and friends on Thanksgiving morning for a 5K run, walk or bike
(and even stroller). This free, very informal gathering has over these past eleven years
become a favorite tradition to begin the day and the holiday season. You will see lots of
parish families and many neighbors of Corpus who have shown up to take part in the fun.
If you have family and friends visiting from out of town, invite them to come and join us
too. Sometimes the weather is chilly - some years it has almost been warm. But each
year everyone has a good time as we bring tin the holidays with joy. Check in is 7:30-
7:50 am; the 5K starts at 8:00 am at the church and finishes right where it begins. All
ages are welcome to attend and take part. This is a perfect way to start Thanksgiving.
More information coming soon - mark your calendars today. Come join in
the fun with neighbors and parishioners.

care is provided for children 3 and younger. For more information, see www.familyformation.net or contact Sister Doris.

into the circle drive. The 1
st
graders at Corpus Christi Parish School, along with
Mrs. Rathbun, Ms. Higgins and many parent volunteers, loaded onto the bus for
their field trip to the Kansas City Zoo. It was a memorable day for everyone! “I
liked touching the stingray and I learned about lions and flamingos”, Thane
Head reported. Ellie Strickland added, “The zoo is fun. But trust me, you DO
NOT want to see the elephants…..they smell. See the other animals instead.” If
you would like to learn more about Corpus Christi Parish School and our fun
and educational field trips, please contact the school office!

The theme for World Mission Sunday 2018 is “Through
Youth To The World: Voices for Mission.” Pope Francis
addresses his message for this year’s celebration to young
people, saying, “In speaking to you, I also address all
Christians who live out in the Church the adventure of their
life as children of God. What leads me to speak to
everyone through this conversation with you is the certainty
that the Christian faith remains ever young when it is open to
the mission that Christ entrusts to us.” This poster has
information that will enable that mission adventure,
providing for a fruitful celebration of World Mission Sunday
in your parish. Digital resources will also be available to
supplement this experience, including “voices from the
Pope’s missions” (through our Missio Bot on Facebook
Messenger), as well as materials for your parish bulletin and
for young people. Learn more at MISSIO.org. WITH

October is the Month of the Rosary and Respect Life Month
The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. This is a great
month to consider this devotion by praying a daily rosary. The rosary is
only one devotion of the Church among many that are kept by different
cultures and nationalities. October is a good time to look at different
devotions and pray for the respect of all life. We need to pray for all
people and begin to see that all of our devotions should be leading us in
prayer for all of God’s children. Please find a devotion that is good for
you and your family to offer your prayer for all those whose lives are in
the balance
Our Holy Father, Francis, on Respect of All Life
“All life has inestimable value even the weakest and most vulnerable, the sick, the old, the unborn and the poor, are
masterpieces of God’s creation, made in his own image, destined to live forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and
respect.”
“Unfortunately, what is thrown away is not only food and dispensable objects, but often human beings themselves, who are
discarded as ‘unnecessary.’ For example, it is frightful even to think there are children, victims of abortion, who will never see
the light of day; children being used as soldiers, abused and killed in armed conflicts; and children being bought and sold in
that terrible form of modern slavery which is human trafficking, which is a crime against humanity.”
“The victims of this [throwaway] culture are precisely the weakest and most fragile human beings — the unborn, the poorest,
the sick and elderly, the seriously handicapped, etc. — who are in danger of being ‘thrown away,’ expelled from a system
that must be efficient at all costs.…It is necessary to raise awareness and form the lay faithful, in whatever state, especially
those engaged in the field of politics, so that they may think in accord with the Gospel and the social doctrine of the church
and act consistently by dialoguing and collaborating with those who, in sincerity and intellectual honesty, share — if not the
faith — at least a similar vision of mankind and society and its ethical consequences.”
“We are called to reach out to those who find themselves in the existential peripheries of our societies and to show
particular solidarity with the most vulnerable of our brothers and sisters: the poor, the disabled, the unborn and the sick,
migrants and refugees, the elderly and the young who lack employment.”
A Very Special Thank You!
We would like express our sincere gratitude to our parish liturgical
commission for all their hard work! This ministry helps plan and coordinate the
liturgical year and handles all church environment and liturgical ministries. The
amount of time and thoughtfulness that goes into planning special liturgies

helps maintain an environment that our parishioners want to be a part of.
